Hi there everyone how are you all? Great I'm hoping. Now I get a lot of people commenting to do something more than just blocks so this week I thought I would sandcast something I saw on thingyverse, I have no idea what it is it just looked interesting so I thought I would Print it and cast it with some High-grade aluminum swarf that a subscriber sent me . A lot of people have Sent me items to be melted so bear with me and I’ll get through them all eventually. Also In today’s video I sandcast me up a nice sand Rammer to use in future videos. HOW TO MIRROR FINISH A BAR
I start with an 80 grit flap disc on my angle grinder then I use my drill with 50 mm round sanding discs . I start with 150 grit then go through the following Grits 240-400-800 Then once I get to the following Grits I use a small squirt of WD-40 1200-1500-2000-2500-3000. The WD40 helps to lubricate the discs and stops the sanding disk binding up with the metal powder . Then after that I use my buffer wheel on my bench grinder to get a perfect mirrored finish on it??????.

i cant speak for everyone, but i still say its pretty entertaining to see a sandcast mold made. its part of the melting and casting process, so it should be included. is anyone else with me on this?

Seeing a mold made in this fast forward way is fine. I didn't do much sand casting, but I remember mold making as arduous, frustrating (it's so easy to mess up, and you have to start over), and tedious. Making a mold easily takes hours, and the things you make molds for tend to be intricate, and need a lot of work anyway. The guy who ran the workshop where I went hated sand casting, do that didn't help Anyway, watching mold making in real time would make these videos too long, IMO

Oh yeah, that head print is absolutely something H.R. Giger-esque. Everything he did was always very 'biomechanical'; the Alien / Xenomorph, the covers of Emerson, Lake, and Palmer's EP "Brain Salad Surgery" (titled "Work Nr. 217 - ELP I" and "Work Nr. 217 - ELP II" respectively) are great examples of that, and the Thingiverse print heavily reminds me of the same type of "biological mechanical" deal.

I used a old fire extinguisher cut the top off to try and melt aluminum in my coal steel forge when I was like 16.. melted the aluminum then the steel part.. hadn't tried since, but thinking about making a diy furnace soon to melt aluminum

I think there is a way to dip a mold which is 3d printed into an acid of some sort, which will melt the edges to make it smoother if done right... Looks A lot less liney...
