Whole bunch of scrap metal to haul in today, in not one but TWO truckloads of trash! Decided to cash out everything, starting with the heap that was already loaded and after HOURS of cutting wires and other sorting, loaded all the nonferrous to see how much we'd collected. It was pretty good!
Wire stripper I use: amzn.to/3jrO2iS
The motorized stripper: amzn.to/3y0JMuQ
The wire cutters I like: amzn.to/2T6j3OW
This is the cheaper version: amzn.to/2SwrYsB
And here are those grips I recommend: amzn.to/2QCJmYl
(If you make a purchase on amazon through the links above, a small amount of what amazon makes on the sale is shared with me. It's a great way to help support my channel, at no additional cost to you. Even if you buy something other than my tool recommendations!)

Hi, Thub I am 12 years old and have never been to a scrapyard as I live in a small town and I have been collecting for ages and my dad is going to take me to a yard in the next few weeks. Listening to all the metal talk is like learning a new language so I cant wait for the new series coming soon. Thanks

I like to hear the young ones out there scrapping. I stared in high school and 12 years latter I finally got a 16foot dump trailer so I can do more tin and short iron. I have a fellow scraper at work that breaks down his material further for the brass and copper, so I give him the copper I come across (not much compared to what he finds) for leads that may be to big for him. So I’d say team up if you can, it does make it easier in my opinion.

My first time in, I was waiting to be weighed out and got to watch the big grabber haul car bodies out of the pile, load them into an open-top trailer, then use the grabber like a fist and PUNCH THE METAL CARCASSES DOWN so they fit tighter. It was awesome, had the guy behind me honking at me ‘cause I wasn’t paying attention in line. 🤣

Dude, all your content rocks. As you know I've been scrapping for years. I've been watching your videos for as long as I remember. Going back to basics for the newbies sometimes is a good thing. I'm so jealous of your garage man, but one thing I might suggest, get yourself to home depot or whatever DIY place you have there, and get some heavy duty shelving? Or make some with 2x4s ? You have buckets on the floor, the lighter ones (ally etc) can go on the top shelf blah blah, utilise that fantastic space that you have ? It'll help you clear the floor and have more space to work? My shed is only 15m2, and I've got shelves all around, it helps.!!!

Awesome! Great video! I tested out separating the brass a few years ago, and learned the same as you; they put it all in the same category. I do break the blades off of cord plugs, though, as they can pad out the brass bin. I think you got a good deal on those transformers. Many of them were likely the electronic kind; they have a lot less copper than the traditional transformers. You got $.10 a pound for a bunch of plastic and scrap circuit boards.

So there's this series of books by Lloyd Alexander called the "Chronicles of Prydain", in one book called Taran Wanderer there is this character called Llonio, he a lucky man, he lives by a river and sets nets in the river, whatever he catches he uses or repurposes, he also wanders around feeding his family by what he catches, I in my wanderings of gatherings for salvage/repurpose/sale have a lot of those characteristics, I read this series of books to my kids and happily imagine myself like Llonio feeding my family off my findings/nets I put out and my friend so do you! The Chronicles of Prydain is a retelling of Welsh mythology so these characters have historical backgrounds. You wander around gathering things you luckily find (your luck is manufactured by your actions), you feed your family off your findings... Well done....

#2 was 80 cents a pound until a couple weeks ago, when copper started going up- now it is 77 cents a pound! I don’t understand… anyway, that was a nice haul, I have been looking at long bed Ford Rangers and Mazda B3- and 4000s, just for a scrapping truck. There is no way I could get that much stuff in Tommi! Unless it was all brake discs or something, she is loaded out at about 600 pounds with normal materials. Plus I am scratching up her interior, no matter how hard I try not to. Also, I am now throwing all my brass together as well, I don’t think any yard will complain about extra copper in there! Thanks for doing the thing, Thub.
@thubprint
@thubprint 3 жыл бұрын
Rangers are a good truck for sure! They’re no Toyota, but you can get them pretty cheap if they’ve got a few miles on them, especially if you find the smaller engine without the 4x4. I like having the 4L and the 4x4 but I spend a lot on gas and I don’t really get anything out of it, other than the twice a year I switch it over to get through a pile of snow. Gotta keep an eye on the front bearings too but they’re easy to change

@@thubprint Yeah, I live in the southern USA, the only reason I need 4WD is if I am going down a muddy trail, something I wouldn't do in a scrap truck. *LOL* The 4.0 doesn't seem to have much but HP over the 3.0, and again, for my purposes, the 3.0 would be fine. It's a simpler engine, so if something breaks, it would be easier to repair. The 4-cylinder is disappointing as it gets maybe 2 MPG better on the highway but no difference in-town, and it's only got 110 HP at best. I'll take the 140 from the 3.0 all day. OC, I really should be looking at a full-size if I want the most room in the bed. S&P Man makes a good point, his 1500 full-size seems to be twice the footprint of his Colorado.

Hi. I always find your videos entertaining and informative at the same time. Do you feel it's worth the time to try and get the copper out of the yellow brass and if so, how do I go about doing it? Thanks for any help you can give me.
@vincedibona4687
@vincedibona4687 3 жыл бұрын
If the copper is flush in a plumbing fitting or something like that, probably not worth it. Just put it all in, no scrapyard is going to complain about extra copper in the brass.

Yeah, what Vince said. If you’ve got a huge pile of bits then maybe? The price of brass is pretty good though so in my mind it isn’t worth the time and the cutting wheels and all the copper and brass that turns to dust in the process. I’ll remove anything of reasonable size of course but if it’s just an inch of pipe stuck on the end? Nah, in with the brass.
