Why aren't Forest Lawn, Shepard, Southview, Radisson Heights, Manchester, Acadia, Fairview, Inglewood or Forest Heights on this list? All of those are worse than Douglasdale for crime and are officially classified as Southeast neighborhoods by the city yet aren't on the list. Is it some unofficial classification for neighborhoods?

I would concur with this assessment. For better or for worse, the East Calgary communities were omitted from the Inner City video, as well as their applicable quadrant video. Are you following official city quadrant boundaries, or CREB where the city is divided into octants?
@ChamberlainGroup Жыл бұрын
East and N.E. areas are a separate video coming out in a week or so. We went off of MLS zones as it breaks down the main 4 quadrants a bit more.

This is super misleading. I know people in new Brighton and copperfield communities looking to get out due to bad smell outside from time to time. The numbers in crimes are so similar!

A realtor told me 15+ years ago not to buy outside the ring road as eventually there will be a big jump in inner ring road and drop in outer ring road. Right now Airdrie Okotoks Strathmore all sell for almost the same as Calgary but in a down market they drop a lot. Look at Durham region in the GTA they are seeing double the price drops of Toronto and the further you move out the bigger the drops go. as prices come down the further you move out of the core the bigger the prices will drop.

There is some truth to that. As Calgary gets bigger this will be more true but historically communities around Stoney will decrease before ones that are inner city typically.

Man Seaton is a massive outlier for SE communities which are generally some of the safest in the city with no easy access from public transit, most of it looks like crime related theft but its still below the total crime rates of other communities in the SE.... I can only assume the per capita metric is heavily skewing the data against Seaton because it has so few people actually living in that community right now. Not sure if that would be the metric to go with when gauging these areas especially considering how new many of the deep SE communities are.

What are the internal causes for the relatively higher crime statistics in various neighborhoods? And if they're unsafe are people leaving, and what are the types of crimrs?
@chrismarko9957 Жыл бұрын
The three things I've noticed over the course of this video in no particular order: 1) Poverty 2) Located near a C train station or major commuter hub (like a mall) 3) Social Services (homeless shelters, soup kitchens) 4) Massive difference between downtown (~400 incidents per 100 residents downtown vs 4-10 in the 'burbs, it's a mind-blowing difference) I wonder how the incidents compare as well. In the burbs, I suspect the incidents are mostly petty theft, vandalism, with your domestic incidents. Downtown you're looking at more violent crime, robberies, and drug related incidents. If you've ever been a victim of a crime, you know they type of incident matters a lot.

Chris’s comments are great, and truth be told, much of Calgary is very safe. People aren’t leaving these areas because of safety.
@dovygoodguy1296 Жыл бұрын
@@ChamberlainGroup But since communities are graded by safety in your videos it would be interesting to know what unsafe issues the communities are each facing to get the grades they get.

Most of your videos are great and helpful but this one is a stinker. The difference between best 5 and worst 5 is 1 crime per hundred residents…? Perhaps you are stretching the data a little thin to create a story. There are less misleading ways to use crime data to help people select a neighborhood. For example, pull a broader selection of areas and compare apples to apples. Low resident counts in a commercial area explain Seton - and very different from many of the other communities nearby. Try again.
