Mier Wise: I’m guessing you are meaning the disgusting comment left by somebody calling themselves ‘Jon England’? His comment was removed by KZbin mediator for its content. For no reason whatsoever and being in a totally different genre, this person decided to basically pull this ‘Our Kid’ act apart despite these boys being very early teens. I actually complained about this individuals comment and it was removed. There were a few people who were slightly disturbed with this man referring to these boys as pretty. At the same time as completely disrespecting them. The ironic thing is. This man who made himself judge of this very young boy band himself appeared in America’s Got Talent. He was actually buzzed off by all three judges. These kids in the band weren’t. Here is the link: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWTYqnd_a9Gnl6c He very cleverly cut the clip at the end when the judges buzzed him off the show. When that happens, it’s probably best not to pull other acts apart. Particularly when they were as good as Our Kid. Because that’s all they were, kids.

If I remember right I bought this single (Polydor) around the same time as my idol David Bowie had a new album out, Station to Station or Changesone Bowie?...so why did I like it? Every Friday after work I'd go to my favourite record shop (I & N Records, Hilltown, Dundee) for the latest plus the cheap ones that didn't make it. Turns out Greenaway, Mason, Don Black, Ben Findon played a huge part in my collection. Sort of explains my wide arena of taste - but my daughter let me know she's one better. Apart from my tastes, she likes 'boyband music' - ouch, a step too far for me.
@chrismarshall7232 жыл бұрын
Great comment ! Being of a certain age I also bought the 7" single, I think your Bowie LP might been ChangesOne (May 76). I'd not long bought ABBA Greatest Hits but one of their crowning glorires "Arrival" wasn't far off! Yep my record collection of thousands also contained so many Cook/Greenaway, Findon/Myers, Mason/Reed and so many Chinn/Chapman gems. Happy days as u say of buying 7" singles, sneaking my Sony radio to school for the Tuesday chart. Simplistic times that you'll only know about if you were there! Oh and being an absolute Bond fanatic then the genius that is Don Black holds a special place with me!
@harrydonaldson19652 жыл бұрын
@@chrismarshall723 Thanks for your reply Chris, it's good to know there's somebody on the same wavelength. Apart from Chinn/Chapman gems I can add Bickerton / Waddington to that list. I was surprised that they wrote a lot of 'The Rubettes' hits along with 'Mac and Katie Kissoon' hits too. Also any songs that Smokie had could easily have been recorded by Suzie Quatro. I've got Aussie band 'New World' songs "Tom Tom Turnaround, Sister Jane and Living Next Door To Alice" - but missed out on a few others of theirs - on the Island record label. Guess you've got gems likewise? Cheers!
@chrismarshall7232 жыл бұрын
@@harrydonaldson1965 Evening Harry, well thank u for your reply which ultimately led me to thinking of all sorts of classic pop gems! Soon as I'd sent my last reply I thougt oh what about Tony Waddington/Wayne Bickerton and their State record label! I loved that era and I was always fascinated how certain songs were " created" and then offered around to various singers.....Sugar Baby Love epitomises all that this is! Session singers often did these trackes, B & W originally planned it for Song For Europe and I believe offered to Showaddywaddy! In a similar vein was There's A Whole Lot Of Lovin. Anyway I could waffle all nite but I'll just say my fave Bickerton/Waddington one is Like A Butterfly - I have the 7". Yes you're spot on with the Suzi Q/Smokie similarities esp......If You Can't Give Me Love. I actually have the 7" that Chris Norman/Suzi Q did - Stumblin In! Tom Tom Turnaround was a gem ! Oh one more thing lol (!) Barry Blue wrote and produced a few gems for him & others! Blimey where did I pluck him from at the early hours! Chin Gin 4 Now!
@harrydonaldson19652 жыл бұрын
Hey Chris, thanks for the prompt reply too, looks like we're not a million miles apart on our music experiences. A bit of digging and you're right, Changesone bowie was spot on. On the Rubettes 'Sugar Baby Love' TOTP debut Alan Williams was supposed to have mimed it while later in the programme Paul Da Vinci sang 'You're Baby ain't you're Baby anymore' - who actually recorded the original release. Anyway, many years later on the State record label I came across a Gary Benson\Alan Clarke (hollies) release "Shadow in the Street" Guys n Dolls etc yes, got their records even to the extent of Dollar. I've even got the original Island singles of the Chinn\Chapman "Tom Tom Turnaround, Sister Jane, and Living next door to Alice" by New World. There were a few more but being 14 at the time pocket money was spent wisely - or luckily in my case. I pleasure to converse with you Chris, I'm sure you'll educate me in the blanks in my life. Cheers
@chrismarshall7232 жыл бұрын
@@harrydonaldson1965 Hi Harry, well you have some rare ones there with the Island songs! I really liked Dollop....sorry Dollar esp when they moved to Trevor Horn with the ultra catchy Mirror Mirror. Always thought David Van Day a bit of a knob though! Did u ever see the show Reborn In The USA? You mention The Hollies, I'm so glad u did! My absolute fave group of the 60s, their 3-part harmonies their trademark I went to their 60th anniversary tour in Birmingham recently. Ray Stiles ex Mud is their bass player! I thought about this after my late text last night (!) but Mitch Murray & Pete Callander wrote some very catchy tunes. Similar of course to Bickerton-Waddington they set up their record label Bus Stop and you with your excellent knowledge will know the home of Paper Lace who they wrote/produced for. I'm sure on that label was an Opportunity Knocks act The Brothers with Sing Me. 77 I'm sure.. great to chat to a fellow genuine music fan I bow to your knowledge of facts.. One last strange little ditty for you for tonite....I always seemed to like RAK songs/artists. An obscure one I have on 7" is a track called Promises Promises by Rags. It was an entry into that year (77) Song For Europe. I love it lol! We sent Mike Moran and Lyndsey De Paul through with the awfull Rock Bottom which in my opiniion was exremely fortunate to finish runner up to France! I'd just left 5th year in May 77 so revising for my O Levels! Right I'm sure I've waffled on too long for you ! Cheers 4 now - Chris.
