I imagine that Eric was a regular kid, and he had an anomalous family member who made just weirdass shit and toys for him to play with. Once he grew up, these toys and gadgets simply were no longer needed, so they were abandoned or given away or sold like any other unnecessary, since the only reason they were made was no longer using them. I dunno, just knowing how wholesome Eric's Toy was before it became violent makes me feel that whoever these items were initially made for truly was just a good, regular kid who had some kinda magical aunt or something.

I’m surprised you didn’t notice the running theme of Eric having a personal relationship with these items. The toy that specifically called out to him after being injured, the calculator, a vital tool for any school child, with his name on it, and a refrigerator with a lunch bag labeled for him along with a drawing he more than likely made himself on the door. So I doubt that there are more anomalous Eric fridges, as the fridge seems to be specifically tied to this one little boy, and I doubt that the nephew was Eric as he sounded like he was at least a teenager and the aunt never mentioned if he made the drawing. Either way, more than likely either Eric was anomalous, or at least one of his parents were, and their anomalous properties were imparted on the things connected to Eric’s apparently quite happy childhood. I wouldn’t be surprised if the self filling soup bowl used to belong to Eric or his family as well, due to its connection to themes of childhood and familial relationships.
