As a die-hard Scream fan, I'll never forget first watching this in theaters with the biggest smile on my face thinking, "Yeah, this is a 'Scream' movie all right, and I love it." ❤ I just love how absolutely unafraid they are to actually discuss film and the horror genre. Makes it truly stand out in a way its imitators don't. I loved this new one and think it's exactly the kind of horror movie the world needed / needs right now

I actually saw someone saying this wasn’t like a real Scream cause it didn’t comment on the current state of film… even though… it did. In this scene. And it’s not even horror either, it’s about Hollywood right now too. Every series is doing requels. And lots of elevated horror movies are coming out too. Last Friday night, myself and 14 friends and acquaintances got to watch SCREAM 5 , right there in the Meeks house that the whole cast is sitting and talking about who the killer is. What was pretty cool was we were watching the movie on the SAME TV you see in the movie with Billy Loomis' picture on it. So we were watching the movie on the tv in the movie , that has stuff about the ORIGINAL movie on it, lol ! It was a lot of fun. We even had the same snacks out on the coffee table that they have in the movie, along with a homemade fake blu ray copy of STAB sitting on the table. Of course all of us were wearing something with SCREAM on it. It's a night none of us will ever forget. All thanks given to my friend that arranged it all for us. 😱🖤😱🖤😱🖤😱🖤😱

What's funny is Scream isn't a requel, the in universe Stab movie that the killers in this one are trying to make would be; but by acknowledging and then interacting with the cannon of the other Scream movies past the first one, it really isn't doing anything other than being a new sequel trying to introduce new characters; which they already tried with Scream 4. This is why I'm really worried about the new one; I don't know where Scream 6 can go and how it has anything left to say about where horror films are right now, since they already addressed requels. The only other horror fad I can think of that's going on right now is horror as social and political commentary, and since this scene already explains that this franchise isn't about that kind of thing; I don't think that's what we'll see.

You see, part of why the Scream movies are so great is because you try to figure throughout each film who the killers are and what their motives are before the reveal. If a prequel was made, it wouldn't work because we already know that Billy and Stu were the original killers, it was revenge for Sidney's mom having an affair with Billy's dad leading to Mrs. Loomis leaving, and that Roman caused all of this to happen in the first place. A prequel wouldn't work because we already know the answers to the mystery. In addition, in each film, everyone knows the formula for the supposed film they are in. If a prequel was made, none of them would think they're in a prequel. Unless Billy and Stu at the end decided to say "This isn't our first movie. This is just the prequel. Next year... Next year will be the real first movie. And then... we plan the sequel."

I just realise Mindy predicted Saw X, because Saw X is more of a requel/legency sequel more then anything else; where Jigsaw is more of a prequel and Spiral is pretty much its own thing but still part of the Saw timeline/universe.
