I'm so happy that you did a kitchen aid. I have one, and I couldn't figure out how to remove the motor. Thank you, the video was very informative.

Thanks for watching. it is always fun taking something apart for the first time as there can be a small screw or bolt hidden somewhere and cause a lot of problems trying to tak the item apart.

Thanks. I will admit the first one was a little frustrating. After seeing the screws, it was a lot easier to take down the second one.

I gave up on one of these and it went in the last load of aluminum breakage. Now I have another, so I'll try again for the motor!

Once I figured out where all the screws were on the first one, the second one was way easier to take apart.

Love your videos. I pulled apart that treadmill the other day, found a gold necklace in there! Returned it to its owner and it had been lost for decades!.. what would you recommend keeping an eye out for if looking for aluminium? Domestic/extrusion either way. That’s been my bread and butter so far
@TinManScrapper
@TinManScrapper 4 ай бұрын
Ladders are always good for extrusion as are heat sinks from circuit boards (they are more common). Nice that you returned the necklace. If it is a home pickup it is a lot easier to locate the person with the lost item. A lot harder if you would have found the treadmill in the dumpster. Stay well and happy scrapping

@@TinManScrapper around my area it’s illegal to go through most dumpsters so I find all my scrap on Facebook community groups or just on the side of the road. I’ve got a small bit of heat sink saved up. Scrapped a motorcycle frame today that was a good pay! Thanks so much for your tips it’s really helped us get by in a rough patch. Safe ventures!

I hate seeing broken kitchen aid mixers especially two of them,I love mine so much and use it all the time I wonder what fails on them? We need to get a repair guy to chime in here I’m not trying to buy a new mixer in this hyperinflation environment nor am I trying to live without mine. We definitely need a good mixer fixer to advise.

I think sometimes the motors just die. Although the neighbour did say that she had hers forever, o at least they last a long time, unlike some items we buy and use.

KitchenAid mixers are virtually indestructible Parts are available. They are repairable and I am sure worth much more repaired than as scrapped.

Everything can be repaired and as such worth more in good workable condition, but hard to keep everything and wait for a buyer. The neighbour told me hers was unrepairable

Just checked the price here, #2 insulated copper wire is .80 cents & aluminum cans are 50, here is Tallahassee FL, USofA. There's only one place around so the prices are kinda beat down. Electric motors .15. Zinc, pot/pop metal is just called 'shred', everything that isn't aluminum & copper & brass and goes for anything between 1 to 10 cents, usually 5. Thanks, entertaining.

Yeah, amazing the price difference here compared to where you live. I did ask the yard in London why their prices are so good and they said “have to keep it high since there are several scrapyards in close proximity.”

'Thanks for the how to. How to know when something is zinc rather than aluminum? I have heard zinc is found in electrical materials and other consumer products.
@rjlayton
@rjlayton 4 ай бұрын
I use old battery acid to identify metals. Just file or grind a bare spot and apply one drop of acid to the metal. Aluminum has no reaction, zinc makes small bubbles and magnesium makes big bubbles. Other people use copper sulfate root killer for drain pipes with the same method. Also zinc is a lot more dense than aluminum.

@@rjlayton thank you for this. This helped me out alot. I knew some of the non ferrous metal I took in to sell must have been zinc but the buyer just wanted to combine it all as aluminum and not tell me which was zinc or other. I'll now be able to keep it separated and tell the buyer to give me zinc prices with your help.

Thanks for the tip. Good technique too, but you got to be careful with that acid. Don’t want it leaking an over the garage. Stay well.
