Thanks for tuning in guys! This Boise State’s team strength is obviously their Offense, and the should be Heisman winner. I think there’s a lot for Kotelnicki and Co. to work with against this Defense. But we must communicate and our eyes need to be correct on the OL. Minnesota took our lunch money by moving their DL in and the run game, and Boise State is good at movement Here are some extra advanced stats from PFF on Boise State’s Defense, that lead me to believe if we play the well up front, we should win: Boise State’s Defense has a 20% missed tackle rate this season, meaning every 5th tackle they attempt, gets broken. Which is dead last, 134/134 Boise State’s Defense is also 5th in CFB in unblocked pressures. Which tells me they are good at blitzing + playing bad OLs. Do with that what you will If I had to pick my favorite player on their D, id say #90, he’s really solid at DT

Love it , fans complaining about the 1st rd games being lopsided and not exciting are gonna get they want in the quarterfinals, a lot of great games and matchups here , Boise is an interesting team and I like this matchup but obviously on paper PSU is the better team , but that’s where things get interesting for Boise because you already know they are going to be doing everything they can to compensate for that talent-depth gap, if I’m Boise I’m doing everything I can to be aggressive as possible in that 1st half , put up as many points as I possibly could as fast I can , if Boise hangs with them in that 1st half they will have a shot at it. But once that 2 half rolls around you will start to see that talent and depth separation, and that’s why they need to do everything they can in that first half.
@colewarner4954Күн бұрын
Great content. You right that Boise doesn’t wow off tape, but their scheme forces o-lines to have to slide and change protections on the go, which you make seem easier said than done. One miscommunication, and somebody has a free path to the QB. You also don’t really look at coverage, their coverage while sending 6+ guys is still very good. They play their roles, and always seem to drop the guy to cut off hot routes. I imagine in many cases they drop a guy based off formation to cut off the most likely hot routes. So my critique would be underestimating how well they execute their scheme, how that create mistakes on the o-line, and also their ability to cover while still dropping 5+. I would say the main difference with Penn State, is Warren is always the ultimate hot route and if Boise blitzes like they often have, they will have to make some 1 on 1 tackles on Warren if they want to win
@teekay_118 сағат бұрын
_but their scheme forces o-lines to have to slide and change protections on the go_ Yes, in the big 10, they don't have exotic blitzes It's all a big slog, no speed, guys who can be easily pushed around, and frankly no imagination on offense. In fact most of the Big 10 mostly uses a single wing with a halfback getting the ball and running off tackle every play.
@colewarner495418 сағат бұрын
@ It’s all relative brotha. All NFL teams have exotic blitz packages, that doesn’t mean they are all equally effective at running them. My point is basically that Boise’s defense is in many ways a lot like the Vikings defense of college football. may not have any “great” players, but their scheme causes the offense to make lot of “dumb” mistakes. Like, he shows a clip of the UNLV throwing a pick to the hot route on a seam route in their first meeting. Then, in the second game, chastises the QB for not making the same throw against a similar blitz look. My point is, maybe sone credit is deserved to the scheme for him not making that throw the second time.
@teekay_118 сағат бұрын

I get it, Boise State is the big fish in the small pond. Penn state made a living off that until we joined the Big10. The program maturity Penn State has will show through. The upset potential is there but strength of schedule is showing its prominence in the playoffs so far.
@princeseabronco5328Күн бұрын
The strength of schedule thing is SEVERELY overblown. Penn State's schedule WAS NOT significantly harder than Boise State's. You played a bunch of nobody's Out Of Conference. We both played Oregon and both lost. You did play Ohio State but you lost that one too. Your next toughest game was Illinois which is roughly on par with UNLV, who we had to play twice. Your next toughest is Minnesota who you beat by 1 point and then Washington who was beaten by Washington State who we blew out. The rest including USC (who you only beat by 3) were extremely mediocre this year.The strength of schedule argument is a red herring.
@troyjames82722 сағат бұрын
@princeseabronco5328 I disagree. The western conferences are weaker with one exception. Did you play USC or West Virginia. Just because we beat them soundly doesn't diminish our victories. The game will prove I'm right.

Boise's 4 Fiesta Bowls (3-0 with one TBD): 2007 Underdogs by 7 1/2 Boise State 43, Oklahoma 42 2010 Underdogs by 7 Boise State 17, TCU 10 2014 Underdogs by 3 Boise State 38, Arizona 30 2024 Underdogs by 11 TBD Point is fellas, the lead up to this game is looking awful familiar to our other three wins. In each of those games our opponent and the media underestimated us. We are very comfortable and thrive in this environment. We are in fact, used to bringing home the trophy in this environment. This analysis made some good points in the last portion of the video about our defensive secondary. If you exploit our disadvantage here you might win. I break down film and I have the total opposite read than you do. You literally are saying that Dylan Gabriel who is 10x the QB than Drew Allar should be making better decisions? WTF? lol learn the game. Also, the QB for UNLV (Williams) is 10x faster than Drew Allar. Dylan Gabriel on your first Oregon look... CANT DIRT the ball. That would be intentional grounding. Please oh please I am just getting started here. 2nd Oregon play at 5:39 Sheldon Newton takes advantage of numbers and gets by his guy. It's very simple stuff here. Scheme beats talent when talent is confused. I would also like to add Boise State was missing 3 starters for the Oregon Game and they have them back now. One of those players was the green dot on defense by the way. The 3rd play... again Sheldon Newton beats the shit out of his guy and shoves him into the Quarterback which forces Gabriel to stop looking down field and provides time for the sack from the outside. What's funny about the sacks you picked, is the fact that Boise literally didn't require any special moves. They simply just get home. Ahmed Hassanein is a killer in the trenches.

Good take on the film. We do, BSU, have challenges. We tend to live and die by the blitz. I think we libe up well, but i think penn will start to pull away, unless we pkay, perfectly, no mistakes. Put the ball down and we will see what happens. My guess a close win by BSU or a blow out by Penn.

I keep seeing Boise fans saying that their pass rush is going to wreck Penn state. SMU literally has the 3rd most sacks of any team in the country, led the country in QB pressures, and had a top 10 rush defense. SMU objectively has a better pass rush and rushing defense than Boise. Penn state still ran the ball at will on SMU. The weather played directly into SMU’s defense advantage with their poor pass defense not being as big a problem with the poor passing conditions that existed in beaver stadium.

How many sacks did Oregon's other opponents--you know the ones with "stellar defenses" have? It's no a big deal when Oregon State, UCLA and Michigan State sacked Gabriel ZERO times this season as none of them are bowl eligible. However, the following teams who will be playing in bowl games all struggled to put pressure on Gabriel: Michigan, last season's CFP Champion, sacked Gabriel ZERO times. Washington, who also made the CFP in 2023, likewise had ZERO sacks. #20 Illinois had ONE sack. #8 Ohio State, who has the potential of making it to the CFP Championship, had ZERO sacks. #6 Penn State, who some claim could win is all this season, had ONE sack.
