Welcome to the first video in the Axial SCX24 Deadbolt Competition Build series! This series builds upon the "Top Five Mods" video which featured my initial upgrade recommendations for the scx24 and takes it one step further with the addition of more upgrades including aluminum steering linkage, more brass, and a more powerful motor. The goal of this build will be to create a competition worthy crawler. I will focus on performance and not purely articulation. I will seek to find the point of diminishing returns where modifications begin to lose their effectiveness. At that point we'll assess where we are and see if we can find a competition to enter it into!

My son and I both have scx24 JLU's and we discovered the same thing. Add a little width to the axles and a little weight down low plus a good set of tires and these things are surprising out on the rocks! Our stock motors are still going strong too. IMO these things work best when kept nice and light weight with out excessive amounts of brass, just enough to get the performance your after.

I agree! I dont think I'll add much more weight. I am going to focus on lowering the COG in the next phase I think. It feels really balanced right now!

Hey Adam, perfect example of why I watch your tutorials multiple times. I was having issues with my brass steering knuckles . I was nervous how bearings sat at on angle. I questioned what I was doing wrong. Thought I had received a mis-milled part. Turns out it was my assembly error. Thank you so much!!!

@@CapeCrawlers actually there is one thing. i love the tall tire throw downs, but i thing it would be cool to do a smaller tire throw down for the C10, cause the bigger tires kinda ruin the scale looks of the C10

Good explanation of the process. However I couldn’t tell any real difference in before & after. I have a 050 Torquebeast & it’s not smooth at all. The Injora Pro is slow in starting but this can be fixed with 50% UD in the rear. The Holmes hobby Torque Master Sport 050 55t is a nice motor too. I put UD in my Warthog & it now turns like it has dig & that’s with 5mm extenders on it. A good cheap motor is the Hobbypark CR-18 55t

for a beginner not builder i already have 2 1/16 hbx bashers with plenty of spares, 1 ftx ravine 1/10 and always wanted this small 1/24 deadbolt because looks si sweet and si many possibilities to play indoor and outdoor. the inly thing putting me away e the price since it costs mire than my ftx ravine and is 1/3 of its size

They are pricey but I find so much enjoyment in exploring the near limitless aftermarket for customization options. I feel like the axial is well built, reliable, and fun to tinker on. But certainly not the cheapest!

These videos are super helpful! I just bought a deadbolt and I want to make it as nice as possible for a 'flex' indoor course that i'm going to build, but still capable of climbing hills if needed. I've went through your top 5 mods video as well as this one and i'm wondering if the listed products are still relevant or if there's something better that has come along? Or anything you'd swap out, change, add or remove? Thanks a ton!

Possibly. Some of the bigger motors could benefit from a two speed. But I honestly don’t find myself wishing for a two speed except with the bigger, faster motors.

evening i just happened to run across this as I was looking for some examples of the scx rc to start out i started with one and have kind of binged your videos I was wondering if you could do a comparison with the red dead bolt on the hyrax tires and a set of the comp pins of around the 65*19mm size snaggle tooth looked awesome with the tall ones and the little red one did awesome on the others and I am interested in that tire on your current build as that is the same as mine thanks

@@CapeCrawlers awesome I have two deadbolts one red one green still in the box got them yesterday with parts coming to address some of the things you pointed out and am in the process of building my first section of curse. For the folks that think I am going a bit fast into this, I may be new to the crawler Rc but not to the Rc life I fly FPV and have raced off road and street. I like you have a real-life jeep well more like 3 and build them to do different things, now I can build little jeeps and have just as much fun lol.

You should try the Hobby Plus 030 88t, they are really quite good. It made a huge difference in my CR24. At the moment I'm running the 66t 050 in my Deadbolt, but will swap it out with the 50t Injora Pro motor (stronger, but draws more amps). You should really check out Donald Sneffes huge motor test, if you haven't already. His test showed that the Hobby Plus motor has more torque than the mofo onn, not by much, but a bit more, and it is way cheaper. In 050 size the RocHobby and Hobby Plus ones are really good for a cheap price. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2aaqH-uiLpnipo&ab_channel=donaldsneffe
