Do you know yards take rope lighting and if so what would it go as?
@iScrapApp Жыл бұрын
They would go similar to a Christmas light but all bulbs would have to be removed.

I’ve got a lot of Christmas light wires that I’m presently stripping. Aside from gently putting them through pliers to stretch out the insulation, is there a quicker and better way to soften the coating to make it easier to get to the copper wiring?
@iScrapApp Жыл бұрын
We rarely if ever suggest stripping the Christmas lights because the copper recovery is small and the copper strands are too thin.

Wow talk about perfect timing. I just picked up 30 strings of lights today. Thanks for the info.

I just scrapped out a bunch of Christmas lights. I already knew what you said here, but it's kinda therapeutic for me. I don't think I'll loose money, just won't get paid for my time. What do you think?
@iScrapApp2 жыл бұрын
That's ok too! If you don't mind spending the time, that is your own preference. But for those "time savers" out there, it's good to keep in mind.

More light is always helpful. Quick note, dollar tree sells led flashlights n dollar general has 8 pk AAA batteries for a buck, I get a few months out of the batteries

Good hacker tip for costs. Thank you!

now would you loose money by cutting the bulbs and selling the wire as midgrade copper wire as that's what my yard will pay for bulbs removed? time is no issue
@brianspencer69552 жыл бұрын
only way to figure that out is by calculating what you will get for a sample as-is and what that same sample will get you taken apart. call and ask the yards
@joshuamorris90502 жыл бұрын
That’s what I do it goes from 10cent a pound to over a dollar my guess would be no loss
@davegdm9542 жыл бұрын
@@brianspencer6955 yea that was my idea. but I wasn't sure if other people had done any useable research.
@iScrapApp2 жыл бұрын
It would really depend on how your yard grades it. Some scrap yards don't grade Christmas lights as mid-grade.
@davegdm9542 жыл бұрын
@@iScrapApp I know they do because I've sold it before multiple times without the bulbs as midgrade or #2 insulted which ever term you use. I just wasn't sure is anyone did the research on what weight percentage you loose. one yard I talked to only takes Christmas lights as 5 cents a pound they wouldn't even take it as a number 3
@wolfmanjackal14272 жыл бұрын
I'd be happy if capitol city recycling in Sacramento California would pay for them. And that they'd pay you different prices for the copper wire. Specially after they tell you to sort the categories only to dump them into one bucket, weigh it and pay the lower price. If I had transport of me own I'd go elsewhere and report them for every time something was done that raised issues with me or p others. I used to be able to trust them.
@iScrapApp2 жыл бұрын
At least you are checking and not accepting their changes.
@moosekustoms25462 жыл бұрын
Genuinely wish people in my area would use the iscrap app, but they all see it as bad thinkin they will make more if no one knows the prices of there yard. Yet the more the scrap yard receives the more they sell and the more they sell the higher there buyer will pay and that means the more we make
@iScrapApp2 жыл бұрын
You can always recommend to friends who also scrap. And if your scrap yard isn't listed, shoot us an email at info@iscrapappc.com and we can add it so you can report prices!

If I do not clip all the lights off they won't buy them.

Some yards are like that.

All the yards around me in the northeast have a big sign outside "WE DO NOT ACCEPT CHRISTMAS LIGHTS".

Just clip the plastic off

REALLY interesting...where are you in the Northeast? Our scrap yard Rockaway Recycling is located in New Jersey and we accept them!
