We can't really say that Agatha is a hero because we don't know what her plans are with Wanda's powers. The real hero of the show is Monica Rambeau, she wanted to help Wanda and that's what she did up until the very end. Give her the recognition she deserves :))
@TheBlackSaint2 жыл бұрын
Yes, there are three powerful women in the series for a reason, I think. Monica is the overtly heroic character, whose personal grief inspires her but never breaks her. Agatha is the overtly villainous character, who wants to exploit Wanda’s grief/powers, and Wanda is more the anti-hero. She doesn’t deliberately hurt anyone but she also doesn’t do anything specifically heroic. (I’ve compared Wanda to the savage Hulk.)
@FelixArizmendi5552 жыл бұрын
@@TheBlackSaint I think the same, I think that few give Monica credit, she really put herself in Wanda's shoes and tried to understand the pain of a loss, something that few stop to think about, many reproach her for the dialogue of "They will not know what you sacrificed for them", but knowingly it is in the sense that Wanda did not want to cause harm, but she obtained a reality in which she was finally happy, but she decided to undo it so that people no longer suffer, and seeing who the dialogue came from, yes that I can understand.

I agree that Wanda is the main villain but I can’t give Agatha the “hero” tag. A hero doesn’t have to be 100% selfless, but there does have to be some sense of altruism in what they do. Yes, Tony let his ego get the best of him by creating Ultron, but he ultimately wanted to protect the world from outside threats. Strange Supreme might’ve destroyed his universe (understatement I know), but he did it to try and save someone’s life. Agatha has NO selfless goals in this show at all. Her mentality is “hey this witch in Jersey is super powerful. I need to take her power and become the most powerful witch.” She has no concern about the people Wanda’s torturing. When Wanda makes her think she’s given her her power, you can tell she was obviously gonna destroy Wanda and leave Westview without a second thought for the people. Where’s the heroism in that? Agatha’s clearly someone who had her humanity and belief in others ripped away when her own coven, the people she loved and trusted the most, tried to freaking KILL her. Can you imagine your own mother telling you you can’t be a good person? Traumatizing indeed. Since then, her whole mentality is getting more powerful at any cost (“I take power from the undeserving, it’s kinda my thing.”) If people die, they die. Makes for an entertaining as hell character to watch, but not a hero.
@jagnestormskull31783 жыл бұрын
Agreed. Monica and pals (I'm including Vision in this) were the heroes.
@andersonarigoni2843 жыл бұрын
I kinda understand Tony's initiative, but he was also selfish by start doing something without his partners knowing it (because he knew they would disagree). Strange Supreme was absolutely and unquestionable SELFISH. He literally abused of his powers to absorb other beings, and was warned several times that what he was seeking was unbearable. Strange Supreme situation is lots of times worst then what Agatha, Wanda or Tony did. I understand he was consumed by grief, but he literally destroyed a whole universe just 'cause he couldn't handle his feelings. He also alternated several timelines by absorbing other creature's powers. He knew all of his consequences, but still did what he did. While Agatha barely hurt people. She knew what she was doing, and she have been studying magic for ages, so she had in mind that such a rough stop at Wanda's reality could break hundreds of people's mind. I wouldn't call her a hero too, but she's as anti-hero as Wanda is
@jagnestormskull31783 жыл бұрын
@@andersonarigoni284 But Agatha wasn't trying to foil Wanda, she was trying to take her power. There's no evidence that she cared about Westview's residents at all outside of her schemes. Happening to have plans that conflict with the plans of a villain doesn't make you a hero or an anti-hero. An anti-hero is just a hero who does the dirty deeds that other heroes don't want to do. Agatha's plans weren't heroic at all. Sure, she believed that she could control the power of the Scarlet Witch better. But what was she going to use that power for? Is Vandal Savage an anti-hero because he fought off Starro the Conqueror?
@godemperorofmankind3.0913 жыл бұрын
im fairly sure Agatha did some fucked up things before that to warrant her mother trying to off her. they mention breaking the rules, delving in dark magic etc. she probably murdered fools while doing sick magical experiments on them
@icefire66223 жыл бұрын
Except that's not entirely true. There is a selfless goal; protecting the Universe from the destruction of the Scarlet Witch. Is she egotistical and selfish, and does want to use this new power source? Sure. But she also knows that Wanda is a risk to the universe. She really is similar to characters like Stark, or Strange Supreme. She has selfish goals, but she also has selfless ones. In fact I'd argue she's more of a hero than Strange Supreme, because she cares about the universe, and the protection of it. Her mentality might be "to get power at any cost" but at least in this circumstance, it was also to stop the rise of the being that has the power to end the universe.
@JohnFoley17013 жыл бұрын
I believe that wanda was delusional for most of the show and agatha’s motives were ultimately self serving. I wouldn’t go so far as to call either of them the hero. The heroes were the people on the outside trying to stop/save wanda from herself. The villains were the people who wanted to kill/take advantage of her. Wanda is more like the shark in Jaws or the tornado in Twister in this situation.

