**Important Note**
I really enjoy watches and that's why I started this channel so I could review them regularly but my satisfaction is not found in owning or experiencing watches, no matter how many I may accumulate or how luxurious and expensive they may be . . .
Wise King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 5:10 "He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity."
The truth is, material possessions of any kind, money, power, etc. never can and never will satisfy our hungering souls. Only knowing, loving, and serving God can truly satisfy.
The only way we can have a real relationship with God, the Creator of the Universe, is through the Lord Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God.
"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." John 14:6
Through Christ's sacrificial death on the cross, for my sins and your sins, and His resurrection from the dead we can have peace with God (Romans 5:1), forgiveness of sins (Acts 10:43), eternal life (John 3:16), and so much more!
In Christ, we can know true joy now and for all eternity.
"He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life." - 1 John 5:12

I mean it’s true but hey if I’m paying $300 for a watch I want the damn thing to last and I don’t want to worry about sticking my hand in the microwave to get said hot pocket to find scratches on the face of my $300 watch.

I don't give a f*ck about water resistance. But so far I've given every daily rocker great scratches on the watch glass, if it wasn't sapphire. So yes, that's important to me.

mineral crystal, allways have a hardness between 7 and 8 on the mohs-scale. hardlex can still be harder, but the scale of the mohs-pics are not fine enough to mesure the difference. much more precise would be the Vickers-scale (but much harder to perform and to calculate) between 7 and 8 on the mohs scale are 307 different hardnesslevels on the vickers-scale, therefor a mohs-hardness test dont tell everything ;)

with light scratches on level 7 and deeper groves on level 8 ;) but regardles: i think, Mineral Crystal and even Acrylic is highly underrated, deffenetly in toolwatches. For everydaywatches and dresswatches with modern capabilitys to grow and polish crystals in all forms and sizes, saphire is deffenetly the way to go. BUT! harder Materials are good against scratches but not so good against pressure and hard impacts. If you realy rely on an watch in a harsch envoirment, maybee as a military person, mineral crystal or even more, acryl is the better option, because it can take a beat. of cource, acryl will scratch easely, but what will serve you better: a watch with a scratches, but intact crystal or a broken watch because the crystal is broken or shattered? so, i think, for field and divewatches, that realy ment to be used in action, acryl is, controversial, i know, the best option, you even can use the softness and bendability of acryl to improve the waterproofnes under pressure (like Vostok profs with the Amphibian)

I tend to disagree with you. Less hard materials can quickly become illegible if overused. Sapphire crystals in the watches intended for tough circumstances are thick enough that breakage in the crystal is quite unlikely.

Using Polywatch mineral crystal polish on Seiko hardlex crystals and my newly acquired Nighthawk, I also found that they were about equivalent in hardness. True mineral crystal would have the hardness of glass, which is 5-6, so clearly Citizen is using a similar hardening process on their Nighthawk crystal.

I wear a gshock till I figure out which higher end watch to buy. I have a casioak, an analog and I work in a dying factory 🏭. I deal with hard steel, threaded poles, and after 3 weeks the mineral glass is fine but I have a micro nick in the black bezel. It's not easy to pay attention to not hit my wrist. I had other mineral glass watches from seiko to Hamilton quartz and I was working retail at those times and ended up scratching the crstals at least two times on both watches. I might go solar gshock later because I get lazy and forget to change battery

Chinese £65 watch comes with a "classic design" sapphire crystal, ceramic bezel insert and a NH35A. Oh and solid endlinks, screw link bracelet with a milled clasp. The bezel action is a little light but it's precise, also the crown doesn't function with the same slickness as a £200 Seiko but it's functional. Of course you could always spend a little more (£105) and get a better bezel action, slick crown and some AR on the sapphire crystal. I think you're absolutely right, the big Japanese companies need to up their game.

I can see why so many watches in the "affordable" range use mineral instead of sapphire. I like sapphire for its scratch resistance, and I like acrylic for its ability to take a scratch and be recoverable. Mineral occupies that dubious middle ground; it scratches but can't be easily "buffed out." I use care when I'm wearing a mineral crystal watch, but of course I still have a few little boo-boos.

The thing is sapphire really isnt that much more than mineral on the wholesale market. I dont see any reason for any watche over $200-300 wouldnt use sapphire. I mean, I suppose if youre looking at mass production, you have to consider every penny vs profitability. But still i think most people would be happy to spend even $50 extra for any comparable seiko model if they replaced the hardlex with sapphire.

