In very cold climates, you will get fog, or worse, ice, on the inside of the car windows. One way to minimize this is to knock as much snow off of your shoes and pants as you can when you get in. If the day is sunny, leave a window open a crack, so when the interior heats up during the day, all that water vapor can escape the car, instead of fogging or freezing in the inside of the windows. Ice on both sides of the window can make you late for work!! Thanks again for the videos, Scotty!

Since I never clean the interior of my windows, I've always had interior fogging issues. I accidentally discovered the AC trick years ago, so I've pretended to be a genius about it. I can't believe it's never occurred to me that dirty windows would attract/hold more condensation. Thank you, Scotty, for educating this numbskull! Think I'll go clean my windows now.
@Frip36 Жыл бұрын
me too. i never understood why, in the winter, on defrost mode, using cold air worked better than warm air. It's cuz like Scotty said, the cold air dried the air/fog. And plus, the hot air wasn't really hot enough until the engine warmed up. I think the best thing to do is leave the windows cracked about a half inch. No harm no foul. (But perhaps no stereo come morning).

Thanks Scotty for the excellent tips. Here in Canada, we have two more tips. If there is snow on your car, some would get in the air intake. When you first start up the car, start with the blower blowing towards the floor for a little while. Otherwise, all that snow and moisture would be blown up onto the windshield. Also, never turn the blower off when you don't need heating or cooling. Keep the blower on the floor and adjust the temperature to dry up the floor mats so there is less humidity to condense on the glass.

Very true Scotty. I live in a country where winters are very cold and my car mechanic advised me to turn the air conditioner at least once a month during the cold winter days. I've noticed it worked pretty well with dehumidifying the front windshield, so I've been doing it for years and not once a month. My car is 21 years old and still the temperature of the air coming out from the vents is 9/10 Celsius during the hot summer months. Just one advice, when you spray whatever product in the car, better do it on a microfiber towel or even a paper towel first and not directly to the object in the car, as in this way you get some droplets on plastic or wood surface and you will need to spend more time after that clean them as well. I use 2 microfiber towels - one to apply the product and the other for the final cleaning.

Years ago, when I was a young man, I traveled the world seeking the meaning of life. At the base of an unnamed mountain range, I found a village of simple people who told me that a wise man lived at the top of the largest mountain. I shielded my eyes from the sun and looked up, only to see the top third of the mountain was hidden behind white, fluffy clouds. I set out with two guides, and the best climbing gear money could buy. Halfway up, my guides turned back, fearful of the conditions. Another week later, I clawed my way over the peak, my clothes torn and ragged. There, I saw a glowing light in the center of a serene plateau. My strength spent, I crawled toward the warm light. To my amazement, it was a man, floating gently above the ground, meditating. I crawled closer and collapsed at his feet, unable to move. "Please share your...knowledge...o' wisest of the wise..." I gasped. He opened his eyes and looked down at me and said, "Rev up your engines!"

I like all your videos. My way to clean my windshield is using the green can of brake parts cleaner. I spray a some on a paper towel (while outside the car) then use that to break up the smoke and nicotine on the inside of the windshield, followed by scrubbing with many more clean dry paper towels. It takes me 4 or more clean ones to remove the loosened tar and smoke. Always checking to be using a clean unused portion of the folded towels. Turning on your headlights in a garage after dark let's me see the streaks and missed spots easily. P.s. don't get any brake cleaner on your dash or any parts other than the glass as it can change the color or sheen because it's such a good degreaser. I also wear latex gloves to keep it off my hands. Don't use this method on tinted side windows because I have had it break down the tint and causes the surface of the tint to degrade after multiple cleanings this way. It stopped all the glare at night and made the windshield look new inside and out. You will be surprised at all the brown gunk you were able to remove.

Check your carpets! The sound dampening felt underneath might be soaking so every time you have warmed the car up, you park it with a steaming tub under your feet. My car had the same problem, removing the felt and twisting it, I got more than half a gallon of water out of it. I now got a green patio carpet in my car, the kind that lets rain through and likewise does not trap condensation, which btw also rusts your floor pans.

I have found, putting the ac on max or recirculate works better in some cases such as when the outside air is high humidity ( like rain). By putting on max, the air is constantly going over the evaporator and getting dried out. I have cleared all glass surfaces pretty quickly, even the rear window. Have never had a carload of people and tried but usually just me in car. Scotty is correct about a car full of people emitting lots of moisture because they do! When by myself though, recirc seems to work better. Perhaps I have just been lucky?

Hey Scotty, Love your channel. Big hint!!!! No ammonia cleaners if you've got window film applied to the insides of your windows. It rots the film badly. So after I got new film applied, I started using an ammonia free cleaner that comes in a spray can. It's good stuff and cuts the dog drool and nose prints off my windows really well.

I’ve used the a/c trick for years. It confused one of my friends; he started putting everything to defrost without the a/c (because he “knew better”.). Ticked me off. I pulled over to put everything right again and explained why. The only difference is, I keep my a/c on recycled air. The condenser drys the air enough to remove/prevent the fog and I’m still not sucking in the fumes of the other vehicles.

I've just come across your channel and I find it outstanding. I have only an average understanding of how things work in a car, but you explain topics so well it's easy to follow and put your suggestions into practice. I've signed up for your channel so i now have about 14,000 videos to catch up on. : ) I look forward to your next posts and wish you a long and interesting career. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. Sincerely, Patrick Kavanagh - Spokane, WA

No I refuse to start smoking again 🤣😆 But you know I really don’t understanD. Also, I am finding that all glass cleaner are not equal. But ammonia vs vinegar which do you think is best? Thanks, martha