I think it is too far to call Agatha a hero since all her actions were purely selfish. She didn't care if people were being hurt and wasn't trying to save them. Even if Agatha's 'therapy session' with Wanda did help her and ultimately lead to the release of the townspeople. Agatha was attracted to power and she had found the most powerful and dangerous being in the universe. She didn't want to destroy it she wanted it for herself. There's no telling what she would have done with the powers of the Scarlet Witch. But whatever it would have been it wouldn't have been good for anyone but herself (at least not intentionally). In the future Wanda would make an excellent villain because we have seen her capacity for good and how that has been tested and maybe destroyed. It all depends on perspective. To Wanda, Tony Stark was the villain of her childhood his weapons took her family from her. But Tony Stark did eventually create the thing she loves most- Vision. And that is MOST people that end up doing bad things. Once in awhile, you'll get someone who is truly evil and plans to be evil from the get-go, but that's rare, most often it's one-baby-step-at-a-time, so you need to watch those steps. Though her actions were incidentally helpful, I think it's a stretch to think Agatha was being intentionally heroic. She had the power to free individuals from Wanda's control. She could easily have evacuated a good number of people without Wanda noticing, but she showed no indication of caring about their well-being, and actively manipulated some of them on top of Wanda's torture. She handled the threat of SWORD soldiers by picking them up in the air and, while they were helpless, would have let them fall to their deaths, while Wanda's strategy was to mind-control them out of threatening her, then leave without hurting anyone. Agatha's primary motive seemed to be self-empowerment. She was willing to hurt innocent people and steal other witches' power to benefit herself, while Wanda hurt people unintentionally because she was too distracted by her personal struggle to think about the needs of others, who she would normally go out of her way to protect.

YES! THANK YOU, RYAN! Finally someone covered this lol. The *only* time that Agatha actually *acted* like a villain, was when she learned that Wanda was actually indeed the next incarnation of the Scarlet Witch. And then once she learned of this, she instantly took action to restrain Wanda. Now, she obviously isn't a hero. She is not going to be a part of the next team of Avengers, but she also didnt seem like a straight up villain. When Agatha's original coven had tried to kick her out, she didn't actually try to harm her fellow witches until they took action on her. She was just a naive person who wanted to learn as much as she could, and she wanted the power that would come with that knowledge. This is why she originally took the Darkhold, she knew that power lied within the Darkhold and wanted to gain that power. And this is why she was drawn to Wanda, because she sensed the powerful magic coming from Westview. She wanted to learn of the source of this, and then wanted to take that source of power for herself. That is obviously something that a hero would not do, but it also does not automatically make her evil. Tony Stark created Ultron because he was curious of the power of the Mind Stone, and wanted to protect the world. He created a villain from his own hubris, but he did not mean too. That does not mean that Tony is a villain himself. This was the same case with Agatha. She did not actually do anything evil until she was pushed to do so, and she actually restrained and soothed Wanda at times and tried to actually stop Wanda from fully becoming the Scarlet Witch. So, like I initially said. Agatha isn't necessarily a villain, but she also isn't a hero.

"She condemns poor Agatha to a life of torment cause she wanted to stop her from destroying the world" Well, what Wanda knew was that Agatha was willing to use her children against her and hurt her children, play with her emotions with a fake Pietro and she was willing to at least injure, maybe kill the soldiers and she called the townspeople "meat puppets". She also told Wanda that she and her spell "will always be broken", and that regarding Wanda's power, she wanted "more" and "all of it" like she was power hungry, so from Wanda's point of view, it was very difficult to see Agatha as any kind of hero and very easy to see her as a villian. An outsider might see it differently, and Dr. Strange might see it differently, though I have a tough time seeing Strange as being OK with Agatha having Wanda's power. I don't see how Wanda could have seen it any other way, though in hindsight she might realize that Agatha did teach her, Agatha's last minute plea to her "you have no idea what you've done" and "I can help" was too little too late. She played the role of villian to Wanda.

