One of the greatest vampire movies of all time . I only wish there could have been many more .

Scream blackula scream, was good, but blackula was a lot more scarier, I first saw it in the mid seventies when I was in my early teens, it scared the crap out of me, today Iam 58 and thinking about certain scenes still gives me the shivers.

Count Yorga vs Blacula! Now that's a film I'd want to see!

I saw Scream, Blacula, Scream in an all black movie theater. It was a double billing with Sugar Hill, which was pretty creepy in its own right. It was an interesting time for genre films back in the 70’s. Blaxploitation and Kung Fu films were advertised on the radio as much as the major motion pictures. I thought Scream, Blacula, Scream was the first film. But I saw Blacula on an independent channel on television. William Marshall outstanding as Prince Mamuwalde, a man who became enslaved by Count Dracula. And he was even more deadlier than Dracula. The scene where Willis says to the rag man, “I ain’t afraid of no power!” You know right away that he is someone who is willing to do anything to get what he wants. No matter what the cost. I will be looking for the Blu-Ray of these classics.

@@nicholasjanke3476 Blacula borrowed a couple of scenes from Count Yorga, Vampire. The scene of the docked freighter and Yorga’s helper loading his coffin into the truck and the truck driving on the streets.

One question: In the second Blacula when Blacula is revived in the opening scenes, where did Blacula's clothes come from?? 1. Did he find another black suit in the mansion? 2. Were his clothes stashed away along with the bones?

Good questions. I wondered this myself.

I will try and answer that question. The same question could be asked of Christopher Lee’s Hammer Dracula series. I believe that because Dracula is a force of evil, evil has a uniform. It is the same thing with Blacula. But Prince Mamuwalde was wearing that same tuxedo before Dracula turned him. Mamuwalde probably wore a cape, as well.

Thank you! I was just thinking about the Lee/Hammer Dracula having the same thing happen to them, as if his garments are sacred enough to be part of his being.....or that the censors and scriptwriters looked for an easy way out. I suppose "suspension of disbelief" is required to just move past this anomaly.

Believe it or not, there was a black vampire film simply called Black Vampire. It was a weird film and it much was made for the gore.

Richard Lawson did three good horror films-Blacula 2 (not as good or scary as the first one but still very entertaining), Sugar Hill, and Poltergeist.

Blacula film series was unusual in that the vampire characters are given emotional depth, rather than just typical one note villains as in Universal and Hammer. Heck Blacula even commits suicide and attempts to cure himself in the series! Interestingly in the second Blacula, an exorcism is performed on Blacula and in the horror film Abby William Marshall plays a character performing an exorcism.

i wish we could make movies similar to this instead of those dumb humanizing scripts we've been given, these directors and producers are straight out of touch with the audience. i would give them a thumbs down, ebert & siskel style.
