Greg, I was just thinking about something that would set a plancha or griddle plate apart from the competitors. A grease trap. All you would need is a cutout far off to one side, a simple welded bracket underneath, and a small pan (seems like a little over a pint capacity would do it). Then grease wouldn't go over the edge and flare up (as seen in the video), and your food wouldn't be swimming if you did a good quantity of burgers, as is the case with my OKJ griddle which has sides. If the cutout was large enough, you could also sweep any unwanted food debris down it before continuing to cook.

Thank you for the review! The only one I could find on it. @thegardengourmet18034 жыл бұрын
The few benefits of carbon steel v cast iron are: 1) Carbon steel is stronger; 2) Carbon steel has better corrosion resistance; 3) Carbon steel has a smooth surface, thus improves contact with food.

Greg, that is a clever flavor combo for the burger! How would your rate the plancha versus the Blackstone on ease of use, clean up, and temperature zone gradient? It would be interesting also to experiment with smoking with the plancha in place with a rack under the meat, specifically with a wagyu roast so when the fat drips on the surface it is only the fat smoke vaporizing.

@handcannon13884 жыл бұрын
Awesome burger, Greg. I wish I had one of those for lunch. I see you ordered that LEM grinder. When you consider price vs. functionality, does it win out over your inexpensive grinder? Also, the design of that plancha looks nearly identical to one offered by Hunsaker Smokers. Hunsaker's model is only half as thick, making it only half as heavy. It also sells for less than half the price. Nothing against Dave, but options are nice to have. I suppose the thicker plate would be less prone to fast temperature swings and/or warping. Thanks for the tip on arranging the coals. I have suffered from having my griddle either way too hot or not hot enough on more than one occasion; I laid out a uniform layer of coals. Now I'm off to eat something; too bad it isn't one of those burgers.
@BallisticBBQ4 жыл бұрын
Thicker is better when it comes to the flattops. This is as thick as my "Ballistic MoJoe Griddle," but a little larger. The thicker steel holds the heat longer. This is made by a company in the UK. Maybe Hunsaker is using them as well? Dunno.' I do know that it gets my seal of approval!
