To get the steerlers to host a playoff game you need to play to your players' strengths and not the coaches' ego. we had the personnel to do well. Mike chose to be right and not to win. Nothing was elite but playing Bishop not Sutton, pulling wilson during his 5 GAME LOSING STREAK, using Najee on more gap runs and pulls while Jaylin has the more zone runs, Using Mike Williams more than a few times a game as well as MT Washington and Muthe. Justin isn't a HOF but his dynamism and ability to hold the def and make them play 11 on 11 is self evident. Moving Watt around too.

It’s funny how Tomlin always talks about not living his fears yet he’s the most risk adverse coach in the NFL.. It’s so clear to see that his entire game plan is based on playing not to lose vs. playing to win. Which is the definition of living in his fears.

Matt, interesting stats. Part of what you mentioned is having the players to execute starting with quarterback. Plus some creative offensive scheme. Don't see that happening with Tomlin pulling the strings.
@jerryyeager130710 күн бұрын
I agree, turnovers can change the tide of games. Being able to do something with the ball is the next thing. The offense handed the ball over too many times down the stretch. Three down and outs or some first downs and punt. The other teams had long drives and kept the ball away from the Steelers. Clearly this has to be addressed. Even if they play fields, they still need to get another QB, WR and Run Backs. It all starts in the trenches. Thank you Matt for this show

Brady's pre-snap reads were surgical, combined with Steelers tendencies, equaled long days. Pats defensive players, from Vrabel, Bruschii, Van Noy and others have all quietly admitted that they were rarely fooled by Big Ben and the Steelers OCs. They knew what to look for.

How to win in the playoffs? Hire a new head coach. That doesnt live in his fears. That knows x's and o's. That can put players in the best position to win. That knows situational football. That is an offensive minded coach. That can build a competent staff. That has control of the locker room. That isnt their friend but is their coach. That is actually accountable amd just doesnt say it.

I don’t understand why teams don’t take the QB out of the game when they are going to do the rush push. The Steelers could snap the ball to Darnell Washington, for example.

I like the thinking. It's Innovative & it's not having 36 year old, 5'10" Russ fall forward like I would after not playing football since I was 23 😂. I just watched Justin Fields do a 3 rep max with 500 lbs his junior year in college fairly easily. In the Haley days with no Ben, Bell had a walk off 1 yard TD from a modified wildcat look. Anything but the traditional "we're the Steelers & we'll get 1 yard with inside zone under center" look. Their stubbornness drives me insane. Throwing bombs on 3rd/4th & short has worked 5% of the time in the last 2+ years. Absolutely maddening.

Tush push not rush push🤣

Because there is an art to getting snap cleanly and picking the right hole to attack. Washington May fumble and pick wrong hole.
@aaronbrock94809 күн бұрын
@ there is no hole when they’re doing a tush push and sometimes Wilson fumbles. The snap is something which can be practiced and I don’t recall my friends and I having any trouble with it when we were 11.

The "Tush Push" works at a high rate because Jalen Hurts squats 600 lbs...i hate how people casually overlook that 😆
@Justin_Watson2310 күн бұрын
I just watched clips of Justin Fields do a 3 rep max squat with 500lbs fairly easily, Which means his 1 rep max is about 545. That's always been a stupid talking point that announcers repeat bc Hurts is the representative of the modern QB & the clip of him doing it went viral. I was a D3 RB & all of us who played squatted 475+ lbs, & we're scrubs relatively. The Ravens run it with Mark Andrews & you can't find strength numbers for him. If he was Hurts strong, there would be something documenting it. Jayden Daniels runs it & he's unbelievably skinny. Network announcers make my head hurt with the dumb stuff they emphasize/fill a 3 hour live broadcast with. I think it's exactly what Mr. Williamson, a former pro scout emphasized: good coaches make the NFL a copycat league & stubborn ones can't convert 3rd/4th & short.
@pittstoner19749 күн бұрын
It works because ofbthe 2 guys pushing. Not Hurts squatting. If they don’t push, he doesn’t get it 70% of time. It’s a would be 40%

Yes, turnovers make a HUGE difference, but the Offense must be able to score when the Deefense hands them the ball (QB1 matters).

Curious about this; what is the W-L record of teams in the playoffs since 1970 that fall behind 21-0? LOL.
@bradmckinney46598 күн бұрын
I think these turnover stats show much more that beating great QBs is near impossible if you lose turnover battle. It should not be interpreted as “ just play hyper conservative offense and don’t turn the ball over to win”, but this is how the Steelers interpret the turnover situation. Great QBs score points off TO by playing offense.

I’m not even listening to this post. I stopped listening to all things Steelers after their incredible collapse this season. I just clicked on the thumbnail to make this comment. Mike Tomlin and those responsible for keeping him on have turned the once proud Steeler logo into a symbol of football mediocrity. Rather than rebuilding the team, Tomlin is debuilding the team. It’s been happening for years. I’m embarrassed to admit to my Steeler upbringing. It’s truly sad.

I get it…but I don’t. Sometimes it’s as simple as who you play. You wanna go 5-0 to end the season? Play the jets, giants, and jags a few times…don’t make the playoffs, and you go out on a win. Again, I’m not happy. But we Saw This a Year Ago when we got the schedule. Everybody picked us to go less than .500, many to finish last in the North, but to lose to: Philly, KC, Balt, Cincy, and we all would’ve picked Balt at home in playoffs. Am I happy? No! But wake the heck up. With where we came from, we were still playing with house money going into thus schedule. You thought we were better than 4 teams that have been in “Super Bowl contender” conversations for the last few years? You’re delusional.
