Excellent video. You've captured the essence of one of the UK's most scenic railways well.

Im so glad someone has captured this era onto film. Fantastic, Had a FOS for a week easter 89, managed to enjoy the final days of loco hauled workings due to the bridge collapse at Inverness. The Scottish higlands are a magical place.

Interesting mix of heritage carriages at 3:50. Having just been in Kyle, the station area seems more built up now, with a heavy focus on industrial seafood production.

Lovely little film. And great to see the 37's again Having toured the Highlands pretty extensively, I can see you must have sacrificed a few days to find such excellent conditions - glad you did

Do you have a website or anything? I grew up in Kyle and was 8 or 9 when you filmed these clips. I'd love to buy a copy of your films from Kyle back in the day before we got those daft wee Sprinter trains in the late 80s/early 90s. Kyle's changed so much and I lived just along from the station - I used to love hearing the locos start up before the early run to Inverness. Thanks for sharing this - really great video.

1:55 Is that an inspection saloon on the end of that train? From the side it looks like it is. Edit: 3:12 Never mind!

Well spotted! The inspection saloon was being used as an observation car - with some extra shunting involved at each end. That weekend was amazing weather-wise, those who paid the supplement would have had full value for money.

Funny enough, I had spent days looking for videos of the saloons in the highlands, I've bought one for my model railway and wasn't sure exactly how they were used, and found nothing helpful. Then this video popped up and there we go. At least now I can say that at least once the saloons were used on a full train.

Was this the Far North Line? I'd love to travel on that entire line in the future 😍. I'd be delighted with a Class 158 as well if possible 😀. I've "done" this line on Google Earth back in around 2010. Stunning scenery! I've never been to Scotland.

This is the line to Kyle of Lochalsh which diverges from the Far North line at Dingwall. Both are former Highland Railway lines and both are beautiful in their own right.
