I think they should have focused the engineering efforts on the core functions of the unit itself and told marketing to take their voice command ideas to a toy manufacturer. Outside of novelty I don't think anyone is going to be using that in a professional setting.

Voice control is a great accessibility feature, for those technicians without arms. It's also neat that it doesn't recognize proper english accents, instead favoring those of us with a broken english. I'll take five, thanks!

Hi Steve, thanks for another great video. Do you have any incoming videos for a desoldering station? My Pace ST-125/SX-90 is not performing anymore, and I need something to upgrade to. I would be nice to find something that can suck solder from through-hole components with large ground planes. Thank you!

How often do you find yourself doing desoldering work? I do have a low cost option which is in my pile of stuff to review.
@thereverant52032 ай бұрын
@@sdgelectronics very often. One of my most common repairs is removing oxidized connectors from water damaged car ECUs, and its a pain to desolder 80 to 160 pins each time.

@@thereverant5203 the Metcal system I have works well, but you do need an external compressor. It delivers a lot of heat into large planes. I'm not sure of the competition though.

Would also be a lot better if it also only acknowledge the wake word with a "hey" and not the rest of it. It seems very annoying to have to wait for it to finish before giving it the command.

It's definitely too long, even a beep would have been fine.

Yeah, if they'd just reduced it to something short like "Hey" or "Yes?" it would be so much more expeditious. At least they didn't get the "Bluetooth device is connected" lady to record the voice. 😆

For this price its a bargain. I expected to se a $500 tag, but under $300 its a no brainer. Im sure someone will hack it and improve the voice commands, altough i dont see much use for them. Plus the long response is annoying, but I'm hooeful someone with more free time will "fix" that.

if this expensive device couldn't desolder at low temp without preheater in mass ground plane board, then i guess cheaper atten st862 + preheater can do the job.
@sdgelectronics2 ай бұрын
@@ampuh214 it's mostly true, a hot air station isn't going to be too effective at heating up an entire pcb so a preheater is essential. It does go up to 500C which is how many of the repair channels remove parts, but that's not the correct way to do it.
