Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z
EDITING - We upgraded our editing suite this year and we’re glad we did! This has improved our workflow and the quality of our work. Having new software also helps when we have a problem, it’s easy to search and find a solution - goo.gl/56LnpM

I grew up watching hand-drawn cartoons and it's a beautiful and magical part of my life. Lion King, especially, touched my heart. Finding Nemo also made me cry. Some artists now are combining CG and hand-drawn/painted animation like Arcane and it is a Masterpiece.! I think, what matters most is the story that touches lives ,old school or advanced art. Art is art and all artists invest their soul in their creation. Evolution/change will eventually happen but no one can take away what Disney contributed in the imagination of kids before. Embrace change but never forgetting that special magic touch in hand drawn art.😊

I love this guy. I'll bet his fun, positive attitude and his wonderful laugh had something to do with all of his "rare" opportunities. Of course he must be pretty talented, too. Great interview! This is my second listen.

Yes but no. The only way is to write screenplays but also educate yourself on writing screenplays at the same time... Which is why this channel exists.

1:54:25 "Slapsticky like 'Fawlty Towers'" 🙂 1:59:50 "One of the funniest shows ever made" (12 episodes). 🙂 Agreed, 'Fawlty Towers' was one of the great shows from the UK. Also: 'Still Game', 'Fresh Fields/French Fields', 'May to December', 'Rosemary & Thyme' (mystery comedy), and several others. They had some fantastic writers and cast. The dialogue seemed to check most of the boxes. Didn't think I'd watch 3 hours of this video (I did skip over a bit here & there). But it's interesting and all are appreciated. The 2nd half of this interview is especially helpful for me. Thank you. 🙂

I'm a professional artist on the side as well as having a regular job. I always wanted to be an actor and had a half arsed attempt at chasing after it. Now in my mid 40s I've decided to start trying to write screenplays. I find myself saying "why didn't they have them do this, or that here. Why didn't they do that for an extra twist. Why didn't they do this here to add extra drama and hardship to the protagonist". So I've decided to take the plunge and try. This channel has been an extra push for me. Especially hearing guys like this with similar artistic mindset. Can't help having a fair bit of life experience before trying... I hope.

1:10:20 Screenwriters should take an acting class. It will help you write better lines. 1:11:25 "In my head, I try to assign a voice for each character" 1:12:45 Writer - act it out, see if it works; dialogue that would be true to the character and not be too expositional; if it doesnt work, change the character's voice.

Great interview. The issue with Lion King was not CG, but writing and art direction.

Bone Tomahawk and Glengarry, Glen Ross are two of my favourite dialogue heavy/driven films. Mammet though is one of the masters of deep, long speeches. And yes, I know he didn't write Bone Tomahawk.

"..apparently Southern is the easiest accent to learn..." Is it though? Because I see tons of bad Southern accents on movies and TV. And the first mistake is calling it a "Southern accent" when in reality there are several variations of accent and dialect throughout the South. For instance, a Virginian accent is very different from the Georgia/Tennessee/Alabama, the Carolinas have their own variances, and Texas is different from all the rest. Just a thought, from someone who is not Southern, but lived and traveled there a lot.

Love the start of this interview though, because I spent most of my childhood drawing. I also liked to "play" alone, reenacting my favorite shows and movies in our house. My mom witnessed many Star Wars duels, Batman fights, TMNT fights, and military battles in our living room, hallway and bedrooms throughout my days away from school.

Well, I guess people call it a southern accent for convenience sake, same thing with the Brits, their are a crazy amount of variations, but people normally just say "English accent" and to be fair.... Some southern accents do just sound over the top, or fake, but are actually 100% accurate, same thing with the Brits.

Why does the script have to adapt to the actor and not the other way around? After all isn't it the actor's job to bring life to the script in only a way that he knows how to do? You illustrated that point using Peter Cushing as an example.
