Y'know, as a die hard fan, I of course had a feeling they were gonna "Han Solo" Dewey in this one, so I had mentally prepared for it. And it is sad, of course, but, in a way too, it is OK and I do kinda agree that it made some sense. If all else, I'm glad Dewey and Arquette - who was always the most vocal about returning to the series - got his overdue props and appreciation. Also, Y'know, it's a slasher movie and part of the fun is not knowing if characters you love will make it and, yes, even having them not survive. That said (and we'll see how well this comment holds-up in a year when we get Scream 6), I have a feeling that these new writers and directors will continue to honor Dewey and still have him be a part of the series. If anything, I think having visions of Billy was their way of setting-up an organic way to bring back dead characters without actually having them survive

What I loved about Dewey in this movie is he's really battle hardened. In the past movies he was this goofy character who wasn't great at actual physical confrontations but in this movie they made his character more tough. Its just a shame he met his end at the hands of two amateurs. He deserved better.

Man, this scene really was something else, and really hard to watch the first time. When he got stabbed, I thought they were for sure just pulling a “Scream 2” and only severely wounding him since he hadn’t been stabbed since that movie (which, that alone would have been affective). But then that slicing began, and my whole body went cold because I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It honestly made me feel sick to my stomach seeing such a great, likable, and fleshed out character get brutally thrown away like that after 25 years. I grew up on Scream, and Dewey was always my favorite character. The series honestly won’t feel the same knowing that he in fact DOES end up getting killed by a Ghostface. Especially like that.

It's a very divisive subject. Arguably more than Randy. You have some who just thought one of the legacy 3 had to go, others who just hate the decision (I lean more towards that camp), and some who are in the middle. They get it, but did it really HAVE to happen? Maybe severely injuring and/or comatose would have been the better call? I'd like to think from a character standpoint, Sid still would've returned for payback.

You know something? For years, I had this feeling and I knew this day would come at some point. For Dewey I mean. Within each sequel after Scream (1996), I kept thinking to myself "Dewey's gonna die isn't he?" every time. He got a severed nerve after being stabbed in the back in Scream 1. Got stabbed some more and almost died in Scream 2. It felt like he finally got his act together in Scream 3 when he saved Gale and helped Sidney kill Roman. He became the sheriff and got married to Gale (for ten years) in Scream 4. This man kept surviving out of sheer luck through the first four movies. But now, it unfortunately finally ran out in Scream 5. Also, I just want to point out that before he died, Dewey was able to save Sam's sister Tara when he couldn't save his own sister Tatum back in the first killing spree in 1996. It's unfortunate that he died, yes. He already lost his own sibling many years back; and now, in 2022, it was just Deja Vu for him when the killers, Amber and Richie, were going after the Carpenter sisters Sam and Tara. Dewey didn't want that same thing to happen to somebody else. Personally, for their choice of killing off Dewey, I feel like that was a great way to send him off in my opinion. But hey, on the bright side, at least he can now finally be with Tatum once again and as always justice was served for the killers in the end. RIP

Dewey was my favorite character. And going in I knew we were going to have to lose one of the original’s for the integrity of the movie. But it didn’t make it hurt any less. I was hoping it wouldn’t be Dewey, but deep down I just knew it would be. I am glad they had the killer acknowledged how big a deal killing Dewey was though.
