The theme of most of Jesus’ parables was the kingdom of God. In fact, these parables contain many of the essential truths about the kingdom. Yet, because they don’t fit the theology of most churches, Jesus’ kingdom parables have been explained away over the centuries or reinterpreted to fit changing doctrines. However, the early Christians understood His parables to mean exactly what they obviously say. In this message, Bercot examines what the early church believed about the parables of the wheat and the tares, the dragnet, mustard seed, wise and foolish virgins, wedding feast, and others.

This message, and the message entitled "What the Early Christians Believed about Separation from the World", are the two messages from brother Bercot that have challenged me the most. I really appreciate the clarity of this message. The three main points spoken of near the start of the message provide a very helpful roadmap to help navigate through the many details presented in the message. The clear exposition of the parable of the true vine and the branches is a real gem and is a very serious and sobering word that all who love Jesus need to hear. This message stays strong, all the way to the very end. This "common sense" way of understanding the kingdom parables of Jesus, together with the use of Jesus' own words found in other portions of the Gospels to interpret points in His parables that He does not explain, really is the best way to apply these parables to our lives. This is a highly, highly, recommended message.

Thanks for these videos, David. I would love to hear one on what the early church fathers taught on rising early to pray?

laura ashley Let scriptures speak to you on that subject. Just look at our Master Jesus. Two passages of scriptures to consider Mark 1:35 "Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where He prayed". NIV and 1John 2:6 "Whoever claims to live in Him must live as Jesus did". NIV All the best with your quest.

I know what the bible says about rising early. It is a wonderful and holy thing to give the Lord, the first fruits of your day. I am inquiring more into the thoughts of the early church fathers and if this was an issue they addressed. Thanks.

Excellent teaching. I hope the Lord Quickens all who hear this. I will say about the tares that tares were a wheat look-alike until it was grown and was not obvious until the seed head, plus it was poisonous. And don't we see many look-alikes among us and when they bear fruit we see they are poisonous? This message you brought is addressing tares and the fowls of the air (according to Jewish thought the fowls were evil, eating the seed and fruit. And how many do nest among us to only get "God's Good Stuff"?) False teaching is everywhere, among believers there are many who are in-name-only Christians. There are false denominations. We have to be aware of this and embrace the facts and guard constantly against being leavened (polluted) and discern Truth from error.

Do any books talk about who the Servants is in the parable of the Wheat and Darnel? Are the servants from the Wheat or Angels in heaven serving God.... Which actually would be pretty important to know....

hmmm, I wonder how we have John 3:16.... And then the book of Matthew... How it all adds up. But true in revelation, the 7 letters for the congregations it sounds like the Darnel is mixed with the Wheat....

Do you know if all your deeds are lost if you have to enter into repentance? And can you do a teaching on repentance? Not alot of people know about what repentance really is, and to have God tell you is very humiliating and horrible. Like I obviously enjoy doing the things I do, but if all the things I have done before are lost that makes it even worse and I definitely want people to know the truth about repentance so they don't do what I did and loose their deeds and possibly their lives.
