I remember 5-year-old me thinking there was some sort of magical high-tech system that was "reading" the tiles as they were dropped in the slots. Although someone could probably rig up some sort of RFID system to do that nowadays, the easy approach is still the same as it always was: a backstage graphics op with a keyboard.

@"Secret Area Vault", yes, way back then, on Friday, September 6, 1985, this "Scrabble" game show had Mr. Charles "Chuck" H. Woolery as its former host just as his previous studio announcer there was late Mr. Jay Stewart [though actually, it turns out that his real last name was Fix while his middle name was Stewart]!

Chris' first win was posted here and aired originally on 9/2/1985, and Chuck says "see you Monday", this is from 9/6/85. Also, since this page also just posted the USA update from 4/16/93, and Chris' first episode appears to have been rerun on USA on 4/5 or 4/12/93, the USA airdate for this is probably 4/16/93. Chris Nadler was said to have won $24,500, as per the September 1986 issue of TV Game Show magazine.

Jay was still at the mic when Don Minyard was going for his 10th and final win on the September 26, 1985 episode. (Don played on September 17-20; 23-26. Info per The Gadsden Times.)
