as a swiss person, your love for raclette hits close to home. its typically a winter food here however its become more popular throughout the year aswell. its most common way of eating it is sadly not from the cheese directly, but rather in small pans with individual servings that you melt in a raclette oven and then scrape over potatoes etc. theres tons of variety with different cheeses too which makes it a super unique meal
@colin_g5 ай бұрын

As a Chinese student struggling in the US, I can tell you there is a universal "struggle meal" for all Chinese. That is the classical fried egg with tomato. Scramble your egg, add chopped tomato, salt, and whatever spice you have, and put the mixture on some rice or plain noodles. It is only half a step better than instant noodles but is considered a proper meal, unlike instant noodles.

French here: our struggle meal when I was a child consisted of *boiled potatoes* served in their skins. The toppings offered where olive oil, butter, crème fraîche and salt. It was one of my favorite meals. If there were leftovers my mom would mash them and use them the day after to make a *potato and cheese soufflé*, that wouldn't deflate much thanks to the starch. Looked fancy but was quite simple and cheap: fold your egg yolks and grated cheese in the mashed potatoes, salt and pepper to taste, then gently fold the stiff peaks beaten whites, pour in a soufflé mould and put in the oven. One of those family recipes that have neither proportion or oven setting info... When my mom was a child, if my grandma couldn't afford a more elaborate appetizer, she'd just pour a table spoon of olive oil in each plate, that would then be salted to taste and wiped with bread. It was my mom's favorite.

jamaican here. my struggle meal growing up consisted of mackerel in tomato sauce and boiled dumplings Ingredients: add water to a pot (idk what to say the measurement is just add it until u feel it's right), add around 1 tbsp salt, set on stove to boil put flour in a bowl (any amount is fine depending on how many dumplings u want) 1 tsp salt 2 tbsp cornmeal To prepare: slowly add water till it slowly turns into a dough (don't put a lot at once or the dough will be too sticky) from the dough, tear off palm sized balls and make it a semi thick flat circle (kinda like a Chinese dumpling before filling is added) if the water is boiling, add the semi thick dumplings to the pot stir to prevent them from sticking leave to cook for about 15-20 minutes at the 15 min mark, check to see if they're cooked by poking it with a fork if it goes thru its cooked Mackerel: go to the supermarket and get Mackerel in tomato sauce scallion onion scotch bonnet pepper (substitute with black pepper if you don't want it spicy) 1 clove of garlic (finely chopped) To prepare: in a frying pan, add a bit of oil add the vegetables and stir till onions are translucent add the Mackerel season as you see fit remove from heat after 5-6 minutes Enjoy!

I find it so funny whenever the cheese drips while melting, its like you try so hard to level it but it still drips.

some random american thinks he gets his secrets stolen while the european cheese makers open their doors freely to show cameras around

And their secrets are likely little to no different to what the Europeans do, they are just paranoid and probably think everyone will start their own cheese factory to steal their business.

@@tre641 it's the legal system, I'm telling you it's the legal system. Everyone knows how to make cheese. There is nothing so proprietary that some cheese nerd couldn't figure it out in a couple years. It's the legal system we have, anyone can be sued at any time for nearly every reason, even unreasonable reasons. Best bet is to simply refuse all uncontrolled access and any form of media to save tens of thousands of dollars over several years time, potentially losing your business to idiots or business rivals that have more capital. Now kindly; fuck off.

2:01 , 3:30 , 4:55 The cows are so cute! 🥹 The cheesemaking process is so satisfying to watch! And whoa, FutureCanoe touched grass and recorded quality drone footage?! 8:46 Whoaaa, that’s definitely the best cheese bubbling & raclette scrape I’ve seen here, you’re making me hungry 🤤 10:00 Lmaooo not the drone flipping out 😆 14:08 The cheese bubbling is so appetizing, yet it’s doomed to be part of an abomination 😔, seeing it scrape so well onto a PB&J of all things hurt 😭…. wait it tasted good?! Damn, now I’m curious… 🤔 16:26 😨… I have no words 😶 😱…. Ketchup, banana, and cheese…. yeah, let’s just pretend that never happened 🫠

Not even 2 minutes in and I’m already cracking up. “MrBallen episode” was hilarious. Cheese (not Philadelphia cheese) on sushi is normal. I watch a lot of Chef Hiro on KZbin and he puts cheese on a lot of the sushi.
