The federal reguations require 40 mpg manufacturer average in 2026. They must go electric sell enough hybrids to keep profitable trucks in production. If manufacturers are forced to only sell trucks that are electric, its likely bankruptcy. Some pickup truck owners will install new crate gasoline motors in their older trucks before they will buy an electric pickup truck that costs $70,000. I am sooo sad. I own a 2000 Toyota 4Runner. It still runs like a charm!! GREAT running condition. However, I've experienced the rust issue that they tend to have. Pot holes were so bad this winter, something came apart underneath and there's secure area to weld it back to so I'm a loss. Just put 2K worth of maintainance work into it less than a month prior! I don't want not new car! I would like to restore my 4runner or would like another older car .. preferably manual transmission! These later model cars can't hold a candle to the older cars. I sure do appreciate these videos.

Scotty, back in the 80s H. Ross Perot was on the Board at GM. He kept complaining how bad the Oldsmobile's were, He bought them locally in Dallas. The other board members said their GM cars were very high quality. After some investigation Ross discovered the executive cars were practically hand built and checked very carefully for defects. Ross said you guys ottta visit your dealers incognito to see what junk we are selling... Of course none of them did and Ross eventually got the hell away from them.

H. Ross Perot became GM's largest stockholder in 1984 when he sold EDS to GM for $2.5 Billion. That was a handsome sum since Perot started the company with $1000 in 1962. He landed a position on the board of directors and forced off in 1985 when GM bought all his shares of GM stock.

Changed synthetic oil every 8000 miles. The one problem with the first 2 were rear end problems. I delivered freight all over the U.S. Beefed up the springs and used heavy duty shocks. Was rated for 1500 lbs but I went over this many times. I think that caused to much torque on the rear end. Had plywood on the floor to put skids in. One skid had to go sideways. Rear cargo doors opened all the way to fork in the skids. comfortable and reliable. I cannot find a new suv or van that can replace an Astro.

It was a northern car and I moved south with it but it's been reliable and a solid truck. GM needs to get back to making their vehicles like they did in late 90's early 2000's. They had solid trucks and sedans back then. Those Vortecs from that era were bulletproof...could easily 200k with minimal issues out of them and if maintained right they are 400k engines.
