I know the wiha are made from good German steel with some pride behind it. I like wiha or klein American made screwdrivers. With proper use they can last a lifetime. I use my wiha screwdrivers every day at work and home and they have certainly inspired confidence. You get what you pay for most of the time in this world. Great video!

Nice video. I was on the way to buy Felo after seeing our electrician using them, and trying them on to see how they feel. The soft handle felt great, though it was dirty. Should say this is what impressed me with Felo. I thought handle was because most of the electrician's tools are dirty, but now start to change my mind. The tools in your cabinet were such a high quality, and so well maintained and organized, that I would say you have the nicest tools I have ever seen.

Great brands, the first and I will say best screw driver to me was the old Felo screw driver that was shipped as a car tool in many German car brands like BMW, Mercedes and Opel. My colleague was using is often as a chisel then I realised that this is pretty good screw driver for the torture that it gets and still works the handle was plastic poly propylene and I remember that it looked to me as a single pole screwdriver. Obviously, because of the hammering, the blade went deep into the handle. I am happy that I managed to salvage this screwdriver and now I am a big fan of their products. I also have Wiha set, respect for them as well but to me, Felo Frico and Ergonic are the best.

I don't abuse my tools either but people who occasionally borrow them have. The wiha have been proven to be extremely reliable. I have a bunch of different types and none of them are wearing down. I like using orange clean when there really bad. It's a little aggressive to use and will wear off the letters if you use it all the time. The best way to keep them looking good is to wipe after use. Great video and much appreciated

I got a box of Felo drill bits and even with a 18V drill, you can't harm these bits. They are insanely strong. On the other hand though, I needed a replacement for a false delivery and Felo not only replaced the false delivery but also gave me a free Ergonic PH2 screwdriver with it. Pretty cool service. But I got exactly the same tip strength problem that you're showing here. I've used the screwdriver for assembling one table and it already looks banged up to the point that I would usually not use it anymore. Pretty wierd...

