💬 In this video cycle, I will share my workflow of creating a hyper-real portraiture in 3D. I will start with a base mesh, walk through anatomy sculpting and then will demonstrate how I texture model in Substance Painter, set-up a scene for a photo real render in V-Ray 5.

❗ Human face is tricky and requires lots of observation and practice. Be ready for forward and backwards steps in achieving likeness and don’t get upset if you won’t get the results you imagined at first time. Even experienced artists can struggle which is normal. Just give yourself a break, don’t work on it for couple of days, then come back and give it a look with a critical eye. Most likely you will spot the mistakes.
Nevertheless, the steps that I developed in my practice help me to reduce the mistakes to minimum and spot the wrong areas when I struggle.
Tutorial was designed for beginners, but I suggest you to know basic sculpting in Zbrush, be familiar with anatomy, already sculpted some organic creatures. In any case, give a try; I would be grateful for your feedback.

Hey, you dont have to export alembic animation file to 3DsMax between CC3 >>>MarvelousDesigner workflow. You can import starting pose (Tpose or Apose for example) straight to MD and than import final pose mesh as Morph Target. But of course your way is also fine ;) thanks

No, because once arm bends it bends wrong through morph target. It shrinks then grows to right position. This causes mistakes in simulation. So it needs to be the hard way - proper animation and alembic :)

Looks amazing!! Thank you for sharing! What program do you use to draw red lines for measuring the angles both on the reference photos and the zbrush models??

It could be any screenshot program or even painter or photoshop. Mine is Lightshot. app.prntscr.com But it’s not necessary, you can measure by using your pencil or anything. :)

Hi Mariana, why do you prefer sculpting in orthographic mode instead of perspective? Is it better for portraits?

To avoid distortion. In perspective depending on zoom you get different results that makes it difficult to judge the proportions :)

No, my machine is at middle complexity I guess. Processor: Intel core i7, 7700k CPU, OM 16 Gb. Graphic card: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060
