When making the pens, remove the ink cartridge before baking. Bake at 250° for 15 minutes. Once they have cooled, you can reninsert the ink cartridge.

Excellent video. Very informative and professionally produced. The instructor is relaxed and effective; I have seen other videos that take 3 times as long and give, maybe, a quarter of the information-with "uhm" and "er" every sentence, along with extraneous information. I hope they have more videos that are this good!

Stephanie Merritt If you do not have a pasta machine, you may also use a rolling pin. Place your clay between two sheets of wax or parchment paper to prevent sticking. You may also purchase a pasta machine on our website, dickblick.com!

Only certain pens can be used and you would take the ink cartridge out before baking. Make sure to contact our Product Information team for more information at: info @ dickblick . com or call 800-933-2546.

@KissMyChristin Yes, you can roll the clay with a roller instead, the pasta machine just makes it easier to achieve a consistent thickness

@cullennclann Yes - once you make your project, follow the directions on the package and bake it in an oven or toaster oven so it becomes hard and permanent.

sculpey is a harder polymer clay that might might make you hands sore if your starting out and has a smaller selection of bright colours (more natural colours that are AWESOME), fimo is soft and has a better selection of bright colours but lacks a good natural selection. fimo also is more expensive and has a fimo soft line and classic fimo. fimo's naming system and is much easier to follow but sculpey is a little harder. i recommend both!

i think that fimo is a little bit more firm and expensive than the sculpey.

@KissMyChristin I remember watching a tutorial where a guy ended up using two pencils side by side with the clay in between to get consistent thickness without using a pasta machine. I think it can be done with other similar objects with flat surfaces--it's basically a barrier to stop your roller at a certain thickness.--haven't played with my own clay enough yet to see how successful it is though.

I realize this video is quite old but here goes. I am conditioning clay for the very FIRST time right now. I had this video running in the back ground when I looked over a few times to get a visual of what you were working on. I admire the pendant shown at the beginning of the second half (colors turquoise, brown, and orange with gold leaf). Would you give me more information please? How did you get to the pendant completion? Perhaps you cut it from the larger piece you were working on off to the side with a solid brown slab bottom with gold leaf applied to a section then use a cutter to cut out the pendant shape? It appears though from the side of the pendant that it has several layers of the colors as they were just after you shaved off the top only it had a layer of gold leaf added? I look forward to your response. Subscribed and off to more videos by BLICK ART MATERIALS..Thank you so very much for your time.

+Janice Francis The triangle shaped pendent was made from the block that the demonstrator is shaving the thin pieces from. Once she had shaved off the desired amount of clay to review the pattern or colors she wants, she then cut that thick piece into the triangle form. That triangle was then applied to a larger piece of conditioned, flattened piece of polymer clay that had gold leaf applied to the edges. Once they were attached it was fired as one piece. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

What if you don't have a pasta machine?
@Blick_Art
@Blick_Art 8 жыл бұрын
+Aaron Ewy You can still do this technique if you don’t have a pasta machine. Instead use as rolling pin or your hands to make the thin sheets to be layered. You can also condition the clay by simply working it in your hands. It just may take longer. If you have additional questions, you can reach Blick Product Information at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com. Thanks!

Place the clay on a smooth hard work surface. You can use a rolling pin to flatten the clay. First place thin strips of wood on both sides of the clay. Place your rolling pin on top of the strips. This will give you a consistent thickness.
