I don't think the golden knights would even do marner for theodore straightup. Theodore had almost a point a game last year even though he was injured, and is a rightshot number 1-1.5 d. Marner is an arguably overpaid play driving high scoring winger with an NMC that the entire league knows is being shopped on an expiring deal. You are getting max 75 cents on the dollar, especially from a team like Vegas. Look at the return for Hanifin. Start there and move up because Marner is a better player, but don't move that far up
@somerandomguy83624 ай бұрын
As a Vegas fan all vegas/Marner trade proposals begin and end with we have no room to pay for Marchessault yet supposedly can fit in Marner, especially with the amount of depth we are about to lose in free agency. I'll be nice and say the trade package that Jessie presented is..... not desirable, We would not have a 3rd defensive pair or 4th line (3rd line might even be sus) and a ton of our top guys are old/injury prone (stone/pietro/eichels missed time/hertl who knows). This isn't even getting into Marners playoff inadequacy, I think when Marner gets traded it will be to some fringe playoff team that's trying to get over the hump like a Detroit. Someone is going to give Marchy 9 mil this offseason and it wont be vegas it doesn't fit the m.o. of the front office or sadly make sense. They will let him walk to resign 1 or 2 of stephenson/carrier/amadio and try and extend theo/logan thompson in July because as mentioned in the podcast theo/hague/kolesar are all UFA next season and so are both goalies they need to keep cap open to prepare for this not lock in 10+ for 8 years on another forward it just turns us into an older version of the leafs.

Ironically, if Keefe had benched Marner or Matthews when they weren't going, all the other guys would fall in line and step up. Happened in San Antonio with Coach Pop and Tim Duncan. He would get onto his best player/Hall of Famer. All the other players saw that Duncan wasn't immune.
@thewickedone26764 ай бұрын
Man, it's always funny to hear fans talk about trades. If you guys are expecting this type of a return when Mitch has the ultimate say on where he goes, you're going to be massively disappointed. First off, if Marner blocks a trade, the Leafs aren't going to sit him until December or play him on the 4th line. Give me a break. Second, why would any NHL team give up the farm to get a guy that you are so blatantly desperate to get rid of? You think other teams aren't going to know the spot that the Leafs are in? Of course they know, and they won't overpay. The teams that would overpay, Utah, Seattle, Winnipeg, LA, Marner's not waiving to go to those types of teams, in my opinion. The point Adam made should be the mentality of Leafs fans, if you trade Marner, the most important thing you'll get back is cap space to actively re-tool the team in the right way. I don't see a team that Mitch would be willing to waive for that will be sending you back anything massive. What I think happens is Mitch ends up blocking some trades from Utah and San Jose type teams, then the Leafs will be forced to decide whether to roll with him or to take less value on a trade from a team that Marner is willing to go to.

>Second, why would any NHL team give up the farm to get a guy that you are so blatantly desperate to get rid of? Every single team will gladly pay to get a Marner. Every single team. Just because the relationship isnt working here doesnt mean teams dont want that player. You pay the assets to ensure you actually get the player. What is he more likely to sign with? The team that can offer the 8th year, or every other team? Im banking on making the trade contingent on signing Marner. Anyway this is all fruitless they will be resigning Marner before the end of the summer.
@thewickedone26763 ай бұрын
@killzone866 my point isn't that a team wouldn't want a Marner, my point is that every team in the NHL knows the position the Leafs are in. They know the Leafs are desperate to get rid of him. Add to that, the fact that Mitch has to approve the destination, Leafs fans are going to be massively underwhelmed if a deal does happen to get done. I just don't see it happening.
@ShawnBlaque3 ай бұрын
@@thewickedone2676I don't think you understand how negotiations work. It doesn't matter that they know the Leafs want to trade him. In the end when it comes down to a few teams that Mitch waves for, those teams will have to out bid each other and Leafs get to pick the best package. It doesn't matter if he wants to leave or Leafs want him gone. The fact that other teams want him means he'll still be valuable. The only way it ends up like you're imagining is if he pulls a PLD or something and gives the Leafs literally only 1 team that he'll go to. Then of course there's no leverage.

To me, LA Kings seem like an obvious fit for Marner. They want & need high end players and they have plenty of depth but lack the high end. Jim Hillier is familiar with Marner too. Something like Moore and getting a high end D prospect in Brandt Clarke could be the way to go. Acquiring established high end defensemen are impossible. What happens if they lose their first 2-3 games of the season next year, you don't think Mitch gets a promotion? C'mon. So I mean, the viewer has a point. Mitch could just simply say he likes Toronto, doesn't want to waive his NMC, and wants to test free agency next year. That doesn't mean he WON'T waive it, but no one knows. There have been 0 credible reports about what Mitch's preference is. None. Zilch.

The Leafs might gain a lot more by trading Marner for a bunch of picks and prospects over vets and active players, the liberated cap space is what is important here and a classic hockey deal (player vs player) limits greatly the amount of potential dance partners. Freeing the 10.9 first opens up so many opportunities in free agency and/or for multiple smaller trades later on. Hell even if the Marner trade is underwhelming the Leafs might have the last laugh as long as most of the 10.9 is freed up.

Pretty sure, upper management/PR are the ones making decisions regarding on what players will be made available post game. Specifically to Mo, who I think is an incredible leader and probably the real captain of the team, I don't think he would ever refuse to media after a tough playoff, season-ending loss, if it were up to him. To me, he's one of the most accountable guys on the team and the heart and soul of this team (see Ridley Grieg incident and end of season brutally honest comments about how close they are to a cup). I'm pretty sure in almost each of the past season-ending losses, Mo is one of the guys doing post game media. I just don't know if it's fair to say these guys refused to do media after Game 7, if they never had control of making that choice in the first place.

Accountability starts with a paycheck! Make them accountable by punishing bad performances financially. No end of year bonuses for not making it out of round 1!!!! Can’t pay them multi millions and ask them to care. No it’s all ass backwards you get paid once your performance is analyzed for the whole season. Like seriously wtf.

If I’m Vegas I’m not move anything for Marner. Absolutely nothing… he makes my team worse

I have a bad feeling we're going to see a Courtnal for Kordic trade. An "old school" coach gets hired and demands a tough guy to toughen up the roster.

15:50 I find this clip funny because Joe Thornton is considered one of the greatest hockey players of all time, yet he never won a Stanley Cup. I would bet that he carried this mentality throughout his time playing. What a failure of a great regular season career.

Does Dubas make a play to attempt getting Marner to Pittsburgh?

The only thing I question about Berube is that he couldn’t squeeze any contribution out of Kyrou. I didn’t like his contract when it was signed, but I’m always looking to be wrong. Kyrou just sucked. And he wasn’t benched or moved down the lineup until the season was already pretty much lost.
