Order of the Arrow, After Brotherhood What’s Next?

Now that the ties of Brotherhood are upon you, what’s next?
• Get into your chapter/lodge activity weekends!
o Inductions Weekend - In the South, this is done during the winter. Up North, it may be done in warmer times of the year, including at Summer Camp.
o Spring Conclave - Let’s have fun.
o Service Weekend - Let’s help camp get ready for summer and have fun doing it.
o Fall Fellowship - Let’s have fun.
o Section Conference - A group of lodges in your area having fun.
o NOAC - All the lodges in the nation having fun.
• Work with your Troops/Crew OA Representative.
• Find a place to help out in your chapter.
o Ceremonies Team - Lots of ceremonies to perform. Principals, regalia, etc.
o Drum Team - Keep the beat and feel the spirit. Drummers, Dancers, etc.
o Spirit Team - Always need help with planning upcoming events.
o Elections Team - Helping others to look for their arrow.
o Leadership Team - Lots of positions to fill. Chapter Chief, Assistant CC, Treasurer, Historian, Elingomats, etc.
• Adults brothers can help give leadership to the chapter and lodge teams. Typically if you are not the chapter advisor you're an associate advisor of some capacity.
• Youth brothers in the spirit of the OA should strive to achieve the highest scouting rank.
• Remember Troop/Crew service comes before Chapter or Lodge.
⚠️ Fact Checked: There was no NOAC in 2010 there was a National Jamboree. There was a NOAC in 2009, 2012, 2015, and 2018 which messed up the scheduled “four-year” scheme. The 2020 NOAC was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Certainly there is a little bit of everything in the Order for everyone! I myself have done a majority of positions in the lodge, between inductions, to unit elections, to a current lodge officer and ceremonialist. The only thing left on my bucket list is NOAC! My question is how can more enthusiasm be built for events so that their is growth and the same people don’t show up to every event? Keep up the good work Scouterstan!

Good point. You're right that a lot of people in scouting do the same things over and over again. I think that scout units need to promote the Order of the Arrow events more actively. It is always amazing to me how many Ordeal members never complete Brotherhood. Sometimes they're even afraid to go back and enjoy everything that the Brotherhood has for them. ✔ Chapters can help out by making special patches for returning Ordeal members. ✔ OA Representatives could always have 5 to 10 minutes in every troop meeting to cover what's going on. ✔ Every troop should have an Assistant Scoutmaster that works with the OA representative. Remember; membership is permanent, participation is optional. If a brother chooses not to be active that is their choice and loss. I think that if they knew what they had they would take advantage of it. This year's NOAC was postponed and is still under rescheduling for 2021 or 202?... Let's promote it when it finally is scheduled. I have already reserved a show date next season for NOAC. Thank you for the positive feedback. YIB ⚜

Can scouts and scout leaders join the Oder of the Arrow or organise chapter in the Philippines?

I'm not sure. I believe that Scouts in the Philippines are organized similarly to Scouts of Great Britain. Scouting organized this way have an honored camper organization known as Rover Scout. This is similar to the Order of the Arrow here in the United States. Although, if you are a part of the BSA Far East Council in the Asia South District or associated with Scouting from any US Military Base you will have a local OA lodge and chapter. Either way, you should check with your local scouting authority to find out more options. YIS, ⚜
