In this video I take a look at the brand new 54MM long travel shocks for the Axial SCX24 made by Powerhobby. I compare these new shocks to the Hot Racing 48MM telescopic shocks, and RC Lions 43MM double barrel shocks. I examine the length, shock action, and fit and finish. I also throw them on the gladiator and shred the backyard crawler course for a demonstration! How do the shocks work? Watch to find out!

That is a bit of a bummer that they are not actually 54mm, but they still look fantastic, and seem like they work well. I might look into a set of these in the future. I finally got just about everything together for my 1970 off-road Dodge Challenger project. Basing it off the JLU chassis since it's on sale right now. Pretty excited to get started on this build! Thanks Adam, another great video, take care!!!

I have 2 sets of the Injora , very smooth and good quality, RClions set I got was poor quality and while re-assembling after trying to smooth out binding, the top of the shock cylinder tore right off with just slight finger tightening of the cap. I run them with a bungee (thin elastic hair tie) limiting straps set to 3/4 extension under load, in a cradle arrangement under the servos front and rear (4WS), at the hog rear, on the 2WS. definitely a fix for the only drawback of the Dbl Brl shocks, Unloading. Thx for the video 🤙

I measured the springs and the "soft" is the same as Hotracings long travel medium springs. Also, looks like LIttle guy racing parts slapped their name on these too just like injora motors.

I think this is a case of one or two wholesalers who make these shocks. PowerHobby, LGRP, Injora, RCLions, etc. most likely all are using the same manufacturer. I would like to see someone come along and truly manufacture something different and new.

I've used all them shocks, and the black springs have ALWAYS been the softest springs, so that's weird... Dunno how you get that much articulation either, all mine are max modded out and I can't get that much, unless your forcing them, in the video it does kinda look like your twisting hard to get that much..

Great vid! I'm new to the hobby and have been watching you to help choose parts as i go. The aftermarket for the scx24 seems really broad, do you think it is possible to build a complete rig with just the aftermarket? That might be a cool project to build one with no starting point!

@CapeCrawlers

Yep, agreed. You cannot measure eye to eye if one eye isn’t at 0. You mention that the 54mm advertised shock is “x” amount shorter than 54mm but that “x” amount is the same amount as that part of the square you aren’t accounting for!

Hello Adam I bought my first scx24 jlu recently and i have a question about running the 48mm or longer shocks if such a things exists...... Did you have to change out your driveshafts for the additional travel? Or do the stock shafts have enough length to accommodate for the extra travel? Great content by the way i think i have watched all your videos in the last month since i have gotten my jlu.... Any advice or tips on this would be awesome
@CapeCrawlers
@CapeCrawlers Жыл бұрын
Hey Alan, you do not need to change driveshaft lengths. If you start losing your driveshaft at full extension, you'll want to add some sort of limiting strap. I personally use rubber bands up front to control the front end. Check this out: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJSpnX2cmciNoJo