“Let’s scratch crystals” and the smile on your face wasn’t an expression I would want to show, this is your crazy side that we enjoy seeing.... enjoy this side from you, and what a great side by side job too ;) I keep having discussions about sapphire, especially with it being a deal breaker, but with the majority of my collection that’s mineral, I just have to tell them that mineral is a good choice, and seeing it used most commonly on G-Shocks is plenty reasons why it’s a good choice. This must’ve taken some time to edit, especially finding those parts in your previous videos. I was expecting around 7, but 8 is a really good score. Now, it’s about which one shatters first, using flex ;) Another great show... huge thumbs with a 10 from me ;)

@@TheTownWatch From Chris’s channel back to yours ;) He did a great job, but your side by side has the edge (Pune) I would clamp them in a vice, then add weight to the exposed edge. Hope I can explain this well enough... So above the exposed edge you have a piece of pipe, then used a rod to slide down into the pipe which has a platform to which you can add weights too... then it’s a choice to what weight items you choose... will need a two camera setup for sure... I’m sure there’s other ideas, but you need a good platform to rest the weight upon, which is then resting on he crystal. Now this is testing only one side of it, but feel testing it when the crystal is fully resting on the outside edge could be difficult, unless you have a specific machine that records data. Would be a cool follow up video ;)

I was actually thinking you were crazy 🤪 If I hold a saphire crystal to my forehead it feels like an ice cube. If I hold a mineral crystal to my forehead it feels warm. If I hold a seiko hardlex crystal to my forehead it feels as cold as an ice cube, practically the same as the saphire crystal. From that test I assumed the make up of a Hardlex crystal and its scratch resistance would have been closer to saphire in toughness. 🤷‍♂️ If Seiko won't give us Saphire then we should tell them to make their Hardlex better.

Just got into watches this year (unfortunately $$) and went with a Seiko SRPD79, well half asleep I banged it against our island counter top and scratched it pretty good, now I only want sapphire but that said, who knows if sapphire would have cracked under that impact. Gonna give mineral crystal some more time before I ban it for good lol Liked the video! What prompted me to search this is that Citizen has so many cool watches but in the USA they generally have mineral. It drives me nuts when a lot of their similar JDM have sapphire. I would even pay more, just give me sapphire! Till then, when this Citizen Promaster diver arrives I will see how well it does while at work.

Thanks for the video! I knew that hardlex nonesense was all marketing mumbo jumbo. I mean they might do something different to the glass just enough to slap a proprietary label on it. Such a disappointment that seiko uses hardlex on almost all of their sub $500 watches when there are many other brands that can do it. And theres nothing snobby about this sapphire love! I had a citizen with mineral crystal for 7 years. All things considered it held up pretty well. But did have a few scratches and overall lost much of its original clarity. My hamilton however after 3 years of daily wear is absolutely flawless. Either domed sapphire or acrylic all the way for me!

Steel can be between 5 and 8 on the mohs-scale.. thats the beauty of steel, you can produce steel in the hardness you need. toolsteel is not one specific steel (because not all tools need the same steel), its a large group of different steels

Hardlex is slightly harder than normal mineral crystal, but your hardness test isnt precise enough to pick up the difference. Hardlex would be 7.8 and regular mineral 7.3 or something. In terms of material hardness, between 7 and 8 is a huge difference.

Your not wrong that big watch brands are stingy with Saphire crystals. Honestly I think its marketing to make their high end watches look more impressive and that fact that most people don't know what saphire is. They just hear things like hardlux is much better than saphire and believe th BS. But if a 200 dollar mirco brand can do it they can too. Hell I got the quatz version of the venerable Seiko SARB that I picked up for 100 nucks and it has saphire so sometimes the marketing does miss something and they do do it. I doubt they'll chg though. Thats why I put film screen protectors on my mineral glass watches. Do they really need it? Probably not but it gives me piece of mind. Especially since I'll beat my watches to hell and not give AF . Unless you scratch that glass. Thats when OCd kicks in for me. Its why I have film on some of my Saphire watchesx too. After all just because its Saphire dosen't mean it won't scratch. Some road rash on a bike proved that on for me on my Momentum Steelix.😅 Thank gods Momentum replaced it for 30 dollars. And that right there just proves how cheap Saphire is and that ALL watch makers are blowing smoke up our asses. Just like charging you and extra 200-400 bucks to put a measly storage upgrade on your phone for something that probably costs less than the smaller memory. Saphire is just an excuse to upcharge the shit of an upcale watch. If St moritz/Momentum chagers 30-60 bucks you know most of that cost is their on staff watch makers not the bloody crystal. Which is Synthetic by the way. Just like the "jewels" in your watch mech movments.