There are one person in the Marvel Comic Universe, that brain prisons people like Wanda did in this show. And that is Morganna Le Fey Dr. Strange's Arch-enemy. I highly doubt he is okay, with Wanda first enslaving a population of a city, and then AFTER she has learn of the torture it is for the victims, she does it to Agatha. Which I might add are immortal, so she is doomed trapped inside this "character" for the rest of eternity. No sorry there is no scenario where Wanda is remotely heroic.

Agatha was in no way a hero. She tortured wanda by showing her the worse parts of her life, kidnapped ralph bohner. For all we know, she probably wanted the powers to creat her own hex, as she never had interest in wanda until then. Her hex would probably MUCH bigger then wandas. She even backstabbed wanda in the end saying she lied about giving wanda her own personal hex afterwards, she tried to manipulate her to get her powers for herself, not much a hero.

The problem with this theory is that it's disproven by the show itself. Agatha didn't care about anyone except herself. She had every intention of keeping the Hex up as soon as she'd drained Wanda of her chaos magic and rabbited ("You’re clearly in over your little red head. So, why don’t you surrender your magic to someone who knows what to do with it? And I’ll let you keep this pathetic little corner of the world all to yourself. What do you say?"). She disrupted other heroes' efforts to get through to Wanda (sending Bohner over just as Vision was about to get through to her, and dragging Wanda away from Monica), and she drove a wedge between Wanda and Vision so that she could strike when Wanda was at her most vulnerable.

About the ethical implications of mind controllling an entire town, I also cant blame her bc she simply doesnt know any better, her whole life was misery, she doesnt know, she cant know why thats wrong. She just feels every time she has something similar to hapiness, it turns to shit. She wasnt in grief only bc of vision... She lost her parents, she was lied by the hydra and became a lab rat, she was controlled by ultron, she lost her brother, she was blamed for lagos when she actually did her best and after that was a criminal, she lost vision twice and after endgame no1 thought she needed help like daam, not even clint. Always assumed that Agatha was trying to protect someone…at first, her contemporary coven, but later, the townsfolk (and the world). Never thought that her actions were totally evil and self-serving. Agatha thinking that she was protecting reality from Wanda ties up several plot threads, allows her character redemption, etc. Thanks for expressing this in a way that I never could (as usual)!

@@JB_Eckl No, Ryan makes a great argument that Wanda was wrong and that Agatha approached her with lots of caution and intelligence. But none of that makes Agatha a hero. Agatha makes it really clear the reason for everything she did was that she wanted Wanda's power for herself. She wasn't there to save the world or protect reality or rescue anybody. She wanted more power and Wanda had it. Neither of them are heroes.
@MagiusDel3 жыл бұрын
@@turnerjazz7872 It's also clear that Agatha is no more morally sound than Wanda throughout the series - and unlike Wanda, doesn't have the excuse of losing control in a moment of pure grief. Sure, she does start with a soft touch and you can argue that what she did to Sparky, Hex!Vision, and Wanda's kids was fair game because they were mental projections made with Wanda's power (never mind that, within the hex, they were just as real as anyone else - and had just as much free will as Agatha herself did) - but how was what she did to Ralph Bohner any different than what Wanda was doing to the rest of the town? So, while I will fully agree that Agatha was, overall, a force for good rather than evil throughout the series, it was much more a side effect of her approach to achieving her goals than her goals being at all heroic. She wasn't there to stop Wanda, even at the end - she was there to steal Wanda's power (either through learning it, which would likely have avoided the confrontation entirely, or by using her power to absorb magic to directly steal it from Wanda), and that was it. Still better than Hayward, who directly triggered the entire thing by trying to emotionally manipulate Wanda into repairing Vision (though I seriously doubt he predicted the creation of the hex), but really, not by much.
@MagiusDel3 жыл бұрын
@@23Raind That is exactly why I don't necessarily see Agatha as THE villain in the story (heck, there are three - Agatha, who is seeking the power for herself, Director Hayward who is seeking a way to make his version of Vision work, and Wanda herself, who despite not intending harm and not being aware of what she was doing was doing a tremendous amount of harm to those around her). Heck, if Agatha's motives were pure and not self serving, I would have no problem with seeing her as a hero antagonist - but, at the end of the day, she was doing what she was doing to accumulate more power for herself. Not to free the citizens that Wanda had control over (and, remember, Agatha herself robbed Ralph Bohner of his free will, so Agatha's not exactly on the moral high ground there), not to help Wanda overcome her trauma and set things right herself (even if that is what she ended up doing in the end), but to grab more power for herself. So, no, she may not be an out and out villain in this story, but she is definitely far from being a hero.
@MagiusDel3 жыл бұрын
@@23Raind Except, that wasn't her goal. As far as Agatha was concerned, the hex was someone else's problem. If it collapsed as she was taking Wanda's power? That's fine, and if not? Well, that's OK too - Agatha gets what she wants either way, and at the end of the day, that's all she cared about. And, at the end of the day, it is that callousness, that uncaring attitude about what happened to anyone else that keeps her from being the hero in the story - no matter how much good her actions may have actually caused. If everything played out the way she had planned, she's the only one that would have been better for it. Sure, under ideal circumstances no one would have come out the worse (well, maybe with Wanda sharing a secret or two she wanted to keep to herself) - but everyone else would have been just as stuck in the hex as if she'd done nothing at all. Granted, that doesn't make her a villain per se - after all, she really didn't mean anyone any harm until she figured out that literally the only way she was going to be able to get at all that juicy power was to literally drain it from Wanda (and likely kill her along the way). But it's a big step to take from a character just being neutral toward the harm being done and actively trying to stop that harm - and there's nothing in the series that indicates Agatha even gave half a hoot about what happened to anyone other than herself.