In my opinion, the handles are much much too small on many sizes of the Frico line... super clumsy manufacturing if you ask me. If you want the pound through handle that come in the 550 series of the Frico line, I myself much prefer Wiha's pound through handle, or Wera Chiseldrivers are even better (Wera was in Germany, now Czech Republic... if anything the quality has only gotten better since they moved the factory). I work at a company that distributes Felo, Wera, Wiha, and even Witte via. Knipex. The only 2 felo lines that made the cut for me are Felo's smart handle w/ applicable blades including part# 52037 which makes a good bit-drive if needed (their smart handle is basically a screw-driver & a T-handle in one... very cool engineering there), and their other very well performing product is a bit-driver that magnetically holds 7 bits in the handle and gives great torque, balance, and ergonomics (not the ratcheting version though). The bit-driver I often use as my backup when I temporarily misplace my real screwdriver in a given size. This bit-driver is #5227/5229/ or 52769 w/ part# 52037 used in the blade, but the blade has to be modified slightly to lock in the handle properly, and it also works as a 7" extension in a drill is the main reason I prefer to do the mod... if you want to be lazy, #52221 or #52765 are what you want. Other than that Felo is totally a dud as far as I am concerned... their Ergonic series seems nice, but they simply don't function well because they are far too soft and too gripy for regrip between turns, which is slow in comparison to Wera for example and the soft handle actually flexes with the torque making turns less efficient still. The best performing product for a 1-pc screwdriver I would give to Wera over Wiha in general, but not for all sizes, and Wera's quality is much better in the details. Wiha is a far more innovative company that puts their efforts more into design than quality, but their quality is also excellent w/ the exception of their driver bits. Wera is sort of a boring company in terms of design, but at the same time their performance is unparalleled for the basics. Wera's square drivers for example hold up 10 or 20x as long as Wiha's square screwdrivers or bits because Wera does a hollow grind that is very different and it is easier on screws too... on several occasions I have accidentaly used the wrong side of my #1/#2 double end driver (Wera, Vario series blade), and I have used that #1 driver to drive a #2 drive screw w/o damaging the screw or the driver... try doing that w/ any other brand! My favorite product from Wiha for low to mid-torque applications is their drive-lok 6 series (6 meaning 6mm shaft), and that is probably because they take up very little space in the Veto Pro-pak, and you basically have a stuby and standard length screwdriver in one tool that is double-sided, so 4 tools in 1 w/o sacrificing blade length. Wiha also makes great pliers very close in quality to Knipex. When it comes to precision screwdrivers, there is no comparison whatsoever... the winner is Wera by a landslide. When it comes to driver bit quality, the winner is Wera by a landslide. When it comes to ergonics of basic screwdrivers like what is shown in this video, it's pretty much a toss up for me between Wera and Wiha, and my preference is on a size by size basis and I prefer different series so each screwdriver is very easy to spot, but I'm leaning towards Wera just slightly. If I had to pick one or the other, I'd pick Wera in either there basic Kraftform green and black or their yellow chiseldriver series... both are very well balanced and exceptionally functional. For higher torque applications, all my tools go to Felo because that smart handle is hard to beat because the torque is there if you need it, and often times I do (torx and nut-drivers just gotta be Felo Smart series Blades esp. in larger sizes, and a bonus is you can always put them in a drill which saves crazy amounts of time). In my Veto Pro-pac toolbag here's what I keep: Wiha Drive-Lok for Phillips, Robertson, and Metric Hex, Felo Smart handle + blades for Nut-drivers 7/16"-9/16" and all torx, Wera and Wiha Screwdrivers for slotted on a size by size basis (I've owned them all except I could tell Witte wasn't a contender), and Wera micro screwdrivers for T4, T6, T8, PH0, PH1, and in Micro slotted I go with Wera's micro ESD-safe series not because I am worried about static electricity, but because I prefer my tools to be identifiable by color, so I keep all my slotted yellow in the precision drivers. For small sizes that I only use once in a blue moon I keep Wiha micro bits... they suck to use, but they don't take up any space, so it's easy to have all the less common drives w/o taking up all the room standard drivers would need. For pliers: in this order, Knipex red-handle, Wiha red-handle, NWS, and don't even think about buying Felo when it comes to pliers... not much better than China! For powertools, Festool and Metabo are great German brands well worth the extravagant prices they get for their stuff. For anyone more mobile, consider grabbing a Veto Pro-Pac... made in China, but the quality and organization is probably the best out there. I've owned multiple sizes, but the OT-XL is what I'd recommend... a closed top bag is such a pain that it's hard to describe and if you go bigger than the XL (like I did on my first purchase) you probably won't be able to comfortably carry the thing... whatever you get, grab an open top unless you do more traveling than working. These are great because every tool has it's place... if a tool wasn't put away, you'll know exactly what you're missing. Also, I couldn't do much of the work I do w/o a good headlamp. My favorite is the Surefire Maximus... if the Minimus were rechargable I like the minimus better, but the battery life and cost of batteries just isn't worth the extra comfort... I got used to the Maximus fast after making the switch. Fenix headlamps are no good (not enough flood). If you are considering a different brand, I think Nitecore and Olight are the only other contenders there, but I haven't owned either. Klien makes my favorite tape measure (the version w/ the extended wings @ tip), Croc's makes the best electricians pliers, Festool makes the best brushless 6" sander, miter saw, tracksaw, jigsaw, etc... anything related to wood, and I think Metabo makes some of the best powertools w/ a noticable difference in longevity and performance.

