Lets start off with this car is mostly plastic. So to sell it for scrap metal, you literally make nothing. Like.. you get knocked down so much for all the plastic its not worth scrapping it. Yet someone did it anyway! And look! It runs and drives! They could have gave it a bath and sold it for a couple hundred bucks and gave someone a good running car. But its okay, their loss is our gain! Drop a comment down below and let me know what you think! Thanks for watching guys! Also Follow Us on snapchat! @ Jr.Smarticus

Saturn was a GM plant. They were union employees represented by the UAW. That plant was run under a different type of operating agreement that was different than most other GM plants, but it was a union plant where most of the initial employees previously came from other GM factories.

These old S-series Saturn's with the 1.9L engines are tanks. They all literally last forever with only the most basic service. They do burn as much oil as they do gas, also a couple of oddball common issues which leave a lot of people stumped like Coolant Temperature Sensor failures that require OEM replacements when they go, and the MP6 & MP7 automatic transmissions are quirky... but those automatics almost never need to be replaced or rebuilt; if they start shifting hard or slipping then it's almost always either a valve body issue or the input shaft nut needs replacement, both of which are dirt cheap to replace (and you can avoid having to replace either of them with regular trans fluid changes). Ultimately they were crappy little plastic cars that were slow, sat low to the ground, and didn't do anything all that well, but they are very durable & very underrated.

When Saturn was introduced, it was meant to be a great small car with utilitarian value. By today's standards, yes they are basic...but in 1993, the car was a big hit.

Saturn was more hype than a hit. They sold okay, but were still not up to the quality standards of Honda and Toyota. GM had some commercials that hyped the Saturn brand, like owners driving them cross country back to Tennessee for some annual barbeque.

I grew up 10 miles from the Saturn factory in Spring Hill TN. Yes GM built a whole new factory just to make Saturns. They were good cars, reliable, saw lots of them with high mileage like this one. They were pretty basic though, loud engine, plasticky, but a definite step up from a Cavalier. Roads around here were just thick with Saturns back in the 90's/2000's, I think in high school 10 different people had a hand me down Saturn for their first car. Then after 2010 or so all the Saturns vanished, haven't seen one on the road in years.

Must of been the cash for clunkers scrappage scheme. Saturn would be a prime victim. Personally I quite like the styling & philosophy behind the division but for a secondary market old car in 2019 I'd still opt for an old luxo-barge Mercury, Buick or Chrysler.

We scrapped my daughter's clean 2001 SC2 5-speed with under 150,000 miles. It developed a bad rod bearing and we did a pick-n-pull engine swap. That engine ran OK but wouldn't pass smog when it was due a year later. California paid us $1,500 to junk it - more than it was worth even if it did pass smog.

I got a Saturn that my dad gave me when he bought a Ford Ranger. He had it for about 4 years and I had it for a couple more years. I was a teenager at the time and I drove it like a teenager so that's really the only thing that killed it. It had 380,000 miles on it when it was scrapped. The car still ran, but it just had so much damage from my abuse that it would have cost a lot to repair. The hood had been damaged when I rear-ended someone in the rain and it didn't latch properly (it would latch if you slammed it). I took it for an oil change and they didn't shut it properly, I went over some train tracks and the hood came FLYING up resulting in a smashed windshield.

I have a 2004 Ford Expedition with 293K and it’s been in my family since new. The only work it’s needed was a new ignition coil, and the fuel pump relay went out the other day. Other than that the truck is all original and never gives up! America can make cars, it just depends on the car. I know of plenty of Honda’s with blown transmissions and Toyota’s with sludgy engines. Not all cars are created equal.

They probably pulled it because the compressor is shot and making noise. My sisters 99 300m finally blew the compressor so bad the bearings were about to lock up even after I pulled the connector. Luckily it's driven by a single belt that only is for it. I just cut the belt and the car is running quiet except quite warm inside and it was a easy free fix. Someday I'll buy a new compressor and replace it.

The Saturn S L2 with a 5 speed stick was a pretty bulletproof power training. By far the most reliable of the American cars and much more reliable then comparable Japanese rivals like the Mazda protege/3, Mitsubishi Mirage, and Nissan Sentra But not quite as reliable as a Toyota corola/Chevy prizm Or 100 civic. The Saturn S L-series biggest week this was its automatic transmissions.

I'd be surprised if that is the original motor with 282k on it. THe SL2 had the DOHC that burned lots of oil. There are no drain back holes in the pistons. This allows oil in the oil control rings to overheat, and eventually form a hard varnish which freezes the oil control rings in place.

I love these cars I mean I know there sorta cheap but love these cars I own one had it for about 5 years or more and it's the famous gold color Saturn they used that color a lot on these cars but it has 408 thousand miles on it and it takes me where I need to go just keep the oil full and I'm good it still has a/c mines a 98 tho and I don't have all that like that one has a sunroof or leather seats and mines a automatic but I really love to own that one even tho its white

I saw a roll over last year. Saturn SL like this. They pushed the car back on it's wheels, and other than a destroyed windshield, and a few roof dents, you wouldn't believe it rolled. They're surprisingly solid cars.
