Yes, I have to say thank you for this review as well as the spoiler review. And a bigger thank you for all that you do with The Dice Tower. A valuable resource for sure. I miss Sam greatly, but you all have clicked it up several notches since his departure. One of the best aspects of your channel is the wide diversity of personal preferences that are represented giving more accurate and rounded information. Thank you, and all the staff you work with. Awesome expansion. I think you really get your moneys worth and more in this one. Production quality is amazing. When I first saw the review I though " yeah okay Tom it's great, but is it that good?"... about half way through the campaigne and I'm shocked at how much I like this one too. Scythe went from a 7 out of ten to a solid 9. For me thats a huge jump in the right direction. Get it!

Should a group of new players start their first game with the campaign? If not, how many games of vanilla scythe should they play before starting the campaign?

utahgamer I have not played the expansion, but I would say learn the base game first. Play it at least twice then add expansion. Expansions always add complexity and scythe is complex to begin with.

I'm curious how it remains a competitive game AND has a rich story. I can see how Pandemic would manage a running narrative, because it's cooperative. (And I'm assuming Risk Legacy had a more bare-bones story.) I'm intrigued.

They did one for the Ticket to Ride France and Old West expansion, so expansions are considered. I think they mainly stick to full games though. Ultimately, I think it comes down to whether or not they have all played it.

I don't know what's in the box, but do you think it would be somewhat easy to take the 8 campaign scenarios or whatever and mix and match it for custom campaign? I'm really into Scythe just having bought it a week with my brother. I immediately got the phone game version and I am hooked. 3 to 4 games a day hooked maybe even upwards to 7. The price seems steep, but you're kind of selling it to me. Lol Also, how does it play with Automas?

NOT A 2-PLAYER EXPANSION, but still worth it. If I knew anyone buying Rise of Fenris to play as a 2-player game, I'd tell them to skip the campaign and just use the extra mods however they want. The 8-game campaign as a 2-player game was underwhelming for me, certainly not better than the base game. I would say one particular part of the campaign is broke -- it simply doesn't work as a 2-player game. I can't explain further without spoilers. With 3-5 players, however, I'm confident the campaign would be absolute madness, intense and fun. I look forward to using the modules in regular future games, though. Most of them are excellent. (I haven't tried the co-op module included in the package.)

hopefully someone can answer my question even tho this video was posted a long time ago. Being looking for a new game to add to my collection and I'm really interested in getting scythe and this expansion together. Would you guys say it's preferable to get a few games in with the base game before cracking up the campaign or would it be an easy learning curve to start right off with the campaign?

Yes, each game of the campaign is connected to the previous, so all players should keep the same factions between games (even Automa).

How well ist the coop mode done? I love Scythe but my girlfriend dislikes competitive games. Playing coop vs Automa was ok-ish but I am hoping this will make it as nice as “Invasion” was making “Orleans” cooperative. Any thoughts on this?

rpcnuwm the Solo Mode via Automa (included in base game) is ok but a little bit complex (rules for enemy expansion). The coop module seems to be in the spoiler territory...

rpcnuwm I don't own the expansion yet, but I only play Scythe solo and it's an amazing game in that aspect. Everything is super quick and smooth once you understand the basic iconography the game uses for ennemy actions. I usually play with 3 or 4 Automa and games don't last more than 1h30 (2h if I play on harder difficulties needing more planning ahead). Your first 2 or 3 games will be slower though as you wille be learning the placement rules. But once those are known, games fly by !

It is fully supported by the Automa.

Yes, each game of the campaign has instructions on how the automa will work with any special rules for that game. If you use an app with intelligence to handle your automa deck, you'll need to wait until it's updated to support the expansion though. Unless your app is literally just the cards and you fully control them, as early as game 2 you'll run into things you need to do that the app will likely not support.

Disappointed by the expansion. This has the same issue as most legacy games. Once you win you keep on winning. At 3 games in my race has become unbeatable. Bad game design.
