The Scrapyard forum has a place for sheath makers who don't require you to send them the blade since they usually own most of them.

a bowie tip is sometimes good for a woodsmans knife as its good for drilling holes in wood and carving divets for bowdrill etc

For backcountry use, you may like the Bidor Parangs. They can be tough to get your hands on since you need to find a way to get one imported from Malaysia, but they are hand made from very fine tool steel. After getting one myself, I must say I am pleasantly surprised with its wicked sharp edge and chopping power.

This blade came with an optional nylon sheath for $20 more if I recall correctly. Or get a SpecOps or cheap kydex custom sheath. If you want a similar size knife from this awesome company, check out the 711 they are currently selling from the factory. FYI it will ship weeks or months after you place the order, since they are basically made to order in batches. Factor into the price it has a life time guarantee for any breakage. Look at their forum for more info.

Noss made a video of the Busse blades, he abused them beyond their intended purpose and surprisingly survived far beyond a number of other blades. Seeing as how most people don't need knives to this, it is definitely second kind of cool.

Moras are hard to beat for the price. They may not hold up super well against wire, depending upon what kind of wire, how thick it is, etc., but it'll do as well as any other knife of a similar thickness/edge geometry. If nothing else, you can get a new one for $10-15.

for me in terms of fixed blades im in love with Condor right now. nothing but pure and simple work horse blades. nothing fancy (pun intended), 1075 carbon steel with a great heat treat. and they literally have a blade out there for everyone.. every size, any handle material, every blade shpae u could need. they are also still the king of machetes... oh yea and their most expensive knives run about $80 if thats not a perfect price for what ur getting idk what is.

Oh Sweet....! That is an awesome knife, he he...holding out on us. what I like about the knife is the profile of the knife...it looks mean and tough and it chops like a MoFo. The stuff I do not like about them is that they do not come with a scarab. But youcan make one from leather or kydex.

The Hoodlum has been known to stress fracture at the notch. It would not endure the abuse that a Scrapyard blade can take. Given the choice I prefer the blade least likely to break in a scenario where my life may depend on it.

There is a reason why most hand crafted modern made European swords are made from 1095 steel is because it is so very durable and keeps and edge.

A light review gives more options. If Nutn's cumulative experience is telling him an untested tool is most likely to rock so long as he represents exactly what he knows and does not know that it has not been through heavy testing in TNP, keep em rolling! It's like taking a shot in the dim rather then in complete dark.

He did a vid on the Junglas. Him and Esee got into it at Shot and he pulled the vid. As for the Junglas. Great knife. I have one. It's better than the CS Trailmaster or RTAK2 by a wide margin even though the RTAK2 is its cousin. Rowen is said to be one of the top heat treat gurus for 1095.

SR-101 is extremely rust prone, one of the reasons I would rather have a Busse (INFI steel) over Srap Yard or Swamp Rat. INFI is more rust resistant in my experience and an excellent steel for all-round outdoor use.
