Stumbled across this video the other day. I ordered the magnets and they came in today. Now I’m just waiting, impatiently, for the E6000 to dry. Thanks for a great idea!

Talk about timing!! Ive just ordered a new body for my SCX10 II today and planning how to fix it without bodypins. Years ago I tried velcro and regular magnets on my old 1/8 and 1/10 buggies, the velcro was ok but didnt take long to gunk up and the magnets wouldnt hold the car to the body like those did. Just order a set of 10,SWEET lol

Thank you! This is great and my newly replaced Power Wagon looks SOOO much better with nothing visible on the body!

Nice work. I tried with 1/2” solid magnets and glued a nylon bushing around the outside of it for locating, but it wasnt strong enough until I added metal backing. I’ll give ring magnets a try on this next one. I was concerned about glue holding under painted lexan
@GCMRacing13 жыл бұрын
That's a great idea! Certainly the metal backer works on just about any magnet to increase strength.

Thanks a lot for this Chris, I didn't know you could get magnets with holes in, I was always worried about using magnets due to exactly what you mentioned, them not lining up properly. Just ordered some though, my body in my SCX10 II kit was pretty beat up with creases and stuff, so they sent me another one, at least I have a practice one in case I screw it up lol.
@GCMRacing16 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the note, man! I really got happy with the magnets once I found these ring magnets. For sure. The 3/8 size ring magnets work ok too, but they seem to get better as they get bigger! The 1/2 get used here ALL the time.. tons of them! haha
@RCFunEveryday6 жыл бұрын
Yeah I have been looking for an easy solution to get rid of body clips, not only do I lose them a lot but it's annoying when they get dirty in the trails and you have to handle them, then touch your radio etc... They are the work of the devil lol. Hopefully these ones I bought will be strong enough, they ranged really widely in price and size, I got some with a 6mm hole and 2mm thick, the next ones I could find where 10mm thick, which seems way too much to me, so hopefully these 2mm ones have a good amount of grab.

I kept waiting for you to say something about polarity but putting it all together before it is dry will make sure polarity matches. BTW, the word you were looking for when describing the shape of the magnetic field is toroid, basically looks like a donut.
@GCMRacing17 жыл бұрын
So true! I'm not a very good magnet nerd. That's also true. Certainly you have to have the polarity correct to use my method with the tape in between.. it's a guarantee!

So, you have the magnets ready to go on the body posts, easy peazy. Now the tricky part is to mark off where the magnets go onto the inside of the body as it sits where you want it on the truck. Do you just take a rough guess and attach it then move it in place? You didn't say much about that part and if you did, give us the time stamp. Thanks.

Awsome video this is an Awsome idea. But the issue I'm having is all the magnets I have found have a tapered hole for a screw. If you could please provide a link as to where you purchased yours it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
@GCMRacing12 жыл бұрын
There's links in this comment pile here, yeah. tapered is made for a screw mount instead of glued in for example. Ring I think is stronger than the screw mount. As well, there's different pound levels on the same ring magnet, so get the strongest rating!

Hey Chris, would packing tape be a good choice to use between the magnets? Also, do you have any tips for mounting a different body style? I have a new body for the Cherokee you have here in this video, the Proline Dodge Ram 1500 (PRO343400). After painting, I'm unsure of the best way to line up the mounts when I can no longer see through the body,.. you know? Just wondering if you have experience in mounting other bodies to the exact Cherokee. Thanks for your time.
@GCMRacing12 жыл бұрын
Yeah! I use Packing tape as well, after the glue is fully dried. Yep. The good thing about the glue is you can get some 'working' time from it. So.. if you line up everything and tape between the magnets (so the glue doesn't leak through to the other magnet) you can stack your magnets on the 'mount pin' or whatever you're using, and then place the body on top for 24 hrs... the magnet glue will set on , and then you can remove it and finish the mounting on the other magnet. I hope that makes sense. The point is that the glue will let you move around the body a bit before it sets up, so you can make fine adjustments in the position before you're done. Give it a try! The worst that can happen is you have to tear off the magnets and try again.

I hear you, makes good sense,.. thanks muchly!@@GCMRacing1

#tinytrucks Chris, I had to come back to this... I hate Body Posts and Clips as much as you do!!! 😬😬😣 YOU and this Video, were my inspiration and the Reason, why I NEVER have to use them again!!! 👏👏👏🍻🍺🍻 I use two part Epoxy instead, because I'm in the Desert, and Shoe Goo MELTS at some times in the Summer! Thank you! Carmine 💥 ⛽

I did have this experience also with the black bronco in the hot summer. I never guessed... but yes, had to keep that truck out of the heat so the mags would stay on.
@CarminesRCTipsandTricks5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for replying!! I always strongly suggest using Epoxy. It smells BAD till it cures, but it's stuck for LIFE! On Lexan Bodies, because I always sand the inside before Painting, the Paint sticks so well and the Epoxy sticks SO well - I've NEVER lost a Magnet, or even cracked or peeled the PAINT!!! 😎👍👍 I have YET to do a Hardbody... 😢😭😭 But when I'm finally able to afford it, it's going to start with a Tamiya Blackfoot Body, and your Delta Chassis!! 😀 I'm really excited about your new Chassis, and can't wait to be able to use it. Cheers, Carmine 💥 ⛽

Believe it or not, just migrating from 1/24 to 1/10. Looking for mag body mounts that actually work the way you are using them. Problem, I can not locate the magnets that you suggest. I've been looking for over an hour on the internet. Some too thick, or I.D. too small or too big, ..., you get the picture. Could you please post a link to where you bought the magnets you used so can get TONs [ha, ha, ha] of them for myself. Thx, RED
@GCMRacing12 жыл бұрын
There's links in the comments and video description as well, yes. Check around for different suppliers, the actual 'strength' of the magnet can vary in the same size. (go stronger!) www.apexmagnets.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=1+2+x+1+4+x+1+8+rings&amnoroute

How would you mount a 2 piece body where the box and cab are separate lexan pieces?
@GCMRacing12 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the box and cab are mounted to eachother at the joint, but if not, you can make up an extra post set and just add more mounting points to the body parts

What size r the magnets u used in this video and can u post s link??
Nice idea but isn't weight an issue with smaller racing cars
@GCMRacing16 жыл бұрын
These cars drive so slow that the weight isn't really an issue. We like to have the weight balance bias toward the front for better hill climbing on rocks and trails anyway, and a bit more weight usually gives the tires better bite traction.

I added some magnets to my 1969 drifting Camaro x mod some of the x mods can get up to 60+ mph on the dino mine does 25 maybe lol so it doesn't bother it thanks for the idea got my body back on since its mounting points broke when I was a kid

so you glue the lower magnets , painters tape in between , glue upper on the body and let it sit assembled until its dry ?
@GCMRacing17 жыл бұрын
Exactly! Then after it's dry, go over each magnet again with glue, and then last step is the clear tape when dry.