Multiple times through wandavision she would deny what was going on just to live the fantasy she always wanted. She was aware she was holding people captive but forced it out of mind so she didn't have to worry about it. She only felt remorse when she was physically watching herself cause harm. Self realization is a powerful thing and ultimately was enough to snap her out of that little daze she was in. I can acknowledge that she helped Wanda in a way. However I don’t think she was truly a hero, she was trying to get Wanda’s powers and trying to stop Wanda sure but we don’t really know what her plan with the power was. We don’t know what Agatha wanted to do.

Wanda is exactly like Elsa in Frozen, tho if you keep the comparison up, Hans is much more of a bad guy than Agatha and it clearly shows, Hans just wants power out of pure jealousy and arrogance whereas Agatha is driven by curiosity, Hans didn't care about the people of Arrendel, Agatha did
@gregxianda3 жыл бұрын
This does make an excellent point. Agatha was trying to help Wanda while Wanda just wanted to keep going with her sitcom life. Plus Agatha in the comics wasn't a villain, the Fantastic 4 went to her for help to keep Sue and Reid's son safe and she even protected them. So I believe the wrong person won in Wandavision. Soon we'll experience a multiverse of madness.

I appreciate your argument. You took time to research when I didn't. Marvel is definitely casting her in a villainous light. In DS2, she faces the consequences from "WandaVision", but because we know her struggle, the audience will be more willing to forgive her. As for Agnes, I like your points on her just trying to exist. I especially was intrigued how you introduced the concept of Dark Magic being able to circumvent Nature. The scene with Agnes in front of the "Natural "Squeeky Clean"" cleanser billboard seemed like it had a profound easter egg.

I rewatched the last two episodes of WandaVision last night and realized Agatha may be more of an antihero than a villain. 1) She was a mentor, not villain in the comic. In their “battle” she was still teaching Wanda about witchcraft. 2) She’s getting her own show, which would likely give us more insight into her character and relationship towards Wanda. 3) In a weird way, she was preventing Wanda from wreaking more havoc. She has the highest power in the universe and is nearly oblivious to how to use it, versus Agatha who has been mentored to and studying the power for centuries. Oddly this pops up on my suggest videos and confirms everything I was thinking.

I still think Wanda OR Agatha (learned how to do it) helped create the TVA. Because I can't think of any other way it can exist outside of time. Loki said 'I thought there was no magic here' even he knew it must have been conjured up. Also it has a vintage aesthetic which Wanda likes because of old tv shows. My theory anyway. Also makes sense how the variants are just controlled and trapped like Westview playing 'their part'. I'm definitely going to rewatch Wandavision for more clues.
@icefire66223 жыл бұрын
the TVA was created by TOWR. It was invented to protect his "sacred timeline" from his variants, one of which is Kang the Conqueror. There's no reason to think that either of them were involved in creating something that was kinda already explained. TOWR has the knowledge to create devices that can delete timelines. Its seems like creating a timeless place wouldn't be that difficult.
@Natta443 жыл бұрын
@@icefire6622 I'm allowed to theorise. I know Kang created the TVA which was explained in the show. But I find so many aspects interesting like the runes in the timekeepers chamber which block magic use. Also what the nightmare department is etc. It just makes me wonder theres more to the TVA than they let on. If it's all just advanced science then that's equally fine, just mind blowing to me if that's the case. It seems to be pointing to the Quantum realm which wouldn't be surprising, but I like the idea of at least one of the witches being involved.