What do you recommend for torx sockets? I haven't found any decent ones yet - I seem to ruin them frequently when dealing with seat belt anchors or bolts on Jeeps. And yes - I use the correct size, but eventually the bits start to twist. Even the impact grade torx sockets I picked up at NAPA have this problem (and I'm not even using them on an impact gun!)
@IntegrityDistribution8 жыл бұрын
Torx transfers so much torque that it's hard to get anything to hold up. Bondhus is probably your best bet. Impact sockets are actually softer than typical sockets in exchange for better toughness, so I'm not sure if that's the route to take if you're ok running them by hand. Bondhus probably has the best steel out there. None of the companies listed in this forum (that I have seen) make torx sockets except Wiha, and believe it or not, Wiha's driver bits and sockets are among the worst I have ever tested, and they are generally less durable than quality China manufacture, however, if you must use an impact gun, there are bits specifically rated for that made by both Wera and Wiha, and this is one bit that Wiha actually won a contest with recently, so it is an exception to what I'm saying. Horrible bits in general (good precision, but far too soft/tough) but Wiha does have the best impact bits. I'd get bit holding sockets (Wera #05057675001 or Wera #05048680001 if you really want to go all out), and stick an impact rated bit in them... garbage you get at NAPA just isn't going to give the same performance even if it says "impact" on it. Wera's bit branding is "impactor", and Wiha's is "terminator", and Wiha won the contest @ about 30 seconds for a failure. With how good Wiha is at marketing, I wouldn't be surprised if they set up the contest, but Wera's impact bits are overpriced, so even if their bits are better, I'd still spring for Wiha if I were you. Again... impact good, but for any other bit, go with Wera... Wera tempers many of their bits 6 different ways to guarantee the right balance of hardness and toughness to fit the application, but even for their run of the mill bit, they are still a lot better than Wiha's bits. Good luck. I work at Champion Bolt and Supply in Everett if you don't have any luck finding something something you like elsewhere.

What do you think about Witte screwdrivers? For me their almost triangle handles (especially Maxxpro Plus series with additional friction material) are the most convinient. And unlike many users I do not like Wera handles form at all. I have one Felo and some Wiha screwdrivers and I also noticed that material of Felo handles is... sticky. Definetly not for dirty jobs (like car repair).
@JKGarageBMW8 жыл бұрын
I agree on the Felo material but I will have some updates to this shortly. I would be interested to try out some of the Witte units they look interesting. I have been sitting on another set of Felos that IMHO are very similar to the Wiha. Review coming up shortly.

I have the Witte "Protop plus" and the "Maxxpro plus". the grips on the Maxxpro are extremely nice in shape and material. However i made the switch to all Wiha drivers. and this was mainly because for some reason the Witte tips just did not seem to properly fit like 80% of the screws i use on a daily basis. Like they always would work but you could tell it was just not quite the right fit. most obvious one was the ph#2. My use is a vary wide variety of fields, but mainly on electrical pannels, devices, and fittings. i have 0 regrets on switching to Wiha so far. seems like the same quality of tool but they seem to fit a the screw heads like a glove.

Not all Wiha tools are made in Germany either.I'm basing my opinion on experience as a auto electrician. The snap-on instinct handles are much larger than Wiha or Stalhwille drivers in the smaller sizes. I recently used Snap-on, Stahlwille and Wiha T25 drivers and found the larger instinct handle of the Snap-on great for spinning and flicking quickly with a good solid grasp and I was able to really torque it up compared to the other 2. However Snap-on don't make any electricians parallel type slotted drivers in 3-6mm range therefore I have a few Wiha and Stahlwille to tighten terminal screws.

Never seen a rusty Wera tool... you didn't even spell steel right. I've been a distributor of both brands for just shy of 10 years. They "suck" and "they rust"... what are you talking about Emin? Are you thinking of some other brand maybe? Also you didn't pluralize screwdrivers, and also I should point out that Wiha copied Wera with the stainless steel and it took them about 5 years to do it... don't get me wrong, I love Wiha, but I think you are grossly exaggerating something you probably know virtually nothing about. Sorry to be so hard on you, but seriously... Wera makes better precision drivers than Wiha (hands down no contest), Wera makes very comparable screwdrivers that are at the very least right with Wiha (I have owned or handled virtually every series in both brands, and I generally prefer nice Wera over Nice Wiha), and Wera makes better driver bits also w/o question. "They suck" is just an ignorant and stupid thing to say that is not in favor of the truth. There is a difference between a claim and the truth... the truth doesn't care what you believe... it is still true, and living a life inconsistent with truth will not end well. I'm surprised more people didn't call you out on this, but it seems like most here haven't handled much Wera. You're not missing out on much if you own Wiha, but still... what a ridiculous comment to dis Wera! Maybe I should submerge both in salt-water and send you a picture : )

mazzmari while I dont completely disagree with your statement, or agree with it, you're probably my the type of person who uses a wrench as a hammer and your tools are most likely all fucked up, not because of "how hard you work", but because you don't take care of your tools . Also, tools are not just for professional use FYI, idk if you know about retail stores selling to the public, not just contractors.
