@lpsfriends The point of refrigerating your cane (not freezing) is to make it just a little bit more firm while working with it. Certain techniques require the polymer clay to be very soft while other techniques are easier if the clay is just a little bit more firm. You would place the cane in the refridgerator just long enough for it to reach the consistency that works for you. Since every refrigerator is a different temperature there is no set time for this.

i noticed the glitter lines in the animal print pendant. How did you add that. Also, did you place the cut cane over a dome or is it a solid cane pendant? How did you attach the pendant since you didnt use the hole on the pendant. Did you use a bail and cover it with the antique color bead. Im a perfectionist, can you tell?

I love this!! I was wondering something. A while back I discovered a new way to to do stop-animation using a polymer clay, by slicing it into thin sections, then taking a picture of each slice.. what happened was I got actual fluid-like motion on film!! I only did this once and I plan on doing it again..

Thank you for the video, it's a great for those of us who are rookies. I am interested in the pendant you showed us and would like to know how the gold veining was done. It's beautiful.
@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 9 жыл бұрын
NG B The veining is achieved by rolling out a sheet of the gold clay and then adding it to the lace cane. You can also add Pearl-Ex Pigment to a layer or dusted on the edge of the cane to create a similar look (available on our website at dickblick.com). If you have more questions, feel free to contact our Product Information Department at 800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com .

Hello, lovely instructions and very clear, however, I was wondering how much of the clay block have you used for any of these projects? No one ever talks about how much of the block of the clay to use, they just jump to "here I have a rolled out piece already"!! thank you for your reply in advance.

I know this is old, but for future readers, just use how much you think you'll want for your beads. Sculpey doesn't shrink, so estimate the amount by how many (and what size) beads you want. Too much is better than too little. You can always use some excess, but if you have too little you'll have to make another cane (with waaay more excess).

@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 9 жыл бұрын
mightyaphroditie The quantity really depends on how much cane you want to make, but to help you get a little better understanding, the “core” tube she starts with is 2/3 to a full 2oz block of clay. The rolled out portion is a smaller quantity, closer to a quarter or less of the initial block. For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com.

Jewelz Weston When used as directed, polymer clays do not give off toxic chemicals in the curing process, and can be safely baked in a home oven. You may wish to purchase an oven thermometer to use to ensure an accurate temperature for baking.For any additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. @Oscar307975 That is a good question! The name sounds funny, I know, but Dick Blick is actually the name of the person who founded the company back in 1911. He started by selling a few items through a catalog and shipping from his home. Over the past 100 years the company has developed into the premier supplier of art materials in the U.S. All the materials you see in our videos (we have over 60,000 items in our assortment) are all available on our website at dick blick. com.

Which polymer clay do you prefer? I use craftsmart because it is cheap. It usually is crumbly and dry, is Sculpey brand worth the money?
@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 9 жыл бұрын
AbbyLayneLife Yes, it is worth the money if you find that the Craftsmart is crumbly and difficult to work with. Sculpey III is going to be a soft, easy to use clay that is available in a whole range of colors. Sculpey Premo is slightly harder but still softer than Fimo. Both the Premo and Fimo would be considered professional level clays and are good for achieving finer detail. If you would like to discuss further options, please feel free to contact Product Information at 800-933-2542 or email us at info@dickblick.com.

@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 8 жыл бұрын
+Karan Trivedi Once it is baked it can hold water - as in a vase - without it effecting the clay. A lot of artists will still put the clay around a glass or plastic vessel so that it will retain its form/structure. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

+Blick Art Materials thanks for the reply but I was asking about water in the context of actually molding the clay initially.
@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 8 жыл бұрын
+Karan Trivedi Thank you for the clarification. We have seen artists mix a small amount of water into the clay to make it more fluid. However, this can break down the integrity of the clay and can cause cracking when it bakes. If you do decide to try it, make sure to give the water plenty of time to evaporate/dry prior to baking.
