When getting fiber glass off your skin, use masking tape or duct tape and a little heat like a hair dryer. Tape over the fiber glass that stuck into your skin, run the hair dryer over the tape so the sticky glue gets warm enough you can stand it and it sticks to the fiber glass. Have someone pull the tape off, but the opposite end. The reason is, it depends on the angle of the fiber glass and how it went in. If the fiber glass went in as a right angle then you pull the tape the opposite way, if it went in straight then get someone to help, you'll need both ends of the tape pulled. I used to work with fiber optics, and even though I worked with one piece of fiber glass at a time, sometimes it would break and stick to my skin.

I was looking for an art medium for my daughter. She recently changed jobs and has more time. I found scratchboards and never knew they existed. Love your work and process. I hope she enjoys her Christmas gift. I'll share your video with her after she opens the package.

How cool, many thanks. If she enjoys it, get her to hit me up on Facebook or Instagram and I'll point her in the direction of all my friends who produce incredible scratchboard art which will give endless inspiration.

@@PatrickHedgesArtist I will. She loves tattoos and has many of them. She also worked in that field for a while. I am thinking her style might translate well to this medium.

fantastic work what size is the clutch pencil in terms of pencil lead ir uses and what size tattoo needle you use for the clutch pencil
@PatrickHedgesArtist
@PatrickHedgesArtist 5 ай бұрын
Thank you John. The clutch I'm using to hold the fibreglass brush is 2mm in size, and that will also hold those tattoo needles that you saw in my run down of the tools at the beginning, the long ones, but when I use the microblading needles on the eyes, I was given those with the holder and I have never needed to buy any since I was given so many. However, if you search microblading needles, you'll find plenty of ways to buy the holder too. I much prefer them to the standard tattoo needles on my table as I can control them more.

hi, im new to claybord, can you tell me plz, did you paint the claybord black first, ty rob.
@PatrickHedgesArtist
@PatrickHedgesArtist 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, with clayboard I get my drawing done then I use an airbrush to paint in the dark areas of my image, no detail, just generally spraying the dark bits, and then I use my scratching tools to pull out the lighter areas and create the detail. I add more darks in and pull more lights out, working in layers. I'm not sure if that makes enough sense but I just call it pushing and pulling.

@@PatrickHedgesArtist hi, thanks for your reply, the reason i asked is that ive just got my first claybord and the surface is white, and yours looks black, i was wondering if you sprayed it black first? ty rob.
@PatrickHedgesArtist
@PatrickHedgesArtist 2 жыл бұрын
@@roberthossack286 ah, point taken. No, that's just a scratchboard - it already comes black. Just to be clear, scratchboard is ink on clay on board, clayboard is just clay on board and you add the ink in yourself. You could say that clayboard is more versatile because you can add what you want, but definitely scratchboard is more common, and possibly a little easier as a beginner.

I bought a fibre glass pen to try this but find that as soon as I start the black ink sticks to the fibre glass tip and becomes a spreader of ink. What am I missing - how do I clean it?

Hi guys, good question. There is really only one type of fibreglass brush I use. Ampersand make brilliant boards but their fg brushes aren't really up to it (although I haven't bought one for a long time now) and I haven't seen any others that are much good either. The only one I like is the 2mm one from this video. which fits into a 2mm clutch pencil which you can usually buy at any art shop, or even many newsagents. I get the brush in packs of 12 from a company called Micro-Mark. If you get on a search engine and search micro-mark Ultra Micro Fiberglass Refills you'll get there. Actually, here's the link www.micromark.com/Ultra-Micro-Fiberglass-Refills-Pkg-of-12 I find any other one does what you said, it more shines the ink on the board whereas this one is abrasive enough to remove it. They still take some practice but eventually it goes well. Also, if it clogs up, which these don't so much, just have an inkless board handy and rub on the clay and the ink will come out, but I don't really have to do that with these. Best of luck :)
