0:38 Yeah, but I think you were RIGHT to be cynical. “Scream 3” really is a crappy movie. It’s completely unnecessary (the first “Scream” movie really didn’t need any sequels), it has such a boring, lazy, poorly-written, by-the-numbers plot, and it is the exact same cliché thing that it comments on/mocks.

@@RickvanVeldhuizen I personally disagree and I'm forever grateful that was left on the cutting room floor lol When Roman initially seems like he died, he and Sid held hands and had a moment that seemed to me to reflect on what could have been if they'd been able to have a normal brother and sister relationship and acknowledged that they were connected. Despite Roman’s super convoluted motivation for hunting Sid and her friends, you must credit him for being a strong Ghostface in that he manages this all by himself. Sure his reveal was tepid but he really went all out attacking Sid in the movie room. Scream 3 may have been a half comedy, but when Sid was shot, I believed it for a moment that she’d lost. Roman got very close. Even more close than Jill.

Scream 3's my favorite Sidney Prescott iteration. Neve Campbell's portrayal of a broken Sidney is what carries the movie for me. This whole movie is about trauma, Scream (1996) focuses a lot on Maureen's alleged promiscuity, and this movie comes to tackle that story line. Casting couch destroyed Maureen, and that bled through every decision she ever made moving forward; tried to find some solace in building a family but, the pain of unresolved trauma just wouldn't go away. I guess the humor in this movie was needed to balance the darkness of its themes, and IMO, they made a good job with it. I am happy that the original "Cult of Ghostface" was scrapped for this to come to life, we got the best character development of the franchise ,in Sidney's and Maureen's, thanks to it. Nice ending to the trilogy.

Yup. Live in Texas, as far back as 2002 when I was in first grade we had simulated lockdowns called Code Blue to get us ready for potential school shootings. We'd barricade ourselves in a corner of the room, the teacher would lock the door turn off the lights and stay off to the side. And we would stay in silence for 30 minutes while designated teachers came to bang on our doors and try to scare us. I remember the first time it happened some classmates cried. By highschool it would be time off to be on our phones and we were already used to it, around the time of Sandy Hook. I graduated hs in 2013. Now we're desensitized and even make movies about school shootings featuring gratuitous violence. I worry for the next generation.

The Kill Count series started off as exactly what it sounds like, counting kills, but much like the Scream series, it evolved over time and started to focus more on the BTS and meta aspect of horror. Scream 3’s Sidney arc is actually fitting and Neve gave her best performance imo. Sidney’s living in self-imposed exile and isolation is what they did with Laurie Strode in Halloween 2018 or Luke in The Last Jedi before the 'hero went into exile after a traumatic event' trope went cool. Also if you rewatch Scream 2, there are many hints of Sidney taking 'being alone' as a solution which really paved the way to her isolation in Scream 3, so narrative-wise, Sidney's action in living in isolation not only makes sense and is in-character, but was also set up directly in 2, this shows great continuity and the ability of filmmakers able to pull off a consistent character arc across films. And Scream 3 finally wrapped up her arc by her leaving her door open, and moving on. A beautiful end note of the greatest final girl in the original trilogy, which Scream 5 picked up on greatly by confirming she married and formed a family with Mark Kincaid.

I know this is a bad take but i honestly like the reveal of Roman being the killer at the end and Sydney's half brother and how it ties into the dark message of Hollywood. Roman works as the killer because he's manipulative, he knows the movie sets and the tricks of the trade to pull this off even by himself. Plus when it comes to encapsulating the core of a Ghost face the core is Jealousy. Which after Roman's kill count becomes the driving force with the "Fan Killers" of the next Scream films. A lot of people compare Scream 3 to a Telenovela in terms of writing but honestly i think that's what makes the film work. Over the top drama that you wouldn't see anywhere else makes this film work. Plus i loved Sydney's final battle with Roman at the end where she confronts him on all his jealousy bullcrap issues with her. She didn't need to meet him because to her all the Ghost Faces are the same Jealousy bull crap she's been dealing with since Billy and Stu tried to kill her.

In retrospect, Scream 3 had balls to make the conflict as a result of a gang rape committed by a movie director when the Weinstein’s were so involved in the franchise
@Wednesdaywoe1975

The movie is taking a stab (pun intended) at the OG slimebag, Roman Polanski. Convicted of drugging and raping a 13 year old, he fled to France in the 70s and had just been given a lifetime achievement award by the Academy, even though he couldn't legally step on American soil to accept it. The final round of murders calls back to the death of his (barely 18 year old) wife Sharon Tate. The shit about Weinstein wouldn't hit the fan for years.

I kinda love how weirdly wholesome Liev Schreiber's "movie star demands" are for these movies. Other actors demand more screentime or to get all the best lines, he just asks "Can my dog have a walk-on?" (the second movie) and "Can I take my jacket off and show how buff I've gotten?" (this one.) It's just amusing to me.

Depends what you mean by annoying, I don't think he's annoying as Ghostface or in his reveal scene. As a director, before the reveal, maybe not annoying but you definitely aren't meant to have respect or sympathy for him. People are dead and his takeaway is "Someone is trying to ruin MY movie". Reposted from previous Kill Count: I really liked how, despite Randy's assertions the killer would be supernatural, the series remained grounded and realistic (for a slasher film series, at any rate), yet they still managed to incorporate seemingly supernatural elements. Sidney's dreams and "visions" about her mother make perfect sense once this stuff starts getting stirred up, what with her PTSD, and especially with Roman guiding her towards things like the "Maureen Murder Flashback" set that will be triggers for her. Bulletproof vests let Roman (and Sidney) be more durable than a human should otherwise be, evoking certain unstoppable killers. The ornate ice pick Sidney uses brings to mind any number of magic daggers from assorted classic horror films, and the final shot of it sticking out of Roman's chest is evocative of the classic stake in the heart of a vampire. And finally, of course, Roman only dies for real when Dewey shoots him in the head.

There is a lot of slapstick in the first three, but especially this one where it's not just limited to Ghostface. In my opinion, if Roman and Sydney had known and met each other beforehand, the Ghostface reveal would have been more impactful (also if Roman got more screen time). And instead of pursuing Sydney, he pursued John Milton in full for what he did to Maureen Prescott, by destroying the film's chances of commercial success by killing off Milton and the rest of the crew. The Director role would have allowed him to move his plan into motion. Also, in my version, Roman didn't "direct" Stu and Billy to murder Maureen, because that wouldn't make sense.

Scream 3 is one of my favorites in the franchise, it's nowhere near bad, all the Scream films are great, but I think as far as Sidney's arc goes, 3 ends it in a nice way to where if this was the final film, it would be a pretty satisfying trilogy. After everything the OG3 had gone through, it was nice to think they'd finally all get a happy ending.
