This one brings up an interesting question within the SCP universe - in cases like this, what exactly is it that separates an Anomaly from just a fucked up undiscovered species?
@jaredstar10 ай бұрын
I can't remember it was Dr Bob or one of the other Scpv video makers but The general idea is the group concept of normality. Or rather the collective understanding of normality. It's not normal for jellyfish to fly in the air, it's not normal for them to grow to such a massive size, etc. So the SCP foundation, the GOC the horizon initiative and other such groups do their best to through their own methods hideaway or destroy anomalous things (for good or ill)

Killer Jellyfish? D20 modern, the modern variant of 3.5 D&D, had a creature in the Menace Manual (Monster Manual) called the Acid Rainer that is essentially a flying gargantuan killer jelly fish. Is this thing really anomalous? It just comes across as a newly discovered predatory species. This feels like something you don't need to 'contain' and keep secret. It's a scientific curiosity that could easily be known of by the public.
@KitoAkari161210 ай бұрын
They are classified as anomalous because: 1. Their habitat is much different from similar counterparts. The normal man'o'wars usually live in the ocean, while this one lives in rainforests. 2. Their hunting behaviour is way too advanced for an anomalous animal. Perfect camouflage and toxin is one thing, it can even use the corpses of its victims to lure other potential victims, which isn't normal for other kinds of animals. 3. They die to a pig. A literal pig.
@eyokirvideos740010 ай бұрын
@@KitoAkari1612 I don't deny its dangerous, but so are a lot of animals. Is anything thats just different labelled anomalous by the SCP foundation?
@KitoAkari161210 ай бұрын
@@eyokirvideos7400 I think it's mainly the way they reproduce or hunt that makes them anomalous. Like for this one, the way these things hunt is definitely way too advanced for an average animal in the wild. Camouflage and neurotoxin are commonly seen, but not using the victim's corpse to trick other things to come.
@eyokirvideos740010 ай бұрын
@@KitoAkari1612 There are plenty of animals that use the remains of animals as tools for various tasks. Ourselves amongst them. Is this thing incredibly dangerous? Yes. But frankly it just comes across to me an undiscovered animal that could just as easily be managed by scientists who study them without the need for the SCP foundation to get involved, outsides of a need to conceal anything out of the ordinary
@KitoAkari161210 ай бұрын
@@eyokirvideos7400 Remember that a lot of the things are considered "anomalous for humans", so "ourselves" isn't a valid example. Also talking about the animals that using the corpses of their victims for other purposes, the only things I can think of are the zombie fungi, worms and such. However, they usually do that within the insect kingdom only, not something you would expect to target almost all kinds of faunas, humans included. In addition, the anomalous classification is usually used when the extent of their "anomalies" are yet to understand within the boundary of conventional science that humans are used to. As soon as they are explainable via conventional scientific methods, they are classified as "explained" and thus become non-anomalous.
