I do enjoy taking those apart when I find them, I don't find them often but still find it worth taking apart especially since Aluminum has been going for good prices now compared to just a few years ago. Many screws though so they do take time to clean up. Ran into some odd screws on the last set from a Dish TV, had torx head on the screw, they looked like little torx driver bits sticking up so I ended up buying some female Torx Socket bits to help with those.
@sharkscrapper

Jay - yes, those are security Torx screws. They were designed to drive us nuts 🤣 You may have noticed the bits you purchased are designated ST# with the # being the size.

OK, I was surprised on this one. I had no idea what was inside. I will now keep these. Were can one go to get the correct drivers for easier disassemble of hard drives and boards. I get alot of computers printers but the work would go better with the right tools. Don't misunderstand I've got tons of tools. Just not the right ones on computers. When working I like smarter not harder. I do recycling for my scouts so this would be plus.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
I understand completely about having tons of tools but not always the right or most efficient ones. I get similar questions to this frequently enough that I've opened a small Amazon shop to make it easy for folks to find the tools I used. Complete transparency - I earn a commission on sales if you use this link. A portion of profits goes towards future shark research/adoption projects. The torx heads are here: amzn.to/3nlixsi

Yep. I always had odds and ends for screwdriver bits for the drill. I had a hand set of torx and still use for out of reach screws, but a good bit kit with variety of sizes is pretty cheap and pays for itself with time saved. And get a little manual set of tiny ones for hard drives and small torx screws. Careful using them in a power drill though cuz they can break the tips if the screw is too tight.

8000 screws later there is some satisfaction with the end results. 😅 Why is the yellow sheen of gold so attractive?? Even though these are a few atoms thick.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
I've asked myself that same question many times. Even when we know how thin it is, we're still drawn to it like moths to a flame...a golden flame.
@bevsman3284
@bevsman3284 2 жыл бұрын
Sir, you are making that so much harder than it actually is. The compound in the screw holes is so easy to simply scor out with a knife or screwdriver. Then you just remove the screws easily. Now your cast aluminum is clean.
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
I've done a lot of these and very few were easy to get clean screw holes. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but I've had many more that did not cooperate.

how do you tell the difference in gold , gold plate , and brass
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
In electronics the function of what you're assessing helps a lot. Most things that look gold are gold plated. Older electronics, pins, connectors, etc use gold plating. Newer electronics use ENIG on boards because it is less expensive UNLESS it is a connector, then plating is still needed. Brass with a high shine can be a little tricky but when held up next to gold you can see the difference. Gold test solutions are also very helpful, especially if you have jewelry that you're assessing.

I have wondered about what was within feed horns! Looks a bit time consuming to scrap them out. But if you are doing them it must be worth it. Do you sell them of plan on capturing the gold yourself? Enjoyed video!😊
@sharkscrapper
@sharkscrapper 2 жыл бұрын
Martha - a very good point about being time consuming. These are in my inventory for slow days. I let them accumulate and knock out a bunch of them at a time. I get faster with each one when I'm on a roll. I don't do gold recovery and sell these to BOARDSORT as peripheral high grade.
