Asgard's destruction happened in the beginning of Infinity War. Remember in Thor Ragnarok when Thor and Loki meet Odin, he said Odin: *"Asgard is a people not a place"*

But Thor still brought about the end. Say Thor hadn't interfered. Thanos would have eventually made it to Asgard, killed Hela , taken the stone and killed half the people but the other half would still be on Asgard and would just slowly rebuild the population, maintaining their culture and traditions etc... instead of being absorbed into someone else's. Not to mention, she just straight up followed Thor and Loki to Asgard in the first place. He didn't lead them to Hel, he lead Hel to them
