I remember when you guys were in the yard. Always happy to see someone else splash, gives us hope it'll finally happen for us. We're working on the 40' Wharram wooden cat, near the well, and hope to splash in about 60 days.

Great video guys, I’m assisting on a OW course as we speak which is great fun. Look forward to the next video! One thing I would add, on the Reg recovery I try and get the students to place the reg mouthpiece facing down as to prevent a freeflow

Nice video guys ! I too am a certified (Put Another Dollar In - PADI) :). Most of my gear is about 10 years old and when we move onto the boat, will need an updated equipment (dive computer, small dive compressor and lightweight tanks..etc). Not sure if you're future video's may investigate some of the latest options, but either way..look forward to your adventures. Thanks for sharing and fair winds !

The dive console ‘not facing you’ is a myth from the 70s guys. Actually, turning the console away from you is worse as on the back there’s a little metal burst cap that will actually act as a small projectile if there’s an over pressure buildup (you can see it if you remove the rubber casing. So console facing you.

Interesting. Thank you for sharing and watching our video!

The rubber casing helps to keep the burst cap from shooting out at you (if that were possible, the burst cap is designed to rupture in a pin hole shape and let the air escape just like the burst disk on a tank valve). The console should be down and away from your face when you crack the valve to let air into the first & second stages. The crystal on the front of the air gauge or computer has a higher chance of cracking (due to some type of damage) and becoming a projectile. Also, when I've seen a SPG fail it is at the connector to the hose. That's why it should be down and away so you don't catch the whole SPG in the face. One time on a boat I saw an SPG fail and it took the whole case (SPG/Depth Gauge/Compass) and shot it across the deck. Fortunately no one was in the way when it failed and blew, and the person who it failed on had the console down and away from their face. Scared the crap out of them. Also, most SPG's and air integrated computers (on the air hose line) are pressure rated for over 5000 psi while most dive tanks are 3000 psi or less (only HP tanks go to 4000, or 4400 if tested for 10% overfill capability). So it is more likely a damaged connector or crystal on the SPG will fail. I was a PADI MSDT Instructor for 15 years (taught for a Dive shop in SoCal, did equipment repairs), so I know what I'm talking about. Are you an instructor El Diabolico?

@@calkelpdiver no, I am a Divemaster working professionally for 20 years so please don’t pull the instructor card on me,.. for bragging rights go to Scubaboard… The ‘crystal’ as you call it is PLASTIC, that will never harm you even if it explodes (extremely unlikely as that’s the function of the burst disk). SPGs used to have real glass in the early years and that is how this myth developed. Today tec consoles have Tempered glass instead. Searching the internet regarding this topic, I found Alec Pierce’s channel. He was an instructor when your dad didn’t had pubic hair yet so have a look and then we can talk again. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aqO1aI17eZyKh80

I know this isn't a scuba question, but as modern sailors are there any good luck charms or rituals that you all participate in? I have heard that sailors are notoriously superstitious and I wasn't sure if that was all sailors in general or just sailors from a long time ago.

Congrats on the renaming ceremony! It looked fun! And congrats Lisa on the Scuba certification! Question on the topic of scuba. Will you all get an air compressor for on the boat, or rely on services on land in various ports for refills? That's a great question. As of now we have no plans to get a compressor or huka rig. We would love to have that capability on board, but they are expensive, take up space, and its one more system to maintain. Maybe one day. But for our current goals, we would like use that space and money on a water maker .

What scuba skills should beginners come in with? Like the ability to open their eyes underwater or hold their breath? Or maybe not panic easily? hahah
@SailingByeFelicia

No abilities needed- just a strong curiosity and respect of what is in the ocean. PADI does an excellent job at building skills without a foundation. Lisa does have claustrophobic tendencies but starting baby steps and building off of basic skills help grow her confidence 🙂. If you were interested in SCUBA; we would do the same for you ❤️
