When you have Stamkos one of the least effective 5x5 players in the entire league, having your 3 highest paid forwards shooting the same side, along with them all being in their 30’s and all being natural C’s, the red flags were always there, it’s a cautionary tale that just because something looks good on paper it’s not always a good idea.

yeah getting old sucks, but Tampa knew Stamkos was a ghost of his former self which is why they were kinda glad he left

The most infuriating thing about this as a Preds fan is that they do have a guy who should be a competent middle 6 center by now but they haven’t given him the minutes at the NHL level to develop properly. Juuso Pärssinen. I work at the arena and every single game day one season ticket holder or another is asking me why I think Bruno busted up that line of Vange-Pars-Novy and no one can come up with a valid reason. Through 4 games that line put up 3 goals, was playing like 12 minutes a night, and is like the only combo they’ve tried that hasn’t been scored on. But Bruno saw something he didn’t like and split it up. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Steve really felt he hit something with the button mashing analogy. Really drove it into the ground.

Preds fan here - I have no idea what is going on. The worst thing (other than Askarov) was letting Sherwood walk. He is playing great in Vancouver and was a great part of the team last year

It's crazy how the Predators desperately need a good puck possession center to play with aging #91, and even crazier how they bought that center out last year.

Nashville is good example of how making to many roster changes doesn't turn out well sometimes

Nah, it's more on betting on aging stars to keep up past performance forever.

Then there’s the leafs who don’t make roster changes expecting changes haha so the middle team is probably Tampa or Florida maybe Boston

@S.General the leafs do make roster changes just not significant ones when dubis signed Marner Nylander Mathews Taveres to those big money deals had 4 players making 40 million dollars leafs could only sign fringe players to support them.

Trotz is a coach, not a GM. He needs to be given the players to work with and struggles when he can shop for himself. Belichick is similar in this way. Trotz forgot to acquire centers, for one. He also didn't adapt to the modern game and focus on speed but instead past performance and experience (which coaches love). Examples: Stamkos & extending Saros rather than trading him and keeping Askarov

beginning of the Stamkos interview gives a whole new meaning to his Nickname Stammer....... But in all seriousness, he is very dejected and looks like he wants to say what he believes is wrong and is doing his best not say anything due to fact it will get him into trouble or make things possibly worse

On the Askarov thing, Trotz did a recent interview where he confirmed he was trying to get Annunen last year when he traded Trenin to the Avs at the deadline. What that tells me is that the Askarov decision had been made well before the Wedgewood situation even occurred. It just seems like Trotz was trying to hold on for the best deal possible and then Askarov hit the big red button to force the issue

From a Tampa fan, the crazy part is there’s still fans calling for JBB to be fired and he’s a fraud at every game. Yet every game the top line proves theure one of the best in the league and stamkos is well..

How do you even rebuild if you're the Preds? You've locked up Josi, Saros, Skjei, Stamkos, Marchessault, etc for years. Maybe before the summer moves, they could've done something, but now it's almost impossible.

The 4:30 mark of the clip about the Preds marks the beginning of discussion of a claim by Steve dangle of the lack of chemistry on that team. I can't think of a much better explanation for why the preds find themselves close to last in their own conference rather than more in the mix for a playoff spot.

"What's wrong with the Preds"? They have no idea what they're doing nor do they have any clue on how to develop their youth. Did anyone see Tomasino's sick, behind his back, pass to Malkin tonight after he broke up the Florida play? Just look how they treated this kid the last 2-3 yrs, (and their other up and coming young players) Tomer, 4 games in and he has 2 goals, both game winners, and an assist, and he is just getting warmed up (after being healthy scratched/played so little). See how Fabbro is doing? See how other players are doing away from the Preds? The list is long of players thriving once they get away from that mess in Nashville. Brunette and Trotz both need to go, but I'd say Brunette first as it's clear, since he passes his player info to Trotz, that he couldn't recognize raw talent even if he was slapped in the face with it. So happy for Tomasino. This is the best thing that has happened to this kid in a while. Just glad he got out when he did before Brunette effed him up even more. Signed: A former Preds fan.

Stamkos thought he'd be on a line w/ O'Reilly and Forsberg, I guess? Or he thought he'd be on a line with a competent center?

On Steve's point on trots going to odder somthing wrong with his credit card, I'm going to put a $2 dollar bet that trots trades to get Erik Carlson from Pittsburgh and Dubis get a 1st round pick out of it and there's not retention on the contract. Can you guys see that happening ?

Punch Imlach, Jack Adams, and Scotty Bowman are the only great Coach and GMs I can think of. Imlach should probably get the lead there, considering he did that for four Cup winners. Adams was a great Coach and GM, but his best successes as a GM came once he gave the coaching reins to Tommy Ivan in the late 40s.

Even though he didn’t win, I’d put Bryan Murray as at least a good coach and good GM.

As someone who dislikes the Maple Leafs, I'd say Pat Quinn was a heck of a coach/GM for the Leafs, back in the day. Sure he never won a cup, but his teams were consistently in the playoffs (usually winning in the first round).

Stamkos is a powerplay merchant. 5 on 5, he can't produce on his own and has lost some speed.

I'm saying this tongue in cheek, but if stammer is unhappy at the preda come to the leafs, put him on the 2nd line with Mitch amd JT, or the 1st with Matthews and Willie 😮
