I got heavy Scream 2 vibes. There are so many Scream 2 parallels, the weirdest being that this is the only other Scream movie to come out within a year of the previous one. There was also the Gale punch, the park scene, the end climax taking place on a stage, also the very end where we think the brother is dead but we hear the "we got a live one", like with Dewey. And how could I forget one of the villains being related to the previous killer.

Mindy being stabbed in the subway reminded me of Randy's death in Scream 2, since both attacks happen in a public place in broad daylight (well, broad indoor light in Mindy's case) with lots of people around. The attack on Mindy is a lot more telegraphed but I still felt like there was that element of "surely GF couldn't get away with it here..." Nope! Now that I think of it it's also a bit like Jada Pinkett's death scene, crowded surroundings but nobody's paying attention. As much as I love campus horror I'm happy they had the gang live off-campus and focused on the metropolitan setting instead. It had its nods to 2 but it didn't feel like a retread at all.

All of those reasons are why I don't love this one. It's TOO similar to Scream 2. There's no point in paying homage to a previous film in a franchise so heavily.

That was sort of the point I believe It's following the trend of requels that was explained in the first movie, so this movie will parallel scream 2, and the next likely scream 3.

I'm okay with them keeping them alive just felt emotionally manipulated with how much they were all stabbed many times and pulled through miraculously. It's not a new thing in the franchise but I don't think they had ever done it to this extent and to these many characters.

Completely agree. Especially the twin brother who got stabbed like crazy and then turned up fine. Especially because it was such a good build up to him dying, too, it felt somewhat cheap.

Nice that you mentioned that part 6 made you appreciate part 5. Here in Italy for the opening night the did an amazing thing (in my local cinema anyway). The did a "scream marathon". They showed Scream 5 and then straight away Scream 6 and I really appreciated that little event. It reminded us what happened in part 5 before showing us the new movie and also it was nice as a "special event" at the cinema. I really enjoyed it! They gifted everyone a poster of Scream 6 as well at the screening. Also, I didnt take the time to tell you, but I actually want to say that you look really nice with the fringe! I think in suits you very well!

my biggest issue with this was no stakes... no one important was killed... and ritchie was not a good ghostface, Amber carried him so to see this as just extension of his lame story was underwhelming. BUT the core fore were even better and some of the set sequences were good, and the opening was solid.

I think Mindy or Gale should have died for the stakes. Tara, Chad and Sam are appereantly our new legacy character remakes. Tara being Gale, Sam being Sidney and Chad being Dewey. Chad and Tara are even dating just like Dewey and Gale. There are definetly alot of similiraties

As sad as I was to not see Sidney make an appearance, I really do think it would’ve felt ridiculous for her to come yet again with the setting being in NYC. I also think her absence really let us get to know the core 4 so much more than we could’ve with her taking up our attention. Scream is forever intertwined with Neve and I hope she comes back for 7, but at some point she deserves her happily ever after and the convoluted reasons for her to keep coming back will just get more and more ridiculous.

Surprised you managed to avoid spoilers for this long! I went opening night to avoid them and was seeing people spoiling the reveal on twitter a day later! This one is definitely a new favorite, especially with the kills. The one issue I have is how they nerfed getting stabbed. Tara got stabbed in the back, then in the shoulder and she was still walking around and Mindy's girl was stabbed in the gut and the knife pulled up and even though she was bleeding a lot, still pretty active.

omg yessss emma! totally agree about the music! i’m honestly so surprised i didn’t hear any other reviewers mention it. the score was okay but the actual songs sounded extremely forced and served no purpose for the scenes and didn’t feel like they were chosen with intent. it felt like a 10 second showcase of the artist when a character was not even really doing anything. it really bothered and took me out of the scenes :/ overall really loved the movie and enjoyed it much more than 5! so happy you did a spoiler review for this and glad you enjoyed it!

IMO the best chapter since the first. Loved it. Courtney Cox is almost unrecognisable - that made me scream. Love the final scenes and humour. Jenna Ortega continues to kill it.

Great job on the review, Emma. I'm going to give "Scream 6" a score of 6/10. I thought it was better than the previous film. Obviously, there is so much to talk about with this film, both pros and cons, but I thought it would be best to just focus on two important (at least to me) things. First off, when we got the early reveal of Jason as Ghostface, I thought to myself, "Bullseye! My theory about a cult of killers is right!" Well of course, that theory was dashed about five minutes later. I still hung on to my theory that Kirby would be the villain, since the tagline "There's never been a killer like me before" initially lead me to the idea of a previous victim becoming the killer. Again, no dice. The second thing is there seems to be a growing trend of previous Scream actors who want to come back in the next sequel. This includes bringing back characters who were previously killed. So far, Parker Posey and Drew Barrymore have mentioned being open to the idea. I can't think of any filmmakers doing anything that horrendous to the franchise. This is why I was not thrilled about Kirby coming back after her "death" in Scream 4. It might start a trend of characters coming back to life and/or creating "alternative timelines".

It's good but way too many people get stabbed and live. Not just live but completely shake it off. It's a horror movie you can kill characters off. I'd give it a 6.5.

I guessed the killers before the movie trailer came out lol seriously I called it completely on Slasher in suits live stream on the trailer night had to be a cop for a start who was able to get hold of all that old evidence of course his daughter would work with him but i thought Ethan was the "missing brother" so got the killers right the only swerve was Richie being the brother. but one big thing i love no one seems to mention we finally got 2 GHOSTFACES ON CAMERA TOGETHER in a scene!

