When I first delved into polymer clay,I tried several kinds and found Super Sculpey beige to be the best for me. The texture is just right and it is more durable than most when used correctly and I love that you can paint it when finished baking 👍

If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of paint do you use? I use water based acrylic paint, but I keep seeing little blobs and random brush strokes. 😕

Agreed. It doesn't crack as easily. And yes, it's great to paint on.

How well does Sculpey adhere to other mediums such as glass, plastics (dolls) or porcelain? I have several of these but bought air dry to try & add features to some face up dolls.

Apologies for the somewhat long post, but I would like to ask you for some technical information so that I can make better use of the polymeric pastes I have recently started working with: 1- is it strictly necessary to use turpentine or 91% isopropyl alcohol to smooth and remove defects from the sculpture still to be fired? Is it possible, as an alternative, to use natural products other than solvents whose fumes can be annoying? 2- If I preliminarily heat an area of the super sculpture with a heat gun (before firing it in the kiln), I notice that it becomes brittle, especially the thin parts; how can I glue the pieces that come off? Should I use a special glue or turpentine? I bought 'sculpey oven-bake clay adhesive', but I think the pieces will only stay firmly together after baking them in the oven. 3- I have noticed that various artists always use raking tools to roughen the surfaces of the sculpture. Why is such a step necessary if they then have to be sanded? 4- Are you by any chance familiar with the product "MOD PODGE matte-mat-mate"? If I understand correctly, it should be applied to the fired sculpture to remove imperfections. However, since it remains sticky, once cured, it is required to apply a clear acrylic sealer. Can you recommend a suitable one? 5- Can you confirm that once baked, the super sculpey sculpture (even the super sculpey firm) is brittle? Should I mix it with Cosclay? In what percentages? 6- Can super sculpey sculptures be used for replicas with resins in silicone moulds? If so, do you have an example video for making a copy? Thank you very much for your availability.

I get what you mean about not wanting to work with something that doesn't have fumes. Ethanol bothers my nose too but it IS a natural substance. It's produced by microbes as they process sugars. Nothing unnatural about it.

Paul, can the clay be saved? I bought some and stored several un opened packages and now they are hard as a rock. Do I just take a loss and go buy new ones? Seems that could be very costly...

You can work to condition them in small bits at a time, and you could also try adding a very small amount of either Sculpey Oven Bake Clay Softener (www.sculpey.com/products/oven-bake-clay-softener-2-oz) or Sculpey Clay Softener and Thinner and work it in until the clay is the consistency you like. (Be sure to work with very small amounts at first until you have a feel for it!)

Anyway, he did state the lease expensive way is to buy silk screen ink and add Kaylen clay and you have your polymer clay. What do you think have you tried this? Kathy from Cali😎

I think skin color mentioning clay is more about the translucent property of the clay than the color itself. Stop with the race/color of your skin. And if you don't like this product, go buy something else. STOP with the complains and put the effort like everybody else that we are striving to survive this life.

Hi! I'm new to polymer clay sculpting and I'm a bit confused. I want to create a very, very detailed sculpture so I thought I should go with the firm clay. But then you said not to use it for the entire sculpture. So should I do the sculpture with regular super Sculpey and then add the firm clay as a top layer? Will it adhere well to the regular clay under it? Also in my country there is not the option for the regular gray super sculpey, so I would have to go with the beige one. Will it work? Thanks a lot for your help and for this video. It's greatly appreciated.