I hope in the Agatha series, they build on this, because I have felt that way as well, that she really wasn't the villain. Wanda may have not done it intentionally, but she held an entire town hostage. That is pretty evil anyway you look at it.

We don't know specifically what Agatha's previous actions are that were summarized as "practicing dark magic". For all we know she could have left lifeless husks here and there before the group attempts to execute her. It seems that she lured the coven into her trap, knowing that once they unleashed power on her she could drain them. Any surprise she showed when she started to overpower the coven was probably because it actually worked, since up until then she'd only drained one witch at a time.

Yea I think the same Agatha literally sucked magic out her of basically her family and almost took wanda’s magic too I think she just wanted power and if it was true what Agatha said about the scarlet witch in the dark hold than she would have took the scarlet witches power and probably would of fulfilled the destiny of the scarlet witch to destroy the world. That’s just what I think idk I really like Wanda and her powers she might of been a little villainous but she really didn’t do any of that on purpose she felt bad when she was choking the citizens of went view so I think the main bad person in Wanda vision was Agatha but at the end idk Just what I think.

Nah I don’t agree, Wanda is definitely a villain in the series, but the fact that Agatha stood up against her doesn’t mean she did it for the right reasons, she wants her power, the only reason she didn’t do evil in the same scope as Wanda is because she isn’t powerful enough. She’s like Strange Supreme? Well, he’s a villain who literally erased his universe because of grief.
@zopeace92092 жыл бұрын
I can see that in the grand scheme of things but Agatha used heroic tactics for selfish means. Agatha wanted wanda's power from the start. Wanda unconciously made the hex (pushed by her emotions) hence why she didn't know how she created it; She didnt even know she was a witch using magic. This explains why wanda mainly used telekinesis early on; she didn't know all she was capable of. Granted wanda may have done bad things but she didn't really know who she is. She went from being a villian to a hero to finding out that she is the fabled scarlet witch. Wandavision was more of wanda slowly accepting not just her reality but her identity.

Nope. You’re entire premise is based on the assumption that Wanda is a villain and therefore her primary foe must be the good guy. Just because Wanda is the villain doesn’t mean that Agatha is the good guy. There can be two bad guys in a story. Consider all the mafia gangs that fight over power. She’s not evil because she killed a fake dog. She killed her own mother. Why did she kill her mother? To take her power. And again, you’re falling into the same assumption that because she was being persecuted, her foes were villains. We don’t know that. We don’t know enough about Agatha’s story to discern with certainty who was good or bad in that relationship. Comparing her to Tony and Strange does not make her a good person. Tony’s curiosity was not without problems, which you eluded to early in the video when he created Ultron. And I’m willing to bet Strange’s use of his powers has similar consequences in Spider-Man No Way home, and he becomes a kind of villain in that story while simultaneously kicking off the multiverse of madness. My point is a curios person does not a good person make. In your argument, you never present any evidence that Agatha’s motives are altruistic. You only present Agatha’s motive to protect her own reality. Why should I assume that reality is a good one? Again, a gang encroaching on another gang’s area threatens their reality as the dominant power, that does not make either gang good.

If indeed Agatha wanted to stop Wanda from destroying the multiverse, who's to say that Agatha wouldn't have tried to do the same thing later on? Remember, even Wanda can't fathom the limits of her abilities--granted to her by the god of chaos Cthon--and she's off in a secluded cabin somewhere consuming the Darkhold and increasing in power. If Agatha did manage to get Wanda's powers, she could likely be consumed by her pain and grief.

1:09 : can we please keep in mind she was unnaware of what she'd done at first, Because thats how it was :/ She had her limit and exploded. She started realizing she was in control with the helicopter and Rombeau :/ She's far from a vilain. You ca also see she panicked after choking everyone, because she did not know what she was doing. Agatha didn't mean to protect anyone. Maybe at the end, when she realised Wanda is the Scarlet witch, but until then all she cared about is how to get more power for herself. I wouldn't say Agatha is straight up vilain (the show didn't realy have any actualy vilains), but she's far too selfish and uncaring to be called a hero. Some comments are pointing out that Agatha could have attacked Wanda when she was the most vulnerable (which arguably she actualy did), but at first all Agatha knew was Wanda had power far beyond anything she knew and was mentaly unstable. There was no telling when Wanda would snap or what she would do when she does.
