Brilliant! The feel of a northern railway station not in its first flush of youth is been perfectly captured. Going under the covered rood area you could see someone trying to find a dingy Red Start Parcel office. Keep the videos going Michael as i'm hooked.

Over the months I have watched Chandwell station progress from bare platforms. It has been a fabulous journey for me and the new terminus buildings cement my awe of the way you have created a slice of a fictitious town that is rich, plausible , and reeking of the right level of grime and history. You have convinced me to go back to N gauge!

Thank you so much Duncan. When I started those bare platforms I didn't really know where I would end up. It's been a fun journey and we're not there yet. Thank you so much for following along with me as I "make stuff up" on Chandwell. N Gauge is small, but I think that is its main benefit - I have a mainline station in a tiny little room - go for it! --Michael.

The more you build, Michael, the grimmer it gets, and that can only mean one thing... That's right. Negative equity on all the houses in Chandwell. House prices have plummeted, but hopefully, when things pick up, two lucky locals will eventually be able to afford to buy the two small buildings on the end of the station... 🤣😂🤣😂🤣 And as for that twenty pence piece malarkey. You're not fooling anyone Michael. That's a 5 inch 20 pence piece and you drew in Inkscape. No doubt you will produce another masterpiece where you show us how to make an equilateral curved heptagon from an ALDI Weetabix Packet wrapped in a 20p printed wrap, and knowing you Michael, probably with a chocolate filling... Jealousy is a terrible thing, but we love to see your deliverables. Superb as usual. 👌

Well Peter. You got me. The 20p is made of card. But it’s a good’un isn’t it!? Thank you for your comment. It made me laugh out loud and cheered me up no end. @@Chandwell I am sure that in Chandwell, the Victorians were big on flat roofs. And don't forget the number one rule of railway building. Its your railway Michael, and you can do whatever you wish... So if the complex Victorian roof with dormers, and pergolas, and lean-to garages were to collapse, then you may build a flat roof... There's a joke in there somewhere about Yorkshire Flat Roof Caps, and if the cap flips, wear it, but it's all above my head right now...🙄 Keep safe mate.

Michael, love your videos. For those of us in the US, we are not familiar with your coins, so the scale comparison is bit meaningless. Just a tip, in many shipbuilding groups I frequent, the standard props are a Bic lighter, or if really tiny, a Tic Tac mint. Keep up the good work.
@Chandwell

Aaah! Thank you for that! Someone else suggested a banana was the standard! A lighter and a Tic Tac make far more sense! I forget that I have some non-UK viewers. Hello from across the pond, Canada ..not the colonies... the coin didn't help, lol. SO, I googled "diameter of 20p" so now I have a reference point :D You're builds are are absolutely incredible, absolutely beautiful. You've done me a huge favour (yes, with a "u", like it's supposed to be). I'm disabled and on a very tight budget. Thanks to you, I know I can build a beautiful layout without spending thousands. I remember when I was a kid, it was a very affordable hobby. Now it's a "rich mans" hobby, so having "discovered" your site is a godsend. I just have to ramp it up to 1:87. I'll be having a look at the program although it looks a bit undaunting, I'll see if I can figure it out. Maybe you could have a video just explaining how it works? You know, for us old timers that aren't computer savvy.

Cracking job there Mike, as always. I often just colour my card edges, you can still see a join but it's not as noticeable as white card is One thing I often forget to take into account is the thickness of my card (1mm stock) Often I'll print a roof out and find it's too short due to the thickness of the card.. So now, I tend to add on 3mm to get a slight over hang. Cheers!
@Chandwell
@Chandwell 3 жыл бұрын
After trial and error I find that my “1mm” card plus a sheet of 110gsm photo paper glued on top is 1.2mm thick. De when I’m calculating layers I use that figure. I use 0.7mm for my 0.5mm card and 0.8mm for cereal packet.

It looks like your tolerance level for cutting and fitting is a tenth of a millimetre (or even less!). How do you get this level of precision by hand cutting? I think I'd need a machine for that accuracy. Do you have to account for the width of the blade at this scale?
@Chandwell
@Chandwell 11 күн бұрын
It’s a yes and a no. I draw in Inkscape to an accuracy of a thousandth of a millimetre as that is how the software works. However, the lines just print onto the paper wherever they are. Whether a line is 3mm or 3.06mm away from another, I still just have to cut along it. Obviously it’s much more coarse than that once cut and it all glues together well enough. I don’t need to worry about total accuracy and I certainly don’t ever think about the width of the blade. Hope that makes some kind of sense!
@dcarbs2979
@dcarbs2979 10 күн бұрын
@@Chandwell Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for your answer. At least I don't have to worry about accuracy smaller than I can see! e.g. the width of fibres caused by a rough cut. That fitment was so snug, I thought it would matter more. This is quite a bit different to other crafts I've tried. In upholstery (or almost anything with fabric), you can stretch out errors that are as small as this in fabric or stitch. In a woodword course I did, we did have to consider the width of the blade (tenon saw), as a gap that was the size of the blade width could make a loose fitment. As a beginner, I didn't have that accuracy! It was at a much bigger scale than this of course.
