I'd like to point out the stark differences between how Buster and Crystal perform auditions, and how they view performance; Buster, for all his flaws, legitimately loves the art of music and stage-craft. His auditions were in a brightly lit theatre open to everyone, and he almost always had a smile on his face. Crystal, on the other hand, only cares about what makes him look good, and his auditions were in a dark room with him expecting immediate perfection. And my favourite detail is Buster's face when Crystal hits the horn. I doubt, no matter how bad he thought someone's act was, that he ever interrupted it before it was finished.

I know Jimmy Crystal is the villain, but I can understand some of what's going on in this scene. Some acts he had a good reason for refusing. The ducklings and tarsier were singing inappropriate songs, the herons and magic acts were safety hazards, the horse heavily imitated Adele, etc. Plus, Buster DID give everyone who auditioned a chance, but given how close he was to losing his theater, that choice may have been more pragmatic than people think. He listened to everyone because he couldn't afford to miss out on a good performance. With Jimmy, his theater is successful worldwide. He probably gets tons of auditions all the time. He most likely gets so many he has to have high standards. Standards that come from seeing so many performances. You probably become a little jaded after a while.

Yeah, Buster wasn't the best guy himself, but even when the animals auditioning were as shy as Meena, he still gave them a chance and was patient to see them start and then finish EVEN while knowing he had so many people waiting in line to come in next.

So many auditions and submissions get sent in to people everyday and they're looking for what's gonna make them look good and you never know how desperate the person is that you're sending it in to. And as the years go on, there's eventually going to be a point where we want new performers to STOP copying someone else's work, much like how he rejected the horse who straight up imitates Adele in the voice. Whether it's someone looking for a potential A-Lister or for anyone who's talented enough to save your own career, it's a tough world to work for and you can spend hours waiting in line and years practicing before you get that very first "Yes."

@jordankrzywicki9412 I disagree with the rejection of the Taiko drums and ballet. Ballet, the art form that it is, could use a MASSIVE publicity revival, and Jimmy Crystal could've been the name that made ballet great and affordable in the minds of the public. Taiko music is practically unheard of in the Anglosphere, but it is unlike anything present in the music industry, and it would be another excellent way of showing off Japanese culture to the West! Is Taiko loud? Yes. But that's the point. It was made to be loud so as to command armies, and Taiko performances are about the sort of primal yet unique and exhilarating artistry of music made from these unique drums. The mare, for me, could've succeeded if Illumination Studios hadn't chosen a meme for her, and instead, used a song of Adele's that really showed off her range, like Rolling in the Deep, or Skyfall.

I did get the impression that she genuinely enjoyed their show and that she wanted to keep their little theater “untainted” from Crystal ‘s more or less criminal business. Of course she probably suspected that the show wouldn’t be her boss’s cup of tea either but while I could be completely wrong I believe that the main reason she acted the way she did was her trying to protect Buster and his crew.
