Well, the hand might actually be the researcher's. The log has the researcher try to interview the hand with no success, then he goes home to his wife and daughter, with various creepy spirals being noted around the place. He also doesn't notice that there's something in the back, which reveals itself when he goes to bed, switching to first person as "my limbs twist like a spiral and my head tolls like a pendulum." The speaker then bludgeons the man to death, cuts off his hand, then heads out to its backyard where it finds a nest of ants with white coated drones and faceless queens hard at work expanding their nest, and buries the hand for them to find as a gift. Once they do, the researcher approaches the hand to interview it.

If I was doctor Hendric, I would tattoo some small but noticeable symbols on each of my hands. Like a circle around one finger on one hand and something like "&" symbol between thumb and wrist on the other. Nothing around the wrist, also no longer text or mystical signs. I would be curious if the same appears on the scp 5688 or if all ink disappears from my own hand/hands. If not, it's more probable it is a different version, not future me.
