Another thing I love with Scion is that it can surprise silence. Just activate it's effekt and send Dragonlord Dromoka to the Graveyard so Scion becomes a copy of it, silencing all opponent's, and then just combo of 😊

Actually Causal Scion is all about the commander, clones, and packets of damage. It can combo off and kill a pod in the declare attackers phase. "so I have 6 dragons in play and swing, that make 6 more dragons, each etb counts the number of dragons in play and does that much damage to a target. So you get 7, you get 8, you get 9, you get 10, you get 11, and get 12."

There's another combo that I've been using for a bit. Takes a lot of mana, but with ramp, Ancient Copper Dragon and Old Gnawbone, that's not so hard to do. Assume you've got ACD in the graveyard from last turn, plus some treasure tokens. Activate Scion four times (must be all at once because after the ability resolves he loses the ability). Put Miirym, Scourge of Valkas, Terror of the Peaks and Lathliss Dragon Queen in the yard. Leave Scion as a copy of Miirym. Cast Patriarch's Bidding. GG, everyone dies and you win. Here's how it all shakes out. The Scion dies to the legend rule, but not before its Miirym trigger goes onto the stack. So you end up with your five dragons in play (the four your just grabbed with Scion, plus ACD), plus triggers to create one extra Miirym and two extras of each other dragon. Resolve the triggers as such. Put a scourge token into play, and resolve the two scourge triggers plus terror trigger. 16 damage. Put another scourge token into play, resolve triggers. 25 more damage. Put terror token into play. 29 more damage. Put terror token into play. 37 more damage. Put ACD token into play. 48 more damage. Put ACD token into play. 51 more damage. Put Lathliss token into play. 54 more damage. Put Lathliss token into play. 57 more damage. Put Miirym token into play. 60 more damage. Now we start resolving the Lathliss triggers. Put 5/5 dragon token into play. 60 more damage. Put 5/5 dragon token into play. 63 more damage. Put 5/5 dragon token into play. 66 more damage. Put 5/5 dragon token into play. 69 more damage (nice). And finally the original scourge and terror triggers. Which will be another few dozen damage. You can get the damage into the thousands if you run a Wrathful Red Dragon, which allows you to direct triggers at your own dragons to triple the damage. But this is far, far, far into "win more" territory. Better to use that card slot for ramp or tutors or control or something. If you can't kill everything on the board with 500+ damage, then you're not killing it with 4,000 damage either. Also put an Aggravated Assault in there. That's just infinite combat phases with ACD or Old Gnawbone.

Scion is such a fun toolbox commander! Scion was my first edh deck. I built it as a reanimator deck. But mine is not aiming for cedh. Scion can protect itself by fetching a hexproof dragon if you have the mana.

For a while I was testing scion of the ur dragon as 5 color korvold treasure storm with the world gorger dragon combo in their as well. It performed really well whenever I didn't die to flipping dragons off ad nauseam. The blue dragon and red dragon both seem really good for that type of strategy but the more dragons in the deck the worst ad nauseam is and I think pure 5 color ad nauseam is better anyways. These cards are still really dope especially with scion

hey you missed teneb, the harvester you bring him with scion, then you deal damage revive him and start bringing back dragons or if you have enough mana you can bring lets say an ur dragon, and other dragons to your cementery and lastly teneb and then bring back all your other dragons with teneb as long as you can pay 2 and a black, its a combo that has given me a lot of wins

Scion is super strong cause he's graveyard dragon tutor that can be done once a turn, technically, not really, as long as you're keeping track of timing rules you can fork your decisions of what dragon he is based on your opponents counter plays.

Scion can pay 2 to use his ability and, at instant speed, pay 2 to use his ability again in the same stack. You'll get to tutor twice, or more, but scion only becomes 1 of those dragons picked and still counts as a Lego. of that dragon. Ideally you're playing reactively using scion to tutor Teneb and/or another dragon that can bring Teneb to your field from the grave. If your opponents not set up to protect against that combo, you can pretty quickly tutor up dragons from library to grave to play with just two. If you're also full dragons, you can use scion on your opponents turns to tutor pull defensive dragons like that one white dragon that lets you blow non-land permanents up when your opponent targets a dragon to add a little extra spice. If it's needed or so much more. He's wack

I think scion of the ur dragon got a lot more then you mention in the next set. Renari gives artifact and dragons flash. So you stack 2 triggers of scion and dump renari + a manasink dragon like niv mizzet dracogenius. Resolve the first trigger to assemble an artifact infinite like Scepter, then resolve the second trigger and use the manasink for game

The green and white ones have already been spoiled. The white one has a 10 toughness and 7 power when it rolls d20 you creates that many 1/1 flying blue faerie dragon tokens… no I’m not joking. The green one rolls d20 to put whatever the number you rolled in plus one counters on up to two creatures so if you crit you can actually put 20 counters on each of the two you selected is how I read it.

yeah I do know them. This is a problem for most commanders. That people have interaction. It is just normal cEDH life. We are still 5 colored so thassas demonic is still a great option.

So i wanted to maybe peak anyones interests but i have had an idea for a deck built around a scion deck with only maybe 5 dragons in it and many other good creatures of a certain type like eldrazi, angels, demons, humans, wizards etc to make an every creature type deck that isnt changelings with cards like arcane adaptation, conspiracy, artificial evolution, Rukarumel Biologist and etc to build a whacky but good creature deck but dont know where to stop lol and a public brainstorm might be what i need to figure out what im doing with it

I like it but it needs a build up. It is not a turbo option. The mana is also a bit to much. Peer is just better and I don't think you need a second worse peer in your deck. So yes it works but there are just better cards and you don't need more versions.

Can you use Scion tutor ability defensively on other players turns? Example: player x swings at you with a sun Titan. Player Y : You in response tutor a 8/8 dragon to the grave and block w/ an 8/8 scion of the ur dragon. Can you do that?

Yes. You can do that and more. Let's say opponent targets scion with a removal spell, you can then activates scions ability to look for a dragon with heatproof or protection. Scion is very versatile. It's main issue is its clunky mana cost for cedh

I wish wizards would do something to help honest-casting, rainbow commanders. Getting WUBRG is hard, and then getting jammed by interaction feels terrible. Unlike tiamat, not having access to an instant deterministic win on cast makes things rough. Lacking haste is another pain point for commanders like scion and Garth. This prevents us from using technology such as dream halls and food chain without adding many moving parts. Garth would have been quite viable if he had native haste, especially with the printing of displacer kitten. While I can't think of a way to unintrusively add haste, getting at least seething song analogs for WUBRG might help out these commanders just a little. Jegantha is close, but the nonsensical mana color restriction is what holds it back from getting more development.

If you draw one of those big dragons early doesn't that make it basically impossible to copy? Because the Scions ability says it can only become a copy specifically of the card that it tutored for from the deck not just any dragon in your graveyard.

I play Scion cEDH, with dockside+emil/sabertooth, Thassas, and worldgorger combos. Lots of tutors, counterspells, and bhaals invoker/niv mizzet for kill cards with the infinite mana. Copper dragon doesn’t help a lot, just use ancient silver and draw into win cons. Use Scion+ moltensteel/dragon tyrant to one shot your least fav player if ancient silver is in hand. The deck wins often, and competes with cEDH decks of all kinds. Deck list isn’t fully updated so I won’t post it. Keep in mind you need dual lands instead of shocks or worldgorger combo will kill you with shock etbs

Living death isn’t viable, your graveyard never gets that large if you’re tutoring for win cons and the only things in there will be utility dweebs like esper sentinel, spellseeker and imperial recruiter
