1:42 FYI, that’s a Europlug, not Schuko. (Schuko is actually short for “Schutzkontakt”, or ‘protective contact’, referring to the PE contact. The Europlug is unearthed, and has thinner pins than Schuko.)

6:07 That charger is a knock-off Apple charger. Apple has used the same system of snap-on plugs and cords since introducing it in 2001. The plugs (which are officially called “duckheads”, no joke) and cords used to not be available separately, but are now orderable accessories. (Apple also sells the complete set of all duckheads as the World Travel Adapter Kit.) But you can also just slide a regular figure-8 (C8) power lead into it. It looks janky but is perfectly safe and reliable. In the real Apple chargers, the metal stud is the earth connection, used only on cords, not duck heads. (Smaller charger models use a plastic stud.) I wouldn’t count on the knockoff’s stud being connected to anything.

Hi SDG, I recently spent a lot of time watching your reviews to help pick out a new soldering station and hot air station (I went with Aixun T420D and Atten 862 hot air station) and noticed a lot of your newer videos aren't in your playlists. I think it would help others a lot if you could add more recent videos to their respective playlists when you have an opportunity. Thanks!

I wonder if a IEC-60320 C8 cabel (the figure 8/infinity connector) could fit into the power supply. That way you could still use it and don't have to have this big thing in a socket.

It works perfectly, I’ve used Apple chargers that way many, many times. The only exceptions are the comparatively rare polarized C8 plugs (where one side of the figure-8 is rectangular), and with some C8 plugs whose grip area is too thick because they added really fat grip ridges.

@@sdgelectronics here's another puzzler: the station is labeled with input: 9v - 15v. But the charger is labeled as only providing up to 3A at 15V (... or 4.8A at 20V to give the 96W rating). This is typical; pretty much all high-power usb-c chargers I've seen only provide more than 3A at 20V or greater. (The reason being that devices should prefer lower current and higher voltage, up to a point.) So how could it be getting 80W, at 15V? Maybe the supplied adapter will actually allow ~ 5A at 15V? (And some other high-power usb-c adapters will too?) Probably more strict/proper usb-c supplies will have issues with it.

@@ploxiln yeah that's a good point, it must be temporarily overloading that supply, though I think generally it's not designed to be run without the battery installed

I don't understand why the handle should be placed as shallow as possible in the cradle. You mentioned it prevents the heat from traveling back up the handle. Does heat obey the laws of reverse gravity?
@AndreaAustoni8 ай бұрын

@bobweiram63218 ай бұрын
@@AndreaAustoni Hot air rises to the top, not heat. The thermal conductivity of air is far less than the metal part of the iron itself, otherwise your hand would burn during use. Putting the iron at a shallow angle would make a marginal, if any, difference.

Because of the low cost of this and other similar units that don't have the reduced temp standby mode could it be that the materials used to construct the case and holder aren't suitable to be around high temps for extended periods? Turning the iron off is preferred over higher cost of materials when competing in the market.

Cant understand why aixun denied supporting T245 in this model. 80W power covers power delivery of most of C245 cartridges including massive tips as 908 or 939 in practice works 😮

245 requires 24v/5-6A , 210 and 115 run on 12v/ 1-5A. There's no way to boost a two pack 18650 to meet the power needs of 245. They could made 245 as "power connected only" option and provide a bigger 150w power brick.
@tookitogo8 ай бұрын
@@dukeiiigmail What makes you think it’s impossible? The high-current 18650s typically used in power tools are capable of 20-30A. At 7.4V, that’s around 150-220W. And as the original comment says: 80W covers most practical uses just fine, and even standard 18650s could handle that just fine. In either case, there certainly exist boost converters that could do it.

@@dukeiiigmail C245 in genuine JBC stations or Aixun T420(D) needs full power (full wave of AC 24V RMS) only for few seconds when it heating up. You can see many measurements in videos on this channel or at eevblog to confirm it. For examle in "coin test" massive genuine 908 tip provides no more 60...65W. Even GVM H3 pass this test.

I wonder how they come up with that kind of UI. Up-button scrolls down, o-button up and down-button is ok. Why they chose to no use up-arrow for up, down-arrow for down the the middle one for ok. There is no way to understand that. If you need portable use, usb-c powered devices and a powerpack are so nice. Pretty rare need though but at least you need no extra psu for that.

So they have the tech (in other stations) to detect the 3 types of cartridges but only support 2 and it's a special connector that isn't compatible with other Aixun Handles... Only a 2 cell LiPo so I'm guessing they are boosting the voltage (Power looses) to get the proper power in the cartridge too (all JBC tips being designed for 24v if i'm not mistaken) All of this is really weird and disappointing. I have a 420D station and it's lovely. Modified it quite a bit to fit my needs but the base station is solid so why not use the 420D controller with one less port and made for DC it doesn't make sense to me. (Of course it's more complicated than that but they already have a solid base to start with that's what I meant) Guess I'll have to modify one of these cheaper stations that take all 3 types to use a 6S Li Po and call it a day. Most of them use a switching PSU anyway so it's already DC
@dukeiiigmail8 ай бұрын
210 and 115 run on 12V, guess the 2 pack 18650 battery was boosted up to meet that. 245 runs on 24v which is too much and not supported. As a matter of fact you can run 245 with 12v, it only draws around 30w hence very slow.

No support for brass cleaner in the station. Battery powered devices like this should use external systems so users can opt for different sizes and quantities based on their needs. No sleep mode, no IEC mains supply. Seems very targeted to those playing with drone, UAVs,

I'm glad that AiXun is trying to build a brand, even if it's based on cloned JBC technology, but they could definitely improve the firmware. The arrow buttons here are likely a manufacturing error as the item photos show them pointing in opposite directions. This aspect needs QC attention. The pricing is weird as they want an extra 43USD for 2 extra tips. The marketing is also awful as the AE photos show that this station has "5G technology" for firmware updates and a "neural network control algorithm" for rapid heating. It's hard to stomach that level of stupidity and borders on fraud, even if it's actually just incompetently exuberant Chinese marketing. It also lists both WiFi and Bluetooth, but 1. there's no Bluetooth functions listed or needed, and 2. I have zero desire for my soldering station to be an IoT device connected to China ;). Over-the-air firmware updates are acceptable, I guess, but my experience suggests that these companies never improve their existing products, but instead invest all their effort into upcoming models. Existing customers seem meaningless to them except as potential buyers for their next model.
