I've always wanted a New edge Mustang since I was a kid went with a V6 to save on insurance (only $4 per month to add it to my policy) knowing it wouldn't have the power I wanted I took the 3.8 V6 and turned it into a 4.2 V6 marring parts from the f150 V6 swapped over a lot of GT and Bullit parts as well. It now puts out closer to 275hp and can keep up with my 2003 Subaru WRX on the track. It is defiantly a great platform to build a cheap track day car.

Do you know I was starting to think that I was one of the few people that actually love the new edge mustang yeah I know it’s not the most powerful thing in the world but it’s a sporty car, it’s not a status symbol, it’s not a race car It’s a commuter car that’s designed to carry two adults and maybe two small kids or get you groceries and or get you around town or to work etc. but people are screwing up the mustang by expecting it to be more exotic sports car like because I’ll tell you one thing that my car can do that a Porsche or a Ferrari or a Lamborghini cannot do fit into my budget or I can Park it anywhere at the mall and not worry about it or I can afford the insurance on it or you can get parts for it anywhere and I never have to hear if you can afford this car you can afford the repair bill Big shot!

The 4.6L 2 valve is one of the best engines Ford has ever made, not including the older pushrod engines like the 351 Windsor. I have one in my 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis transportation car, bought with 49K miles, now has 273K miles with no problems other than a bad alternator. Not to mention the two previous idiot designs with the first cup holder in the way of the shifter. Not everybody who buys a Mustang wants a performance car. I bought a completely stock 2003 V6/auto in Zinc Yellow, with an optional spoiler, beautiful condition, a 9 1/2 out of 10, 68K miles, mostly because I just wanted a 2 door rear wheel drive American car with a solid rear axle. Those are almost impossible to find without going back to the '70s, and I didn't want an unreliable project car. It certainly didn't hurt that it looked great, my neighbor has a very late model Subaru BRZ, and I think my 2003 Mustang looks a lot better. Mine has the open rear end (I don't do burnouts in it) with the 2:73 ratio, which is great for cruising down the highway at 1500 rpm. Makes for a long lasting under stressed engine and great mpg. It did come with 16" wheels and new tires, but I have located a set of 15" wheels from a 1999 model, and when the tires wear out I will be installing those on it so I can have wider sidewalls. I may even be able to find RWL 15" tires to fit.

Those old 4.6 2Vs with 260hp and 302lb ft of torque get too much hate. They are one of the most reliable engines Ford ever made, there are literally parts available everywhere for them, they werent really that underpowered for the time period and they can be built to 300+whp engines reliably that's in a 3200lb car. I've owned 4 new edge cars....a 2000v6, 01, gt, 04gt, and 03 cobra, and they are easily my favorite mustangs out of the newer model years, and more importantly they NEVER left me stranded and hurt some feelings back in the day as well. I had 473whp and 464wtq in my cobra with just a pulley swap, intake, exhaust and tune, and my 01 gt made 307whp and 334wtq with full bolt ons, exhaust and tune, and had 4.10 gears in it. Took the back seats out and a few other weight reduction things. It would slap my stepbrothers 98 z28 from a dig and a roll, but his car was also a stock auto and mine had those mods and was a 5 speed manual. Wish I could find a low mileage 99-04 gt right now with under 50k miles

Hey Danny, it’s been a while, but the next time you wanna open that center console, make sure it’s opened from the front. Rest your forearm and relax it as normal, put fingers directly in the front, and pull it open as if you were opening a book that’s resting on a big laz-e boy arm rest. It just makes more sense and opens as intended, I used to open it that way on my GT and low and behold it came off, 3 years later it’s curved and disformed. Now with some moisturizing of the foam and some elbow grease for the original fit and it’s holding up just as it did from factory. That’s when the enlightenment of the correct way to open it came about haha

Last year I bought a 2003 Mustang GT from a shady dealer. It has a full Bassani exhaust and Hurst shifter, 106,000 miles.. The car has had a couple of mystery misfires and I had to put $700 to get it tuned correctly for the bolt ons [previous owner did not tune].. Driving it on Thanksgiving I blew a sparkplug and come to find I can't do the helicoil patch it has already been done and with the wrong kit.. I have it at the best race shop in my area right now and I need a new head. They quoted me around $3000-$4000USD.. I don't want to lose my dream car but I want to know if it is worth fixing.. Thanks

There is a control module behind the passenger side fender liner that has the solenoid for the compressor clutch - super easy to change once you get the fender liner off. The solenoid goes bad over time, working occasionally like after you hit a bump, then stops working altogether. BSE Reman Relay - Control Module RCM55M. (That is the part for 2001 V6, I would imagine they are all the same)

Now I feel bad that I own a 2002 GT. If I were still a 20-something I'd consider getting a faster car or supercharging the 02 or doing a coyote swap. From your review I take it that the 4.6 won't hold up too well with a supercharger. So, what's your take on doing the coyote swap? I'd like to lower the body but that looks like it'll cost a "few" bucks. But my 02 still turns heads. A higher gear ratio would be nice too.
@dannyjohnsonsgarage3 жыл бұрын
I have a GT myself. Yes, you’ll need an engine rebuild with stronger rods to hold more than 450rwhp which is what a new 5.0 easily makes. As for me, I use my GT as a great sounding daily and Leave the performance to the terminator. I would consider a Coyote swap somewhere down the line or just enjoy it as a reliable great sounding car as I do

@@Ed-yj4ho It’s normal with a new clutch to have “clutch chatter” as the clutch is released- usually it’s pretty bad in reverse, 1st, 2nd, and not so bad in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. If it doesn’t go away after awhile it should be looked at- but if you had a shop do the work let them see it soon so they don’t say it’s out of their warranty window. What brand of clutch?

I've had 4 new edge mustangs. Currently have a 2004 GT manual. I love the car but hate the clutch. Very hard to push down and engages only 1" from the floor. Did it both with this 93000 mile one and an earlier 2000 with 33000 miles. Will the new quadrant help?
@dannyjohnsonsgarage2 жыл бұрын
The quadrant will help with some of it, but the stiffness may be the diaphragm fingers of the pressure plate on that specific clutch, or even a worn retainer sleeve. The pivot ball will also play into the engagement points kzbin.info/www/bejne/iJyon2h8f62mbsk