I was born in 1989 and I grew up with Original Scream Trilogy, I saw Scream 1 & 2 on cable tv and Scream 3 I saw for VHS, all 3 movies in 2000. Around same time came Scary Movie (2000) and Scary Movie 2 (2001), saw both for VHS. Scream 4 (2011) I saw in theaters, because I was 22 in 2011 and wanted to see Scream movie in theaters. Scream 5 & 6 I haven't seen.

I gave it a 7 as I did with 5. In many ways I preferred VI, but I liked the final act of the prior film a bit more than this one. Still, I had a lot of fun with it and think the opening is one of the best in the franchise. Here's hoping that if they do make a seventh that they can make amends with Neve Campbell and give her a great role in the story.

Fun movie, but my biggest issue with it is that everyone important lived, so it feels skippable. In the Craven movies, you generally had the main trio survive plus one other character. This one had seven survivors and the only victim who could be said to be an important character was Anika. Three killers and they failed to kill even one person who had anything to do with Richie’s death. The killers just come off as inept. Even Chad lived after being turned into Swiss cheese by two killers. Glad you liked it but for me it just robs the movie of its stakes and danger

I liked this one way more than Scream 5 but I do think they couldve edited a lot. Starting from the begining - that opening sequence was nice, loved the nod to Friday the 13th part 2 (I knew it right after the phone call) but wish they had used Samara's character better, maybe? I dunno scream movies are known to have amazing openers. This one paled in comparison to S5. But the rest of the movie was pretty good. Again very predictable for me. I guessed the killer(s). In fact my family who dont watch scream movies guessed it earlier than I did (yikes). What elevated it for me were the nods to previous scream movies (2 & 4). Wish it had more gore or better choreographed chase scenes - the one with Gale was HORRENDOUS. I think Courtney is a bit too old now for all these shenanigans. Still rooting for Gale and hopefully a return of Sydney in the future. Finally, I love that they brought back Kirby (my fav from S4) and I still hate the main actress (she cant act). Jenna always steals the show. The siblings also were solid. 3.5/5 for me.

This is the second time they've teased the theory that Stu Macher is alive, first one being a blink-and-you'll-miss-it easter egg in Scream 2022. I wonder if they're setting up something for the third film or just messing around. I don't know what the in-universe explanation for him somehow being alive but the public not knowing about it would be. I could see a minor who murders being placed in some sort of identity protection program but he was a high school senior.

This movie was exactly what I wanted. It was different, they for once connected the entire franchise with the shrine/discussing all the other previous killers not just billy and Stu, it actually delivered with the gore unlike 5, loved the new setting that gave us tense sequences/chase sequences, loved the new cast, the returning cast from 5 were great, the opening was very creative which I loved it wasn’t another house opening, ghostface was very scary/brutal in this movie, and the third act was pretty fun as well with having 3 ghostface’s a first for the franchise. Other than some plot holes and some cringey acting in the 3rd act it’s an 8.5/10 just behind the original and scream 2.

It’s definitely similar to Scream 2 but has three killers, none of the siblings dies in the van where their uncle did in the previous Scream, the boyfriend isn’t turn out to be the killer at the end also lived, has way more kills than Scream 2022, love it took place in the big apple of NYC. Radio Silence knows exactly what fans been asking for in Scream films very long time I gave this Scream VI 9/10 way better the previous one last year.

I love how protective you are of Gale oh my god. And she was total business! Awesome scene. Lots of awesome scenes. Super fun, super stabby. Also it’s funny how being the opening kill is an honor. But I hope they cast Samara again as a twin sister because why not. God I love her. And I’m sure they’ll bring back Sidney eventually. Someday. In like Scream 10. I had the same scoring dilemma. Personally, I don't think Sydney should be in the next. If only for a cameo at the end to set up perhaps a new trilogy about her again and her family. It just feels out of place to bring her back into this new group when there's really no reason to. Except maybe for Gale. But I really hope they don't kill her off. And I'm still hoping Dewey isn't really dead and they'll bring him back later as a surprise shock.

I just had so much fun with this film! The cast, the set pieces, the tension building; loved it! Ready for a second viewing! I definitely think this new generation hit their stride in this film. As for Sydney, yeah, the void was there, but at the same time, her presence wouldn’t have necessarily been impactful to the story . It would be kind of cool if she shows up in the next one, though!

I'm starting to feel like I might be in a minority when it comes to this movie 😂 It was definitely better than 5 and I didn't hate it, but for everything I liked there was something I didn't. I was a bit annoyed that Mindy's character wasn't afforded the ending Randy got in his second movie - I really don't buy into her character, it just feels forced to me. Also thought they would drop the whole Sam having visions of her dad thing. And, I know this won't be popular, I'm just finding Gale more annoying than amusing now. I quite like Tara and Sam as new leads but feel like they need better scripts than the past to movies. As it stands I kinda wish they had left the Scream franchise with Wes, BUT I still think there's a good new Scream film to be made but maybe strip it right back instead of trying to make it convoluted.

I think I will always enjoy the charm of the original three more than anything and I felt the tone of the 4th was perfect. I am still really trying to appreciate these last two films more and need to watch them both again back to back alone. The killers are more intense with their violence than the prior ones and I think I have pin pointed that as to why I have been having trouble with it. I still worship this series regardless haha

Glad you are home safe. Is the movie going to get a Japanese Theatrical release at all? I didn't care for the windup when it was mentioned a couple of characters who were obviously killed miraculously survived & a couple more who were seriously injured showed up to shoot the 💩 and celebrate. Total copout.
